The holidays bring out all kinds of fancy and innovative new lighting and decorating techniques.  The most recent are the laser lights which bring lights onto your home without actually having to put up lights one by one.  Instead, a projector is set up and lights burst forth onto your home no matter the size with a full light display. some displays are of one or two colors and most are stationary or not moving.  But some move and some even have a holiday themes and one in particular is a licensed product, to go along with the holiday favorite movie, A Christmas Story.

This outdoor laser light projector gives you two colors – red and green- with swirling spinning patterns of ornament shapes and bursts of color.  In addition to these basic designs, there are also classic items from the movie, including the leg lamp, Ralphie in a bunny costume, the crate for the leg lamp, the “shoot your eye out” scene, broken glasses, Ralphie and his BB gun, and Ralphie’s friend Flick with his tongue stuck to a flag pole.  Each design is easy to recognize and simple, perfect to be projected on your home.  It’s different and funny! This projector is perfect for fans of the movie, or someone just trying to find a unique and different way to decorate their home this year.  The colors are bright, and set up is a breeze.  Also to note, the projector can be set up with a timer with the rest of your Christmas lights to make for worry free holiday lighting night after night.

Disclosure- This post is in partnership with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

pets movie

Have you see the movie “The Secret Life of Pets” yet? I took my son while it was still in theaters, and we both enjoyed it. I thought it was going to be another movie that you, as a parent, sat through because you love your kid- but it was super cute, and I even laughed out loud a few times. I’m all for shows and movies everyone can watch (and that go beyond simple “endurance” as a parent). If you’ve not seen this one yet- do. It’s fun. And it has a great message too, without being at all preachy.

It’s available in stores everywhere as of December 6, so you can go get your copy any time you want.  (It’s a great holiday gift, as well.) Here is a trailer of the movie, in case you haven’t seen any yet.

My son was eleted when the movie came- and he was even more excited when he saw it came with a Secret Life of Pets poster as well. He even got a hat and stickers- perfect for this holiday season. He (of course) immediately popped the movie in. We also watched it together over the weekend when daddy was around.

pic4

Neither he nor I had a favorite character, they were all fun. Max, of course, was great- but there would be no movie without Duke or Gidget, and Pops is too much. It’s hard to talk about why we love the characters without giving away the movie- best just to watch it. Another reason to get a copy of the movie is that The Secret Life of Pets DVD or Blue Ray comes with 3 Mini Movies as well as features nearly an hour of bonus content, including three hilarious mini-movies: the all-new Norman Television and Weenie PLUS Mower Minions which debuted in theaters.

pet stickers

The main premise of the movie is “Ever wonder what your pets do when you’re not home?” Find out what these pets are up to when their owners head out. The same people who created Despicable Me made this one, so you know it will be funny.

pic8

One of the reasons the movie was so funny? The all-star voice cast had to have a hand in it, I think.  This includes Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Dana Carvey, Hannibal Buress, Bobby Moynihan, Steve Coogan, and Albert Brooks.

We received the Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack Target Exclusive featuring 4 pages of decals. The combo pack comes with the Blu-ray,  DVD, and a Digital copy. Plus, you can decorate your room, car, office, laptop, or wall with 4 pages of decals featuring main characters and their funny personalities.

One of you can win a copy of your own- feel free to enter using the RC form below. Good luck! Ends Dec. 30, 2016.

How To Know If You Are A Millennial Geek

pic4

Since the Millennials have become the dominant generation in the workplace, the cultural impact of their social behavior and their favorite devices is what defines what is now fully accepted as cool by the generations Y and Z. And believe it or not, being a geek is one of the trendiest features you could have. Let’s have a look at their top 5 traits.

You Can’t Live Without Your Phone

Do you find yourself taking pictures of your food or the signs in the shops to share in real time with your best friends? 39% of Millennials engage more with their smartphone than with their friends, family, children, co-workers, and partners. Yet, as they mainly use the device to keep in touch with these same people, we can safely argue that Millennials are always talking to the ones who matter to them. If you find yourself turning to your phone for support in life, the geek force is already strong with you!

