Thomas & Friends Crane & Cargo Figure 8 Set Review and Contest!

My little boy is SUCH a fan of all things train-related.  They are easily some of his favorite toys.  He is not unique in this, I think most boys, and many girls as well, in the 2-6 year old age range are just super-into trains.  And Thomas?  Who can not love Thomas?  He may be the most well known of all the children’s trains, and certainly one of the most collected.  I don’t think I know a single boy who doesn’t have at least one Thomas the Tank Engine toy, of one sort or another.

Thomas is kind of like potato chips- you can’t have just one!  Thomas has so many friends, fun playsets, and accessories, that if your son is like mine, it is hard to keep up with what the latest Thomas toy is!
So let me help you out a little bit, LOL.  This is the new Thomas & Friends Crane & Cargo Figure 8 Set!
This playset has wooden tracks, and will fit with all your other Thomas sets.
Little engineers will admire this unique and diverse Wooden Railway Crane and Cargo Figure 8 Set from Thomas & Friends. Thomas can use the crane to pick up and drop off cargo at his favorite destinations.”
The Thomas & Friends Crane and Cargo Figure 8 Set comes with 20 pieces to make the set photoed below, and includes:

Back To School! Win a great outdoor explorer kit from Learning Resourcs

It’s August, so you know what that means!  Yes, it’s hot, LOL.  I can think of two things that August brings- back to school preparations, and BUGS!  Buggies, buggies, everywhere.  While this is super-lame when the mosquito come out, it’s great for grabbing a magnifying glass and mason jar and going on a bug hunt!  You can even identify your finds with a bug-book before letting them go again.
I recently had the opportunity to check out a great product that puts a fun, new modern twist on this classic summer pastime- the Big View Bug Jars by Learning Resources.

“It is a bug jar and magnifying glass all in one!  They come in a box with 6 containers, each a different colored ladybug that spreads its wings to show you the bug within at a magnified view.
Adorable jars feature ladybug wings that open to invite little learners to investigate insects. “

  • Supports scientific observations with a 3.5x magnifying lens, hidden under the bug’s wings
  • Engages even those children who shy away from bugs, thanks to cute (and secure) design
  • Features screw-on cap and air vents for live-critter observation
  • Durable plastic jars measure 4.5″H x 3.5″ in diameter
  • Grades PreK+

Little Man had so much fun with these, and they are sure to be a hit in my classroom for “Bug Week”.  Back to School is for teachers, too!  We need to be ready for our classes, and projects, activities, and all that goes with it.
You can also use them with your kiddos for projects, identification, show and tell, or just exploring the great outdoors.  Any child from Pre-School age on up to about 9 or 10 would have not only a fun time, but also an educational one with these fun Big View Bug Jars!

Make exploring even cooler with the Early Science Explorer set, with a magnifying glass and washable, plastic, easy grip tweezers-  great for picking up all those things momma won’t let him touch!  And for helping to grab those wiggly bugs, sticks, his dad’s finger when he is not looking….LOL
Little Man LOVED the set, and carried them all around, to school, camping, to the park- you name it!

“Encourage young scientists to take their investigations further with these perfectly sized tools!”

  • Includes durable magnifier with built-in stand for hands-free observation, 4.5x magnification, and 4 1/2″ diameter viewing area
  • Exercises fine motor skills as children use the easy-grip tweezers—depressions on the colorful 6″ tweezers guide small hands into the proper pincer position
  • Washable plastic; colors may vary
  • Grades PreK+

Win Kids DVD- Timmy Time: Picture Day!

Timmy Time, Picture Day!  is the cutest little DVD, and it came at an appropriate time- because we are doing summer photos at the Pre-K!  I have discovered that I really like Shaun the Sheep and all his buddies- I had never watched it before, but since seeing a few of these DVDs, I am a fan, and the kids all really like them!
I like that the show is appropriate for kids, not over the top, or with characters behaving badly or talking back to adults.  No bad messages or poor role models.  I really dislike shows that give kids the wrong idea, and show them all the wrongs ways to act and behave.  Perfect for the Pre-K and kids of that age- because there are great social skills to be learned, just like Timmy is learning them at his PreSchool.

HIT Entertainment, makers of such wholesome shows as Barney, Roary the Racecar, and Angelina Ballerina, have a wide variety of great DVDs that your family will love.  We loved Timmy Time, and your children and family will (in my opinion!) have a great time watching as well.  If you have never heard of this fun show before, give it a whirl!

Timmy Time has a great website, where you can play games, do activities, watch clips, and so much more.  Timmy is going to a PreSchool, where he has to learn about sharing, feelings, and getting along.  All things that our kids will need to learn- so it’s fun to learn along with Timmy!
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The fun and learning never stops when Timmy, of new preschool series Timmy Time, is ready for his close-up! The all-new Timmy Time: Picture Day! comes to DVD June 28, 2011 from Lionsgate and HIT Entertainment just in time for back to school. Whether struggling to keep clean for class photo day, celebrating the color blue, jamming with the school band or just playing with his pals, you know you’re in for a barnyard-sized bunch of hilarious antics and adventures with Timmy!

