What’s new for Christmas? THOR!!!!

For my little guy, Thor is “the man” at the moment (and by the way- Thor is the guy who sings “Lightning Crashes” don’t ya know? LOL It’s totally not the band Live). No, of course I didn’t let him watch the movie- that’s a little too old for him- but he loves Marvel and action heroes, so Thor is awesome! And since mommy has been inundating him with myths and legends since birth, and daddy is a comic-geek, he was a sure thing to love these new fun Thor toys!

(Approximate Retail Price: $19.99 & $7.99; Ages: 5 & up)
Kids can now pretend to be their favorite Asgardian and summon the power of THOR! Hasbro’s THOR LIGHTNING HAMMER delivers a great role-play experience, allowing fans to recreate the on-screen action of the upcoming film, THOR. The replica of THOR’S signature weapon is fully equipped with electronic battle sounds and a launching projectile. Requires three “AAA” batteries, included.

Helping to complete the THOR role-play experience is Hasbro’s THOR HELMET. Styled after the Asgardian’s iconic wing-tipped helmet, the role-play toy lets kids pretend to be the mighty hero.

For real, how cool, right? Yeah- Thor was worn for quite some time- and we also had to bring our little Thor action figure as well. Because you can’t be some wacko kid in a helmet- you also need to have a toy to carry about as well. 😛

Dragonfire Stunt Chaser- Daddy’s Corner!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to race a car at 300 mph, but do not have the funds for a Lamborghini ? Well unfortunately I did not review one of those, but I did get a new remote controlled car that travels at 300 mph *cough* scale speed*cough*!

This car is called the Dragonfire Stunt Chaser. It is super simple to use and has a lot of potential. The best way to describe it is think of Speedy Gonzalez with four wheels that follows a special red light. This red light is used to guide the chaser where ever you wish. It follows it blazing fast and will follow it up ramps, around giant cyclone tubes, anywhere. The cars are also dual sided, this [Read more…]

Teacup Doggies

What is cooler then a teacup pig? Well how about a teacup dog? No- I don’t mean one of the little designer pooches the ‘lady-child’ of the moment has strapped to their purse I mean the new toy line Teacup Doggies! Teacup dogs say 25 phrases, and come with their own teacup, birth certificate and accessories.

We received Tracy from the fine folks at Toy Teck. She is a pink poodle, and can you guess who loved her? Little Man, of course- who cares if she is pink? She is a doggie!!!! She also arrived with a fashion set. The dog herself has buttons and switches her on ,which activates sounds which are appropriate for the [Read more…]

Plasma Car- Review and G!VEAWAY (you are going to want this!)

When is the last time you saw a 3 ft tall driver barreling down the street, turning the steering wheel more wildly then a cartoon character, and not called 911? No- this isn’t too much eggnog and olives drenched in vodka for Grandma at Christmas. This is the plasma car, for your kids, silly! Plasma car is a kid powered vehicle which moves by turning the steering wheel in a back and forth motion, about 30 degrees each way, to go forward in a wobbly and silly manner. The car moves completely in this manner, meaning your kids legs are left for more important things like stopping the car in emergencies 🙂 If questioning how exactly it works your best bet is to check out the video:

Little Man liked it because it looks like a spaceship car. We like it because, sans up a hill, it keeps the speed to a minimum while keeping the fun at a maximum. Also, trying to figure out how it works is always a head scratcher for everyone. I suspect it has to do with the size of the three tires at the front of the vehicle, but honestly I am not really sure. All I do know is, Little Man likes it, it uses no batteries and for now fulfills his need for speed.

OK, so- maybe he didn’t really get the whole steering thing- but he is stubborn like a mule, LOL- he still loves it!

One of you will win a PlasmaCar as well! Of course, if you want to make sure one is under the Christmas Tree or as a gift for Hanukkah, you can always buy it here– many Learning Express stores also carry them, I have seen them on my Quest for a Santa YooHoo!

The Bake Shop- Cookies, Cakes, and Whoopie Pies- W!N Yours Here!