You Are A Digital Freelancer

No generation values independence as much as the Millennials do. The Millennial geek goes one step further as he or she has landed the dream job: Freelancing. A freelancer is, as you might have guessed, someone who can look in the mirror every morning and greet the best boss on earth with their bed head smile. The preferred freelancing roles tend to be focused on digital projects, such as web developer, designer, and blogger (or even vlogger for the lovers of video blogs). In short, the freelancer is that trendy person who takes their Macbook to the local coffee shop and works from there all day while slurping delicious coffee. Naturally, this is the glitter image. In truth, freelancing is a combat of every day. Thankfully, there are a few basics to follow to make the freelancing life smoother, https://havesippywilltravel.com/2011/12/laws-that-every-freelancer-should-know.html. But this is a little less true for the geek who can be so talented that clients are queueing up.

You Wonder When Your Favorite Shows Will Be on Netflix

You rely on demand TV to satisfy your appetite for good and original shows. Did you cry when Netflix took Doctor Who off? Are you eager to find out when the show of your heart will be back? By the way if you are anything like me, you will surely enjoy this little read www.netflixupdate.com/when-will-supernatural-season-10-be-on-netflix/ that takes the edge off the long waiting for the next Supernatural season. This is the natural evolution of DVD sets, and the geek is very aware of this low-cost high-quality form of entertainment. So be aware that we don’t talk about watching TV anymore. As a well-equipped geek, you will be watching your favorite series on your favorite screen device, which could be your tablet, your laptop, your TV, or even your phone.

You Embrace Healthy Food

The growing interest in healthy nutrition and organic food has developed new areas of expertise in the population. When in the 1990s healthy diets used to list lettuce and diet soda, the educated geek diets are more diverse nowadays. They can rely on a vegan only approach to food, on careful ketosis calibration, on the addition of healthy alternatives from other cultures, or even on purely free from products (as we can see now with gluten and lactose free diets). It’s not uncommon to find tofu and chia seeds in a geek cupboard, because, contrary to the common beliefs, the Millennial geek loves healthy food more than anything else.

You Are Socially Awkward

The image of geeks has changed. If you remember the 1990s, the geek was generally represented as an overweight man who wore thick glasses and was too shy to talk to girls. Stop. Wake up now. This is a cliché. Geeks have a tendency to behave awkwardly in social events for a variety of good reasons: They are so qualified in a highly specialist subject that they find it difficult to discuss more common topics such as the weather or pop music; being freelancers they don’t share the normal 9-to-5 routine and therefore don’t understand any office-related discussions; they spend so much time communicating via digital forms that they are not sure how to send smileys IRL.

So, be honest with yourself, how much of a geek are you? Being a geek is representative of the Millennials generation, but don’t feel sorry if you don’t score high on the scale. Not everybody’s charm relies on social awkwardness!

A Travel Guide for New York City on a Budget

New York is one of the most exciting and vibrant cities in the world. This iconic city is on the wish list of every traveler with interests in the arts, history, culture and nightlife. New York is an attractive destination but the question is, is it ideal for budget travelers as well? Yes, it is and you’d be wrong to assume it to be too pricey a destination to visit. You can plan well in advance and visit the city in an economical manner.

Here are some tips to get a New York City tour on a budget:

Get the trip planning right

First things first, a cost-effective trip of New York requires good planning. You need to research which sights are near each other so that they can be visited together–saving time and money. You also need to find out which days museums offer free admission, this will give you big savings.

Save with bundled tour passes

The easiest way to save on your NYC sightseeing is by purchasing a bundled tour pass, especially when you wish to visit a lot of popular places and attractions in the city. Tour passes bundles various tours and activities thereby offering you a reduced price. You are also spared the inconvenience of paying separately for each tour. The more they offer, the more you save!

Look for discounts & coupons

You can visit websites of several landmarks and attractions and find coupons or discounts. Not all attractions in NYC have an entry fee and you can search to know which are free. Similarly, you can collect coupons and then get discounts on food, shopping, entry to landmarks etc.