With slapstick humor yet not a single line of dialogue, Timmy Time follows a day in the life of a preschooler where they learn lessons about friendship and trial and error to which every young child can relateTimmy Time airs weekdays (5:30 a.m. and 7:15 a.m. ET/PT) on Disney Channel’s Disney Junior programming block for kids ages 2-7 and their families, airing in more than 99 million U.S. homes.

DVD SYNOPSIS:
Come along for a picture perfect day of fun with your preschool pal Timmy! The Oscar®-winning creators of “Wallace and Gromit™” and “Shaun the Sheep™” will make you smile in these fun-loving adventures featuring Timmy and his nursery friends. From good, clean fun during school photo day to drumming up music lessons, these wonderful stories filled with surprises will have you laughing in a flash. So snap up these five adorable tales with a big focus on fun!

  • “Snapshot Timmy” – It’s time for the class photo, but Timmy just cannot keep himself clean – jumping into puddles, kicking muddy footballs and getting splattered by jam sandwiches!

  • “Timmy Wants The Blues” – Timmy is having a blue day, collecting all the blue toys, blue cushions and blue paint. But when it comes to painting a picture, he quickly discovers he’s going to need more than just one color!

  • “Timmy Wants The Drum” – During a music lesson, Timmy decides he wants to play the drum! But when it is given to Yabba, and a triangle to Timmy, he goes about trying to get the drum for himself…

  • “Timmy’s Puppet” – On his way to preschool, Timmy’s homemade sock-puppet falls out of his backpack. Poor Timmy doesn’t realize until he arrives to see everyone playing with their own puppets! Crestfallen, he begins an unsuccessful search until Harriet offers to help him make a new one.

  • “Timmy The Builder” – Following Otus’s example, the class begin building dens for themselves. Otus offers to help Timmy with his, but Timmy’s pride gets the better of him – he can do this on his own! However, the little lamb soon has to admit that two heads may be better than one…

Have a Howling Good Time at @GreatWolfLodge

This was perhaps my favorite spot that we visited, and I will tell you why. Everything was in one place- you didn’t have to go anywhere else once you got to your hotel- because your hotel was also your waterpark, restaurant, activity center (even a computer area for kids) and and more. And all I had to do was park the car!
Great Wolf Lodge in Sandusky, Ohio(Ohio’s first Great Wolf Lodge) is a great place to spend time with family, and would be a fantastic spot for a family reunion. Their huge indoor waterpark is reserved for guests only, thus guaranteeing that you will never have to wait on a long line. There is also an outdoor pool and waterpark area, open seasonally.

Once you arrive, you are greeted and checked in by friendly staff, and you make your way to your room. We stayed in one of the “themed” rooms, the “Wolf Den”. My children loved it, and I have to say so did dad and myself. It was really adorable, with a sectioned off “kid cave”, complete with bunk beds inside. There is a video came console and TV set in there as well, which you can pay to have access to.
The kids loved to play in there, and that it made them feel like they had their “own room”. I loved that it gave me some privacy, and that I could have some small degree of separation from them, while not really being separate from them at all. (Come on, we have all been on family vacations- the kids go wild, and sometimes it’s nice to be able to have a little “grown up space”. How many times can one really hear Mom? Mom? Mom! Mom?) I can still see them and hear them- there is no door- but they can go into the “cave” and play, and I can re-pack a suitcase or find a missing toothbrush in relative peace, LOL. The room was very large, very clean, had an excellent view of the outdoor waterpark- and even a little balcony you can sit on, or dry your wet bathing suits 🙂

I love the whole “Lodge” look and feel of the hotel- like place in the woods, but modern and with technology and conveniences and comforts, LOL. There were multiple restaurants, as well as a little snack/dessert shop, where you can grab ice cream, fudge, pastries- you know, all the “good” vacation foods! 🙂
Little Man and I deserted daddy and Kamikaze one morning (we were awake, they were not! hehe) and went to Lumber Jack’s Cook Shanty, where they served a family style breakfast at our table. This means that they brought food to our table- pre-fix food, not food that we choose or order- and you can have as much as you’d like. The food was very good, I have to say! It was very pricey, though- for an adult? 12$ plus tax and if you order a beverage, that is additional as well. For Little Man, since he was only 3, I only had to pay $3.49 for his cup of chocolate milk. (Nope, that was not a typo!) I was kind of shocked at the bill. But, it is what it is. At least the food was good- and Little Man can really pack away his breakfast! (I’m sure you have seen my posts on his love of breakfast, LOL- the boy is addicted! No cereal for him, no sir!) He ate more then his body weight in bacon and french toast sticks, I think. I was allowed to have ONE french toast stick- it was better then the ones I make 🙁
Poor me! It was crunchy, but soft inside. I can never get mine crunchy, unless I burn it, LOL. Everything was very [Read more…]

New Shineys from @ThinkGeek !

