Melissa and Doug Sand Toys- Updates!

I took Little Man to the local lake this past weekend, and I wanted to show you some more photos of the awesome Melissa and Doug Sand Toys that I was telling you all about!
Since I posted the contest the day after we got the toys, the only photos I had for you were in his sandbox.  But the lake’s beach REALLY shows them off- and I know you want to see what they can do- and lets daddy play, too!  LOL

He wants his toy back- can you tell?  LOL  He will share- just not the crab one!  HA!

Can you tell he loves his new toys?  He even wants to take them with us on our 2 week, 7 state road trip this summer!  (We are really excited for that, too!)
These are really, really nice toys.  The best sand toys we have ever had, by far and away.
The contest is still open, so I hope you head on by and enter.  With fab toys like these, you better act quick!  You want to use them all summer long!  (And if you don’t win, you can always pick some up, anyway.)
Melissa and Doug Sand Toys Mega Prize Pack ends July 9
Good luck!

Get Fit America for Kids LIVE Contest- Win the DVD

I love this DVD for the kids at the Pre-K and in my own home- it’s great to have a physical activity to do on rainy days, in the winter, and just to relax and unwind together.  Because sometimes?  I just don’t want to go down the slide!  LOL  I have used this DVD at least weekly since I got it, and it has been a “go to” for me at the Pre-School.  Can I tell you?  When there is 20+ kids that need to go outside and can’t, this is a real saving grace for me!

Kids can learn some great heath and fitness ideas from this DVD, get on the path to staying active and healthy, and start out on the right foot- being active- or for those kids who need some motivation?  They can do so with the caring guidance of Mom/Dad and the instructor Scott Cole.   And you can learn with your child- this is a great opportunity for a  family activity, so join in!
My kids and class are aged 2.5 – 7, and only the 2 year olds were unable to follow.  But they had fun trying, and I think it is a great example for them to see.  Plus, they will learn the “moves” and exercises in time- plus it is a great way to start them out on the right foot- by watching older siblings, and mom and dad!  (Plus- Scott makes it fun- so your kids won’t dislike doing this!)
Get Fit America for Kids LIVE features active school assemblies with children of all ages (K-2nd, 3rd-5th, and 6th-8th) joyfully participating in Scott’s proven program of Yoga, Tai Chi, Cardio, Strength, Partnered Trust-Building, and Meditation, along with valuable educational tips and insights for each age group on HOW to motivate, teach, and MOVE children with mind/body exercise.

NOTE: Get Fit America for Kids LIVE DVD is an educational tool for adults, and the NAPPA-AWARD-Winning Get Fit America for Kids Workout DVD is designed for kids to use as a workout. Together, the Get Fit America for Kids Program is a mindful solution to help prevent ADHD, improve focus, restore social skills, and inspire overall health and vitality for children of all ages, while educating adults on HOW TO implement mindful exercise into schools, fitness centers, recreational facilities, and more!!!

“Get Fit America for Kids is designed for ALL children. It is non-competitive, joyful, mindful, and FUN. See for yourself, and let’s all work to keep America’s children happy, healthy, creative, and conscious.”—Scott Cole

Get Fit America for Kids: Inspiring Conscious Happy Active Children

Get Fit America for Kids: Inspiring Conscious Happy Active Children

By Scott Cole

I have been working with children since 1986, and in those early years I worked
with suicide prevention teens in the Dallas area—to this date the toughest audience
in my career. I mention this because sometimes adults feel that a child may just
be “lost” and that what we are doing for them is perhaps not “breaking through” and
never will.

Believe me, that is a common feeling to have, and certainly faced with what we
see in America today—children who are morbidly obese, diabetic, medicated, and
experiencing ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), it is no wonder that
adults and parents feel frustrated, which seems to be pushing us farther from what
we need to be doing—and that is reversing this ugly sad uninspired trend of cutting
time and funds for music, art, and physical education.

I can share unequivocally that when given the chance to move, express, and learn
something new and different like Yoga and Tai Chi, children respond, not always
when and how you want them to, but trust me, the seeds are planted and these
mindful movement programs make a huge difference. By the end of my term with
the suicide prevention teens, I remember one girl coming up to me, hugging me
crying, “Don’t leave, I love it when you come see us.” I never forgot that.

Let us consider what are children are NOT getting:

1) Healthy, organic, soil-grown food that for the most part could prevent adult-
onset diabetes and obesity.

2) Movement in all forms: Dance, Yoga, Tai Chi, Physical Education and PLAY
every day. Children NEED to breathe, move, express, scream, and ultimately
experience healthy quiet time.

3) Nature Experience: Outdoors, or certainly learning about Nature
through “field trips” as we used to call them.