One of the big selling points of Amish country for Little Man is the baked goods. There is one in particular that tickles his fancy at every turn and causes him to actually yell in delight. The infamous Whoopie Pie. When done right it is a melding of cake, cookie, and vanilla/butter cream frosting into Amish good-ness. We are now connoisseurs of the Whoopie pie, and know where the best are made. One of these bakers of pure joy is The Bake Shop.

When compared toe to toe with Pennsylvania Amish and Ohio Amish, these stand up quite well. Yes, there is a difference- but that is not a bad thing. Bake Shop’s Whoopie Pies are chocolate cake with a light fluffy butter cream filling. The cake itself has more bite to it then the PA Amish pies, a bit closer to a fluffy cookie. Overall quite good. The pies themselves are almost bite size, which is nice or not nice for popping one in your mouth and getting the whole she-bang in one shot, LOL.

The Bake Shop also sell an assortment of cookies, brownies, hand made marshmallows and caramels. They are definitely added to the list of places to call before the big holiday party.

TrackMaster Cranky And Flynn Save The Day

Thomas and his friends are always out either getting into trouble and trying to help each other get out of it. The newest line of toys from TrackMaster is Cranky and Flynn Save The Day. Cranky is a Cane and Flynn is a new fire truck which is featured in the Thomas direct to video film, Flynn Saves the day. New movie nominee for best usage of a firetruck with a face on it, LOL- think the academy will go for that? Haha.

The new TrackMaster line of toys separates itself from the other Fisher Price Thomas lines with two important characteristics- one, detail! There is much more detail to these train sets, making them a long lasting Thomas set, one that will retain the interest of your little guy or girl in a few months instead of gathering dust on a shelf or bottom of a closet. The other characteristic is they are motorized. In this particular set, Cranky is controlled [Read more…]

3DS stocking stuffers- Fun Video Games

So you all know how much we love the 3DS this year for the holidays. Now we take a look at a few more great 3DS games and even a DS game which is often overlooked.

First we start with a stellar DS game, Professor Layton and the Last Specter. The story of professor Layton is an easy one to jump into, think Sherlock Holmes with more puzzles and a younger assistant. This particular game is a prequel to the trilogy which began with Professor Layton and the Curious Village. In this game we meet his assistant and start up a new trilogy of games. Originally scheduled to be one trilogy, this new/prequel trilogy was began when the developer learned of people love of the characters and game design. Professor Layton is a puzzle based detective story which is heavy on the puzzle solving and thinking.
This particular game also includes a large role playing game starring the Professor called “Professor Layton’s London Life”. This game is a bit plain graphically, but is a very nice addition to an already incredibly fun game.

Next up is a game for the more casual gamers and kids among us, Nintendogs and Cats. This game lets you raise a puppy and for all intents and purposes, lets you “adopt” a new pet. It is quite fun as most digital pets are. This is a fun game for little ones. The kind of game a little kid can fool around with for quite some time, then come back to later. This is more of an interactive toy then an actual game to me. Take your dog for walks, to the store, the park, give them baths, teach them new tricks, everything you do with a real dog. The only problem we had with Nintendogs was when we had to say the dogs name, the 3DS couldn’t hear us when we said the same name twice as it asked.

When designing this portion of the game I really wish there was a way to skip it. It took us a good half hour of Little Man trying, then me trying, then use shutting it off because it was stuck. We had to start the whole process again. Quite a bit aggravating, but these things can be expected with any game which requires user input, its going to go wonky sometimes. Other then this one issue, it was definitely a favorite of Little Man. Just a word of warning, the 3D elements are not meant for children below the age of 7. Little Man still had a blast and the game is just as playable in 2D as it is in 3D. We did turn the 3D off for him, and we suggest you turn it off for your kids as well.

Up next is a launch title. Meaning this was released at the same time as the 3DS, Pilotwings Resort. In this game you take your Mii avatar, which is created and paired with your 3DS, and fly around the island of Wuhu. The air crafts available are [Read more…]
