Nasoya Tofu review- and you can get some free here as well!

There are those out there who are not adventurous eaters.
Perhaps a meat and potatoes family. Well, its time to start thinking outside the box and try some alternatives. How about some Asian food, and I don’t mean the greasy Chinese food down the street. I mean home cooked Asian food that has ingredients in it that you trust and know are good for you.

A good place to start is Tofu. Take a look at Nasoya Tofu U. Here they teach simple recipes and techniques for using tofu in both everyday dishes as well as dishes with an Asian flair. A good example of an everyday use of Tofu is the stuffed manicotti where instead of ricotta cheese you can use soft tofu. I can honestly say next time we go food shopping we will be trying this. Tofu is a misunderstood ingredient. Tofu is a food made of soy beans, which when cooked absorbs the flavor of whatever else it is cooked with. If making garlic stir fry it will accent and accentuate the garlic instead of adding a flavor to the bunch.

In general, there are two types of tofu- firm and soft. And guess what? Firm is of a thicker texture then soft, and is mostly used as a meat substitute, the soft can be used as a thickener, or as we saw before, a ricotta cheese substitute. šŸ™‚

These very broad terms are pretty much what kind of tofu you can find in your average supermarket, but if you are looking for a tofu to act as more of a meat substitute take a look at Fim Tofu Plus. This is sprouted tofu which has more protein and also fortified with vitamins B2, B6, B12, D and Calcium. This is the one I picked up today- my son is sprouting like a weed and all the vitamins I can put into him, I am going to! LOL

We used some of our Nosoya Tofu Plus tofu and made Tofu Pad Thai. This is a Thai dish with peanuts and noodles, which is a little bit spicy and quite delicious. The tofu is a great substitute for chicken in this dish.
Get creative and have fun!

Perricone skincare G!VEAWAY

So itā€™s pretty clear by now that I strongly dislike the winter nasty. Boots, skinny jeans, and chunky sweaters (as cute as they are) arenā€™t doing it for me and this dry gray scaly skin; itā€™s just not my thing.

In my efforts to ward off the dermis mangling stuff Iā€™m always looking for ways to salvage my skin, my beloved peels can only go so far, cause ya need some moisture and a lot of it! Problem with most creams and potions is that they are goopy and pore clogging so the pursuit for something that wonā€™t add to my issues is usually a long one.
Apparently Iā€™ve been living under a rock or something because when I came across Perricone MD I mentioned it to a friend and she was ā€œOh yeah! I use that stuff tooā€ and my sister apparently uses it too. So why havenā€™t I tried it? Guess I should come out from under that rock a time or two.

Dr. Perricone is regarded as the Father of the Inflammation Theory of Aging. His holistic approach to aging treats the inflammation that causes aging in three ways: through diet, nutriceutical supplements, and his award-winning line of skin care products and cosmeceuticals. Through his program this type of inflammation can be stopped, which slows down the skin’s aging process and even reverses existing damage. The effects of his program are not only visible externally but will enhance your life with better overall health and increased energyā€¦.

Woo Hoo! Sounds good so far! The doc had me at holistic, his blog delves into diet, supplements, and skincare regimens that are all complementary of each other. Makes sense that they would all be related in the battle of aging.

My sister, who is fabulous at a little more than forty years old, reiterated the claims that Perricone md cold plasma and high potency eye lift are the only items she usesā€¦..Adds to the interest, right? I think so.

I personally love the no foundation [Read more…]

Barefoot Books- Amazing Kids Stories- Get Yours Here!!!

Barefoot books is a great way to expose your children to different cultures. The way they do this is through classic tales and folk tales from cultures including Islamic and African. I had the pleasure of reviewing a few books recently, which cover a wide spectrum of themes, settings, and writer backgrounds.

First up is Winter Shadow which is the story of a little girl who finds and befriends a wolf cub. This story is written by Richard Knight, who was inspired by nature and includes nature as a predominant theme in all his writings. This book is a semi-chapter book. There are chapters but they are short, good for young readers looking to start getting into reading longer, more intricate stories.