Save through inexpensive events and Broadway tickets

New York is a city that offers a lot of free concerts, art exhibits, music shows etc. Want to save money on Broadway theater tickets? Visit one of the TKTS discount theater ticket booths located around town. There are 3 of them: one in Midtown, one at the South Street Seaport and one in Brooklyn. They sell discounted tickets for same day matinee and evening performances.

Be selective about transportation

Buy a MetroCard and get non-stop rides for a week or even longer. A MetroCard pass offers you unlimited trips on both the subway and buses in all 5 NYC boroughs for the duration of the pass. Or purchase a hop-on hop-off bus tour that gives you a guided tour through the city while offering a way to hop-on or hop-off the bus near popular city attractions.

Experience the real New York on foot

New York is a great city explored by foot. Since most of Manhattan is based on a grid system it is hard to get lost. Below Houston Street there is no grid and it is a bit easier to get lost but getting lost is half the fun–you never know what you may find!

Navigate around cycle routes

Biking is also fun. Bikes can be rented for an hour, a day or longer. New York is a bike friendly city and is becoming more so every day! You can bike around town independently or join a bike tour with a guide.

Dine away from upscale market

There are lots of different types of ethnic foods in New York and if you want to save money that is the way to go. It is also a lot of fun to try all the different foods that New York has to offer while saving money at the same time! Be sure to check out bars offering happy hour discounted prices.

Stay outside Manhattan to save on lodging

Don’t book a hotel room in Manhattan when cost is a major consideration. Rather, try one of the outer boroughs where prices are not as steep. Hostels and apartment rentals are great alternatives to pricey Manhattan hotels too.

Shop at a flea market

New York is a shoppers paradise. Try visiting one of the weekend flea markets to find something unique and interesting. Canal Street is a great place to save a lot on purses, jewelry and similar items.

Overall, book your hopon hopoff New York tour and explore the best this metropolis has to offer. Plan well in advance and be sure to return home with lots of memories!

First Time Flu? Three Crucial Tips for Taking Care of Your Kids

The flu represents a potential nightmare for any parent and child: however, what do you do when the seemingly inevitable happens?

After all, anywhere between 5% to 20% of the population will get the flu as per last year’s flu statistics. With flu season almost in full swing, you can take all of the precautions under the sun and still have your child fall ill.

Instead of assuming that the flu could never infiltrate your home, take the proactive steps to prepping your household for such illness and ensuring your child’s comfort and safety at the same time. Beyond going to the doctor and receiving the proper medication, the responsibility of making your child feel better is ultimately on your shoulders.

Ask yourself: are you doing everything in your power at home in case your child catches the flu? Whether you suspect your child may picked up the flu or might have something more serious than the common cold, keep the following tips in mind as you play the role of home doctor.

Sleep is the Best Medicine

The most important aspect of recovering from the flu, regardless of what treatments and medicines are prescribed to your child, is a good night’s sleep. It’s crucial that you quarantine your child to their bedroom to avoid the potential spread of any sickness and give them comfort, whilst also regularly checking on them throughout the day to avoid any feelings of isolation or loneliness.

That being said, most children with the flu tend to sleep intermittently throughout the day, so you need to do the best you can to ensure a quality sleeping space for your child. For example, consider the following as the absolute essentials:

  • Something to keep the sun out, such as bamboo blinds, to make sure that the sun doesn’t interrupt your child’s slumber during the day

  • A dehumidifier to encourage easier breathing and cleaner air quality

  • A bedside fan to ensure that your child doesn’t get too hot when running a high fever

The fewer potential disturbances to your child while they sleep, the better their recovery will be.

Fill Up on Fluids

Obviously you should provide your child with plenty of fluids, including any combination of water, sports drinks such as Gatorade and citrus juices with plenty of vitamin C. While whether or not milk increases mucus production is still a point for debate, it’s probably better just to go with any of the former to ensure that your child stays probably hydrated and their symptoms don’t’ become irritated.

Since illness can have an impact on your child’s appetite, you may get some strange requests as a result of their cravings. Regardless, hot meals such as condensed soups are always a safe bet if you’re on a budget.

