People who are into cool family photos or amazing selfies can take some snaps next to a huge Kirby figure, beside an oversized Yoshi egg, inside a barrel flanked by Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, under a devastating blue Spiny Shell in the Mario Kart 7 area or next to a giant Pokéball in the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire region. The New Super Mario Bros. 2 section features a photogenic flagpole, stacks of coins and a warp pipe, while the YO-KAI WATCH area makes people look like they have stepped into Springdale, the town in the game, complete with mischievous Yo-kai lurking about.

At each location, visitors can compete for a chance to win prizes (while supplies last) and play games on a video wall shaped like a giant Nintendo 3DS system. The Play Nintendo Tour is scheduled to visit the following locations:

About The Nai-Ni Chen Program at NJPAC
From her own cultural journey as a Chinese immigrant in America, Nai-Ni Chen created Calligrafitti with noted composer Huang Ruo – a new piece which links the graceful, elegant lines of Chinese calligraphic art with the grit and rebellious freedom of American graffiti. According to Ink Painting Today “Calligraphy is sheer life experienced through energy in motion that is registered as traces on silk or paper, with time and rhythm in shifting space its main ingredients.”. By this definition, calligraphy reflects Nai-Ni Chen’s own background in Chinese dance, Peking Opera, and Chinese martial art. On the other hand, graffiti was born out of thirst for expression in the urban environment. For Nai-Ni, it reflects her immigration to America: her search for a sense of freedom as an 18-year-old performer first visiting New York City. Calligrafitti – will be performed with live music by the New Asia Chamber Music Society.
Mirage (2009) further showcases Nai-Ni Chen’s unique integration of Chinese philosophy and art into her work. Mirage originates from her journey to the Silk Road and integrates the essence of sculptures and paintings found within ancient Buddhist caves and the ecstatic rhythm and shifting motions of the Uyghur culture.

WORLD PREMIERE: First Touch, a new piece that will have its world premiere at this concert, is a sensuous, physical duet that examines the human primal desire to connect.

Walt Disney Worlds Resorts with Scholastic’s Can’t Wait for School Break collection

Now that the sun is finally starting to peek its head around the clouds and warm that nip out of the air its time to start thinking about family trips. As with most family trips kids will of course be coming, drat. But fear not human parents, with the help of Scholastic there are many tips to be found to make the most of your trip, either during the school year or just making it through a long car or plane ride.

In our house Dad likes his audio books in the car while Mom can’t stand them, but what if the audio books were more kid centered. With audio books the longest of rides are simply eaten away at with a good story and an enthusiastic reader. Scholastic has a few suggestions for children of all ages and I am sure if Mom, Dad and little one look through the list together they will find at least one story they can all enjoy together.

If audio books aren’t for you there are also tablets for the kids and adults, as well as portable music players and digital games for little kids, big kids and adult kids. With your in flight entertainment figured out its time to wrap your head around school work. What are some ways to keep your kid stimulated and learning while on vacation?

Below are a few tips from Scholastic:

1) Give your teacher the heads up at least a week before hand, they will be happy to keep your child in the know with current school work.

2) Double check supplies, make sure you have pens, pencils, crayons, notebooks, etc. Especially if leaving the country or going to a more rural area where office supply stores are not available.

3) Stay in touch, check the class website, email the teacher, etc.

4) Every day is a learning experience if you look and be creative, have your child journal her experiences and feelings (reinforces ELA connections and mindfulness), research the destination (underscores study skills and social studies concepts), bring her own independent reading book for the trip (always a good idea), help calculate mileage and a budget for souvenirs (enhances math connections) are a few suggestions.

5) remember bed time stories, keep the bed time rituals going and read as often as possible. Keep a book log and find topics relevant to your trip. Going to New York City, find a book about it, etc.

6) Bring a tablet or laptop, the internet is a wealth of information for kids and parents from tutorials to video lessons, a topic is just a few clicks away.

Star Fox Zero for the Nintendo Wii U

Star Fox has quickly become one of the fun Nintendo staples for each of its consoles, from his debut on the Super Nintendo right on through to the Wii U with Star Fox Zero.

pic5

Each one builds upon the familiar,  rails shooting style to open area dog fights, while building up on new vehicles as well as mechanics.

In addition to the familiar Arwing, which is Star Fox’s memorable space craft, there are also the Walker which is a bird type running hopping transformation of the Arwing.  The Land master is a tank design which can also perform on ground rolls from side to side adding much needed mobility to the force of destruction.  The newest addition is the Gyrowing and Direct-i.  This combo vehicle includes a slow moving but very mobile helicopter feeling hover craft which is attached to a small drone type robot which can collect items as well as hack computer systems.

