National Geographic Kids has launched a new campaign to try and break not one, but TWO, Guinness World Records. The program is called Run for the Planet, and it is an effort to encourage children to do something good for both their health and the environment.
- The first record they are going after is the longest shoe chain. Participants are encouraged to send in used athletic shoes, which will be tied together to break the record and then recycled into athletic surfaces, such as basketball courts and running tracks. This record is underway, and we have already gotten submissions from Taylor Swift, Eli Manning, Danica Patrick and One Direction (along with other celebrities)! See the image below.
- The second record is for the most people to run (or walk) 100-meters in 24 hours. Participants can complete their 100-meters between noon ET, Friday, Oct. 26 and ending at noon ET Saturday, Oct. 27. Children, families, schools, sports clubs and other groups are encouraged to help set both records! Visit the Run for the Planet site for all the details!
Sounds like fun!
That’s such a cool idea! How fun to break a world record too!
Sounds like a great idea. I have some shoes I would love to donate. 🙂
Love the idea of the longest shoe chain! Thanks for the share!