Doctor’s Orders

You should have an open dialogue with your doctor’s office in case anything seems off in terms of your child’s treatment or recovery. Strive to stick with your doctor’s orders but also consider having additional pain relievers or medicines on deck for the sake of your child. Simply make sure that nothing you offer your child has adverse drug interactions with their prescription medication (a quick Google search or conversation with your child can help you figure this out).

Fighting the flu requires a lot of patience and attention on your part; however, your child’s health should always be your number one priority. Do everything in your power to make your child comfortable and hopefully their symptoms will be gone sooner rather than later.

We recently sat down for a family night in, and gave the movie a watch. My son had been wanting to see it. He loved it, and it was not as bad as I thought it would be (look, as an adult, not every kid movie is up my alley, ok? Let’s just be honest.) There were parts I was amused by, and even though it was coney, it was cute. He has watched it quite a few times. He has watched the movie a few times now- mostly with our pets.

nine lives movie

While the movie didn’t get the best reviews with critics, I have to tell you it was better then I thought it was be. It wasn’t one of those “painful to watch” kid movies. My son really enjoyed it, and your kids will as well, if they are cat lovers. It was silly, it was schtick-y, it has all that physical humor kids like- it was cute.

pic6

The cats liked it as well- but how couldn’t she, right? They also loved all the cat goodies that 9 Lives sent for them to play with- so they can “get into the movie” themselves.

cat

Too bad the bowls didn’t say “Mr. Fuzzypants” like the kitty in the movie  🙂 My son loved that name. See, the cheese- factor goes over super well with the kiddos, LOL.

Best Romantic Getaways in Europe

Europe has long been a mecca for couples in love. Splendid architecture, rich history, and mesmerizing atmosphere of European cities attract honeymooners and lovers from different countries of the world. If you can’t decide where to spend your romantic weekend, here is a list of the most atmospheric European cities compiled by marrybrides.com.

Venice, Italy

Venice is Italy’s most romantic city. It’s a great destination for a day trip. Built on the water, the city is a network of canals, so the best way to plunge into the local atmosphere is to take a gondola ride. This “floating” city is very popular among tourists and romantic couples, so you need to plan your trip and go there not in a high season. But a gondola ride is not the only thing to do in Venice. Contemplate beautiful architecture walking down its streets, get a bird’s eye view of the city from the tallest building in the city, and kiss standing on one of the city bridges.

Budapest, Hungary

Prepare your eyes and your camera because you’re going to see a lot of beautiful things in Budapest – a real pearl of Eastern Europe. Gothic architecture, cobblestone streets, medieval buildings, and old bridges will make you feel you traveled back in time or rather lost in a fairy tale. Visit the Castle District to get that fairytale feel among the turrets of Fisherman’s Bastion. Watch the sunset and steal a kiss standing on the Chain Bridge over the Danube.

Vienna, Austria

The capital of Austria can be also called the capital of waltz. Vienna will steal your heart at first sight and make you fall in love with your significant other once again. Grand palaces, elegant gardens, monumental streets, and the smell of coffee create a truly romantic atmosphere of the city. Don’t miss the chance to take a waltz dancing class and sip Viennese coffee.

Copenhagen, Denmark

In 2013, Copenhagen was voted as the happiest city in the world. It’s beautiful and romantic and it will make a great romantic getaway for your couple. The city is green and clean and one of the reasons for that is that most citizens use bicycles as a means of transportation. Visit the most popular Copenhagen’s attraction – the Tivoli amusement park, get a bit childish and believe in miracles. Wander about the city and find the Nyvahn Harbor and the street of the same name famous for its brightly painted houses. Rent Segways and get to the iconic statue of the Little Mermaid – the official symbol of the city.

Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Being nicknamed as the Venice of the North, Amsterdam is often considered to be even a better alternative to the Italian city. Narrow streets lined with elegant houses and neat trees invite you for a romantic stroll. Explore Amsterdam’s best museums and galleries, eat street food, rent a bicycle, and contemplate beautiful architecture reflected in the water.

Barcelona, Spain

If you’re looking for a place where to celebrate your anniversary, Barcelona is what you need. This seaside city will fascinate you with beautiful scenery, splendid architecture, and magical ambiance created by the sounds of Spanish guitar. The magic fountain and a spectacular flamenco show should be included in your must-see list.