Lookie here- ThinkGeek has new stuff!!  Check it- out its a Replica Phaser from the J J Abrams Star Trek movie.  According to the hubby, its got a good weight to it.  According to me and my little, it looks like a nifty laser and is perfect for pointing around the room and making laser noises.  The husband agrees with this comment as well.  But, my dad has laid claim to it- Little gave it up to grampie willingly.  He is a big, big fan of Star Trek.  Now onto more great stuff.

This one is a personal favorite of mine.  Don’t you always have this major, huge-huge problem, where you think “I can’t snuggle this breakfast meat, it’s far too greasy, and not nearly large enough not to lose in tossing and turning whilst in bed!”  In comes ThinkGeek again with My First Bacon.  Cute enough to replace that old teddy bear, yet edgy enough to make even the coldest adult chuckle.  JUST KIDDING- do not attempt to remove child’s teddy bear!  LOL
“Baconie” as he is called in our house (yes, named by Little)  is 19 inches tall and 7 inches wide, a bit bigger then the size of a bread box, just big enough to hug.  However- upon hugging Baconie you get a surprise!  He gives lets you know, “I’m  Bacon”.  In a very pleasant voice.  This is meant to help children be proud of who they are, lol- can you tell it is super educational?  LOL, ok, but it’s HILARIOUS!
“Squeeze him and he says, “I’m Bacon!”. No matter what the situation, he says, “I’m Bacon!” This reminds children that no matter what happens in life, they should be true to themselves and always be proud of who they are. Which of course, means bacon lovers. What child on this planet wouldn’t want to befriend a piece of mostly meat held together with fat and love? And don’t just think about the kids, adults enjoy My First Bacon just as much as the kids do. Sometimes a little too much.”

Bacon that travels well!  LOL

You can also see Bacon in the Lancaster posts, right here on Have Sippy Will Travel!
He is a well-traveled breakfast meat……

Next up is the Geeky Twin Bed sheet set these are really awesome.  They have a cartoon-y fun feel even though the pattern involves aliens, zombies, mad scientists as well as ninjas, robots, and even bacon!  Little Man loves the sheets and has been ‘beggin for them to be put on his bed.  He really likes the fact that Baconie is features on the sheets and there are ninjas on his pillow.  What I like a lot about the sheet set is as first glance it looks like a regular plain pattern, but upon closer inspection once again ThinkGeek gets everyone smiling.

PS As of right now ThinkGeek is having a MASSIVE sale, everything is on sale and the discount is significant. The Geeky Bed Sheets have been marked down by 67% to the price of $9.99, pretty spiffy is you ask me.
You can Follow ThinkGeek on Facebook and Twitter, to stay in touch.
Enjoy all, and happy shopping!    🙂

Win Wisharoo Park, an educational and adorable prize pack!

My son has a new favorite DVD- Wisharoo Park!  If you have not heard of it (or if you have, but have not watched it yet), let me tell you how very much he enjoys it, and why I think you will, too.  It became a fast favorite, and he carried around the little pamphlet that it came with for days.  I love it’s message, and the characters are lovable, sweet, and adorable.  I hope they come out with stuffed animals soon, my son would just love them, LOL.  Of course, I had to bring it to the Pre-School to see what the kids had to say.  The ages of the kids here are 2.5 to 6.  Wisharoo Park was create for children aged 3 to 6, so the majority of the kids fall right within that demographic.

Originally airing as a TV series on PBS, Wisharoo Park has now launched as a multi-media program, with a website, Facebook Page, and DVDs.  This technology based program and curriculum promotes positive self image and self esteem, and helps children feel good about themselves while discovering and understanding their personal strengths.
Wisharoo Park’s online community updates weekly with new activities, videos, games, and a whole lot more.  There you can also interact with the aforementioned adorable buddies of Wisharoo Park.  You can also look forward to an iPad app which is designed to complement your child’s learning and preschool curriculum, coming soon.

I am so excited to see what else Wisharoo Park comes up with, because I know that I love it, my kids love it, and the kids in the preschool love it as well.  It is fun to use as a “break” or on a rainy day (or for wintry snowy days) to break up time when we can’t get outside and play.  While we often do yoga, kids dance and exercise videos, and other physical activity- it’s nice to have options that are educational, and are great for social and personal learning as well.  For me- whatever gives kids a love of learning, and confidence in themselves (which is really half the battle, isn’t it?) is a great choice and a good buy.  I hope you check out Wisharoo Park soon, it is super-Have Sippy recommended!