4) Healthy levels of TOUCH, both from adults and their peers. Activities that
involve touch and physical/social communication are needed now more than
ever as children bury their heads in video games, computers, cell phones,
instead of looking into the eyes of their friends and touching each other in
healthy play or activity.

5) Support at home and in school: The United States is #36 on the longevity list
worldwide (tied with Cuba according to the United Nations list), and is the
most obese nation on Earth. This translates into adults who have the same
issues in charge of making decisions to prevent the current generation from

having the problems we have.

America’s current in-home and educational landscape isn’t coming close to any
viable solution until concerned adults (WE) take charge of it at ALL levels.

Let us consider addressing what children today NEED:

1) First off, we need to make it MANDATORY that organic REAL food is served
in schools, and have the children take an active part in learning about food,
crops, and conscious farming. No more corn subsidized fructose corn syrup in
drinks and fruit cocktails, no more packaged nutrient-less slop, no more low-
quality after-thought beef and chicken fingers, and all soda machines should be
eliminated. Not the most popular decision I know, but AMERICA IS ADDICTED
to this “STUFF” that isn’t real food, and our bodies are in rebellion. If children
had normal levels of blood sugar, and are not doctored up by medication or
addictive fast-food and sugars, ADHD would be reduced and we would start to
see healthy alert, active children re-emerging. The problem arises in budget and
corporations that bid for these contracts, promising more for less dollars, and
inevitably it is about profit, not about providing great food for our kids.

If anything should be subsidized by the government, it should be food
for our public schools, but organized by a non-corporate committee of
nutritionists, parents, organic farmers, and educators.

2) Next, we need to implement all forms of movement and PE in schools: Yoga,
Tai Chi, Sports, Kickball, and Creative Play. We just need to get our kids moving
and playing again! Whoever decided that eliminating PE would make our
children “study more” has never dealt with children. Once children play, emote,
and express, they are more likely to actually WANT to sit down and read a book,
study, or be quiet.

3) Children need to learn more about their surroundings, from farming to crops
to geography to nature. Whenever I do the Get Fit America in-school assemblies,
I teach barefoot, and if allowed by the school, the children are allowed to take
their shoes off too. This ALONE is a big adventure that gets the children excited
to play and learn. It still amazes me that something so natural and simple is not
the norm anymore. We talk about feeling the earth, listening to and becoming
aware of Nature, and how our bodies are designed to touch and feel through the
feet and hands, all incorporated with the movement and exercise.

4) Touch is vital for any person. Touch deprivation can contribute to depression,
loneliness, and anti-social behavior that can manifest in a lifetime of discomfort
around others. After I have the children moving for awhile in the school
assemblies, I then introduce a Partnered section of the program where the
children get to touch, do mirrored-image movement, and learn to stretch and

trust each other. I tell them, “If you let go of your partner you are letting go of
yourself.” Most of them get the lesson.

5) Adults need to do their part and understand that even if we don’t get the
lessons of healthy living, it is VITAL for us to make choices that will influence our
children for the better.

American obesity is an addiction, and adult onset diabetes is preventable, so
unless we want to watch people age, become medically dependent, become
lethargic, depressed, and inactive, then we need to turn this big ship around and
get back on course to dock in an environment that will have clean pure water,
organic healthy food, mindful exercise and creative encouragement as standard
fuel for a healthy life.

Parents, teachers, educators, and concerned adults need to play an active part in
each community, as part of an expressive society that both honors and cherishes
our children enough to give them the tools to become the healthiest, most
mindful, articulate, compassionate generation ever.

Win Playmobil Playset

Playmobil is an awesome brand if you like to have fun with easy, ready made sets, that come in all sorts of varieties so that there is something for everyone.  Oh- that has to be pretty much every single person on the planet, right?  SO, it’s just awesome!
I love playsets– they are already ready, with everything that you need to get down and play.  No endless shopping trips for each figure, each accessory.  If you want to build a HUGE playset, that’s fine too- because you can add them on and make a metropolis of playsets in the same theme.  Good news?  They are each their own set, so you can add or not.  You can add all or add just one- you can do whatever you want.  It’s just easy!

They are good for travel and take-along as well, since they come in sets.  We put this cute  4843Treasure Hunter´s Camp with Giant Snake  into a little backpack, and along it comes to grandma’s!  Something else I love?  When you are on the site, and looking at a set- it gives you others that are similar or are part of the same theme on the side.  I find that helpful.  This one reminds me of Indiana Jones- check out the line of toys that are themed with it- they really do make you want to crack a bullwhip, LOL.  I like that they also included a girl figure- I dislike it when they make all the figures boys, give the girls something, too!  🙂
Little Man liked the giant snake so much that we used it as a jumping board to teach him about snakes, frogs, and other creepy crawlies.  This led to a fun morning at the library!  He now knows that not all snakes have rattles, LOL, and that they lay eggs.  It’s a good start for a 3 year old!
I also took out books of places that have “ruins” (temples, Mayan and Greek sites, etc) and showed him places that used to be thriving, where currently people explore and dig for history.  He’s a little young, so I kept if brief- a few sentences and mostly photos- but I hope it was a building block for both a love of history (like his momma!) and a love of travel.

