(Disclosed to you- this is a really fun and funny product- it makes me giggle my pants off, and my son ADORES it, has been begging me to give him one…for real, this makes me laugh my head off, and it’s just too fun. OK, back to the review!)

Teacarina and Ocarina- Daddy’s take

Have you ever heard of an ocarina? How about a teacarina? Well today you are going to learn a bit about what an ocarina is and the big guy who likes them so much.

The ocarina is a wind instrument much like a flute only shaped more like a sweet potato to give it a unique sound. They are mostly in the shape of animals and birds. They have been around for thousands of years as early as 5000 BC in India. Fast forward a few thousand years of progress to 1527. At this time a group of Aztec dancers and musicians performed using the Ocarina in Charles V court. This performance was well received and the group then performed all around Europe.

In Rome a baker saw this performance and started to make them as a novelty toy. Then in the 19th century a musician by the name of Guiseppe Donati reshaped the ocarina into its current form thus giving it accurate pitch and an extended range of notes. Fast forward a few hundred years to the 1990’s and the release of the Legend of Zelda, in this classic video game the hero Link uses and Ocarina to call upon the wind in his travel, solving puzzles and adventuring about. This brings about a new interest int he instrument and brings us to current times. For a more detailed look at its history look here.

We had the pleasure of trying out STL Ocarina’s advanced Ocarina, Nightingale. This ocarina is a bit larger then the standard but has 12 holes for more control [Read more…]

Isotoner Gloves- SmarTouch for your iPhones and Pads- review and C0NTEST

What to do in cold weather when you need to send that text with your touch screen phone? Go without the text or shiver yourself to an incomprehensible mess of spelling mistakes and punctuation finalized with a push of the cancel button. Wouldn’t it be nice if a company who made gloves, possibly Isotoner, made gloves that worked on touch screens? How about making them really warm, functional and practical?
All these things can be included in one pair of gloves and I have them. Ha ha! (It’s OK- you can, too! LOL)

They are the new smarTouch

John Deere Roll and Go Flashlight- W!N Yours Here!

The new John Deere product line from Learning Curve is rolling into stores! A fun new item for campouts or just fun around the house is the John Deere Roll and Go Flashlight. Shaped like a John Deere tractor–and featuring free-rolling wheels–the Roll ‘n Go Flashlight offers real light and features tractor sounds when the light is triggered. Auto shut-off features saves batteries! Requires three AAA batteries, included
My son really enjoys playing with this, and it will be fun for summer camping. The rolling flashlight makes it like a REAL car for him, so of course it is challenging to make him turn the flashlight OFF, lol. It will also be fun on Halloween and other dark occasions, like those night time borrowing sugar from the neighbors with mommy, haha.
With Little Man thinking he is a farmer, this is a big hit. He also likes to make the tractor visit his animals down on the farm, but the best farmer we have- besides little, of course? Micky Mouse. Don’t ask.
You can pick one up at Target and Toys R Us for $12.99, or you can win one here!

KinderGlo- Your Night Time Solution! Review and G!VEAWAY

As the mommy of a 4 year old, anything that makes the night less scary is a good thing. Of course, anything that makes naptime and bedtime any easier is a good thing, too- LOL. As moms, we all know that bedtime can be challenging. While my son can have his fears calmed with his favorite stuffed monsters, he still has fears of the dark. We got him a cow nightlight that wears a nightshirt and hat that he liked a lot, and it goes on anytime the room is dark.

But he still is scared. Then we found KinderGlo, quite by accident. He just loves the cute little animal, and it really fits with his room as well. Animals protect children from monsters and dark things, don’t you know that? Since the arrival of KinderGlo, we still have a few nightmares, but it is getting better.

Tim’s Boots- THE place to go for your footwear!

My son recently ruined his old cowboy boots. I should have bought him a better quality pair, seeing that he believes himself to be a farmer. I thought he would wear them more for dress up then for going out. Boy, was I wrong. I had bought him a very inexpensive pair of boots in August, and they just didn’t stand up to Little Boy play. My Little Man is not even tough on clothes and shoes, so I was mad!

It’s too bad I didn’t find Tim’s Boots before I bought him that junky pair. Tim’s Boots offers quality boots for the whole family, at a variety of prices and styles. There is something for everyone- and this momma is eying up a few of these gorgeous boots.

My Little Man nearly lost his mind when he opened up the box and saw these great kids cowboy boots– he has worn them everyday since- even with sweatpants, and he tried to wear them to bed. Clearly I drew the line there. But these look great, even two weeks later- check it out- daily wear, parks, playgrounds, school, etc- and they still look fresh out of the box new.

Holiday Shopping at Bandai- Pocoyo and Thundercats!

The holidays are very quickly approaching- what to do when you need a great gift for that special child in your life?

Pocoyo is always a good bet, with the adorable show on TV, Pocoyo and all his friends have laughed their way into our homes and into our kids wish lists. Based on the popular Pocoyo CGI television series, the new Pocoyo SwiggleTraks feature set is the fun and engaging preschool toy that encourages kids to learn through laughter. The set includes pieces that can bend, twist and extend to suit any child’s imagination, and a motorized bridge that gives the set a dynamic “swiggle” action. To experience SwiggleTraks and “SwiggleStunts” in action, check them out on YouTube-

Nominated for a Toy Industry Association’s 2011 “Toy of the Year Award”, Pocoyo SwiggleTraks is now available online and at retail locations nationwide including Toys R Us, Amazon.com and select Walmart stores. These were a big hit with Pre-K and younger ages, and they entertained the adults who saw them as well. My son is four, and he gets a huge kick out of watching Pocoyo move about the tracks, and designing his own track as well.

Other fun and beneficial toys in the Pocoyo line include:

Zip Bin Farm by Neat-oh! W!N a Zip Bin of your own, as well

You all know Little Man is a nut for farming. The animals, the hats and boots, the wide open spaces, he loves it all. Especially the animals and barnyards. As most kids to he has accumulated lots of ‘favorites’. These favorites are often misplaced and lead to day long expeditions to hunt for his ‘precious’. It is a big headache for us and for him.

Zip Bins help this problem quite a bit. A Zip Bin is a play mat that is also a toy containers. So you can put like themed toys with the play mat. IE the big farm set can be put in the Farm Zipbin with all the animals. So next time Little Man wants to play farm it is all together even his favorite little baby chicken, who always ends up in the couch cushion. This is a great idea, in an instant you know exactly what kind of toys are in, or should be in, each container. Farm stuff is in the Farm Zipbin. Cleanup is a breeze too, just zip up the container, insert toys, repeat until all toys are in container, then put the lid on the Zipbin and you are done.
The idea is simple yet incredibly useful.

The Zip bins are also high quality, we have a few of these and none have shown and signs of wear and tear. The zippers are also good ones. We have had some low quality zippers in the past, you know the ones, the pull snaps off, or the zipper gets caught on every little thing. Well these are not those, at all.

One of you will win a Zip Bin of your own!