Tales of Mystery and Magic is up next. This book is a collection of short stories from all over the globe all involving some darker, more mysterious tales. These stories include the Chilean “Two Little Elves”, the Scottish “Who Live in the Skull?” and the West African “Hunter’s Five Sons”. It’s sort of a tales from the Crypt UN edition, LOL- and not super scary, good for school aged kids.

The Wise Fool is a book of Islamic Fables. I love big books of fables and tall tales. These books are great because they usually have one element which is accessible to children, while the rest of the story spins in ways barely imaginable. This particular book does similar, has lots of tales and stories most will and do not know, including myself. What a great way to open our children’s eyes to a new culture, or teach them more about others around us and the culture they come from.

The final book is We’re Sailing Down the Nile: a Journey though Egypt. This books follows travelers down the Nile. I know you are surprised- please buy the book if you want to know how it ends, LOL. This book is packed with pages meant to provoke questions and curiosity out of children. As a bedtime story it doesn’t work quite so well, but as a story told during story time or in a mentally stimulating time of day, this is perfect.

All Barefoot books have beautiful detailed illustrations and pages, brightly colored and eye catching when appropriate or dark and mysterious when not. Plus? They educate, inspire, bring out curiosity, and help teach our kids to be better world citizens- and Americans at that. This is, after all, a melting pot/salad bowl of a country- lets help our kids learn as much as [Read more…]

Swiss Colony- Review and G!VEAWAY

The Holidays are here, and so are a whole lot of delicious treats in cute shapes. The question becomes- what is worth those hard to remove calories? Well, Swiss Colony makes that choice either easier or harder- depending on how you look at it.

Swiss Colony makes all kinds of wonderful goodies ranging from cheeses and meats to desserts. We had the pleasure of trying the Snowman truffles. These cute little guys aren’t decorations, but are desserts, and they have a shell of white fudge surrounding two delicate milk chocolate truffles. The snowmen are each hand decorated with slight differences when you look for them, but are all artfully well made as you can see. [Read more…]

Bialetti non-stick eco pan- Get Yours Here!

When you think of an non-stick eco friendly pan what comes to mind? Maybe an old pan plated in recycled fabric? Well no, actually it’s much more interesting than that, and a whole heck of a lot of more useful.
Bialetti has produced a new line of pots and pans called the Aeternum Collection. The key characteristic of these pans is this: nano-ceramics. These pans are coated in nano-ceramic coating on the interior, then an aluminum core and a high temperature silicon exterior. The nano-ceramic is very interesting. The coating is applied at a lower temperature then other non-stick coatings, less heat, less fire-less CO2. The material itself is PFQA free, PTFE free, and cadmium free. This collection has a bright red exterior from the high temp silicon and a clean white interior courtesy of the nano-ceramic.

Not only are these pans nice to look at in their package, but once you actually use them it is really neat to see a white cooking surface. I like the way you can get a light browning to food without over doing it. I also like how the surface of the pan is easy to clean. So far everything wipes right off it. As of yet, I have made over easy eggs, breakfast sausage, and a few different sauces. All of which cleaned off very easily. I was quite impressed, even the sauce and bubbles up and burns onto the rim of the pan, it didn’t even need the steel wool.
I definitely suggest these for anyone who cooks.

Here are a few more fun points-

  • Features nano-ceramic technology ā€“ it performs like nobodyā€™s business and is PFOA, PTFE and Cadmium free
  • Clean up is a *snap*. Itā€™s non-stick cooking without the non-stick coating
  • This is just like using a Teflon pan with the exception that itā€™s healthier AND longer lasting (no teflon coating means longer lifetime for the pan. This suckerā€™ll last you decades)
  • Itā€™s lightweight yet extremely durable. The silicone handle keeps things cool around your digits, while the aluminum core evenly distributes heat
  • At 10.25ā€³ in diameter, this generously sized pan prepares dishes for 2-4 people (more if itā€™s a side dish). Itā€™s a popular and versatile size and one youā€™ll reach for every day
  • Comes standard with a 5-year manufacturers warranty against defects. Bialetti is a recognized leader in quality (not to mention it features clean Italian lines and design)
  • See [Read more…]