One of you will win this same set!

Happy Father’s Day From Pocoyo!

Melissa and Doug Beach Toys Prize Pack Contest

Melissa and Doug are known for their quality toys.  I know that it is one of the brands that we have all over my house.  Not that I am a big “Brand” shopper, but when you know something is great, and has yet to let you down, I guess you just kind of stick with it!
When I think of Melissa and Doug, I always think quality toys.  But I also thing “wooden toys” and “classic toys”.  These new sand toys are something different, and though they are definitely quality peices, are not what I expected!  I was pleasantly surprised and happy to see this new line, called “Sunny Patch“.  (How cute are they, anyway?)

I think we as parents have all had our share of sand toys that just didn’t hold up- some don’t even make it a summer!
They crack, they break, they get warped- even though they are usually inexpensive, I have come to find that it just isn’t worth the price.  If I have to replace his toys every year, is it really a bargain?   No, not really.  And it’s really bad for the planet, wasteful!  Ecologically irresponsible, even if you do recycle them after they break.  Why not just go with better quality in the first place?  Especially when the price difference isn’t even that big.

Little Man had fun playing in his sandbox with the new Sunny Patch sand toys, too- look how much he is enjoying himself  🙂
He really liked the turtle sifter, and the little “whisk” toy a lot- and really, where else can you find a sand whisk?  Haha.  It may seem a little strange to see a sand baking set- you do want to explain to the kids NOT to eat the sand- but once you do, and they understand that, they will have a really great time playing “Little Chef” and baking you sand-cakes, sand-pies, and I even got sand-ice-cream and sand-soup.  (Aren’t I a lucky girl???)

Little has only had these toys for 1 day and 2 nights, but since it is summer, I wanted to get this up for you right away!  If these toys hold up anywhere as well as our other Melissa and Doug toys (and I am a Pre-School teacher, so you can bet I have TONS of them, and you can also bet they get used and abused!)  these will be toys you will not have to replace.  Heck, you may even be able to give them away when your kids no longer play in the sand (I know!  Don’t think about it!  They will just stay little!!!)   All I know is that I have never, ever had any issue or problem with any Melissa and Doug toy, puzzle, or set that I have ever owned or used.  Again- there are many of them here!  So I say with confidence that I think these will hold up just as well.  The plastic is thicker, they don’t have any of those annoying little areas for water to get stuck into and mold over, and they are just better made.  And?  Really cute and unique.  Sand cupcakes– so adorable!

One of you will also have the chance to win the same set that I have reviewed for you here.

Win Boon Rubber Ducks! (BPA Free!)

Hello, and welcome to odd duck park!

Please refrain from feeding the ducks!  They sure  don’t look like your average duck.  But they are the same-ish shape as your average rubber duck, but they have wonderful patterns and crazy colors to help them blend into a psychedelic poster from the 60’s, which is their natural habitat.  🙂
They also have a few different shapes- because beautiful ducks come in all shapes and sizes, don’t they?  LOL.
Also, unlike other rubber ducks these ducks are BpA and PVC free.  Great idea for something that will most likely get gnawed on by your little ones.  Less chemicals are always a good thing.  Speaking of gnawing have you ever looked a rubber ducky and saw some weird gross stuff growing in it right near that little hole in it ‘s bottom?  It’s called black mold, and I WILL NOT let Little Man bring those sorts of toys into his tub.  GROSSSSSS.  These Odd Ducks can’t get it, they are sealed.  No water in, no nasty mold in. No needing showers after bathes.  These ducks are favorite of Little Man.  Rubber ducks are his weakness! He will even play with them outside the bathtub.  Nothing like some odd duck-Iron Man crime fighting adventures.

Little playing with them out of the tub- told you!  Hehe

Odd Ducks, ready for tubby-time action!

A bit more info on the Odd Ducks-
Not Your Average Rubber Ducky. Kids are all different shapes and sizes, shouldn’t rubber ducks come that way too? Meet Slim, Bob, Jane and Squish. We’re not trying to encourage a rubber ducky smackdown, but Odd Ducks are PVC-free, unlike those other mucky ducks. And ours do not hold water, so they won’t grow that black mold that kids always try to suck out.
One of my lucky winners will win Odd Ducks, made by Boon!