Star Fox has also brought some classic friends along for the adventure this time around as well, including the tough guy falcon, Falco Lombardi, the troublesome Slippy Toad, and the tactician Peppy Hare.

The enemies are varied and a blast to mow through a galaxy of more then 9 locations.  Also Star Fox Zero interfaces with the Fox McCloud Amiibo as well as the Falco Lonbardi figure.  Both of which unlock new Arwing designs for Fox to use.

The controls do take some learning to master, but with the proper amount of trying and learning the game mechanics are easy to get into. My son was more drawn to the Star Fox Guard game, while Dad liked Star Fox Zero.  For fans of the series you are going to have fun, for new comers this is also a nice way to get your feet wet in the gorgeous graphics and fast paced gameplay of a Star Fox dog fight.

Star Fox Zero is out now for the retail prices of $59.99 and includes a second tower defense type game called Star Fox Guard.

Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition for the Nintendo 3DS

Disclosure- We received this game in order to review it.  All opinions are our own and honest. For more, see “I Disclose”.

pic1

This is a game for adult players. While there is no outright “acts”, there are some allusions that in my opinion make this not the best game for young gamers.  My husband played this game, enjoyed it, and has reviewed it below.  There are interactions with other characters in the game that are a bit grown up, such as blowing on them, touching faces, flirting, and other things of that nature. Nothing major, but a little to adult for kids for my personal taste.

Fire Emblem is the long running RPG with tactical movements on a grid environment.  Each environment has various obstacles and story line elements from Dragon Veins to deep canyons.  The series spans over 15 games and often refers to a weapon or shield seen as the power of war and dragons.  Each character has a turn in your party and then the enemy gets a turn for each of their characters.  There are also ally characters who you help and defend throughout the course of the game.  The most striking element of this game is the story line.  It starts out as many role playing games do, with a lost main character just trying to fit in.  From there, it spins out of control and an important decision must be made- stay with the family that raised you, side with you biological family, or choose neither.  Depending on your pick is which game you will play each with its own unique story which weaves your player into some interesting adventures and situations.

pic2

Fire Emblem Fates : Birthright has you side with your biological family, Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest with the family which raised you and Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation has you side with neither.  Each story is fun to play and is in its own right a fully developed tale, but to get the true entire story all three games should be played.  This can add up to quite a bit of money if each game is purchased separately, but if purchased together in the Special Edition bundle you receive not only all three games on one cartridge on game release without having to wait for Revelations to become available but you also receive a 3DS carrying pouch and a hardcover art book featuring some of the stunning artwork from the game.

Fire Emblem Fates Birthright and Fire Emblem Fates Conquest retail for $39.99 each and the Special Edition with all three games retails for $79.99.  And will be available 02/19/16.  While Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation will be available for download on 03/10/16 for $19.99  or on 02/19/16 with the Special Edition.

WIN Alvin and the Chipmunks The Road Chip DVD #AlvinInsiders #FamilyRoadChip

It is that time again, for a new Alvin and The Chipmunks movie.  This time, we follow the hilarious antics of our favorite singing woodland creatures as they go cross country to save their friendship- or is it their family?  This movie is meant for the little ones in the audience and as such, the story line is easy to follow. Dave, the Chipmunks manager/father figure, is enjoying time with his new girlfriend Samantha, and they go on a trip to Miami.

pic2

The chipmunks suspect there are other plans afoot, an engagement and try to foil Dave’s plan.  Their main issue with the engagement is having Samantha’s son Miles in their lives.  Not a nice kid. In an increasingly chaotic adventure, the Chipumks and Miles team up to get to Miami and work together to bring Dave and Samantha apart.  In the process, they all learn about working together and get closer then expected.

My son loved this movie.  He likes the songs, and the Chipmunks TV show is one he has always enjoyed.

Alvin also enjoyed taking a “Road Chip” of his own with us to NYC.  He had so  much fun with my son as we traveled around, and explored some of the most fun spots and famous places in the city.  Here he is at the Museum of Natural History.

20160318_201559

He joined us at our 4H Club meeting.

20160320_121441

He enjoyed sitting on the iconic “Wayne’s World” couch and set at the SNL Exhibit- still open and worth the visit!

20160320_124007

He saw the majesty that was “King Tut” at the pop up exhibit- so much gold!  He was just blown away, ha.

20160320_142146

Sadly, he was eaten by Spongebob Squarepants at Madame Tussauds.  It was a dark, tragic day.

The Only Cure for THE JUNGLE BOOK Movie is MORE COWBELL! #JungleBook

We just saw the new live action version of Disney’s “The Jung;e Book”.  My son loved the animated version, as well as Rudyard Kipling’s story.  As a huge animal lover, I knew he would love this one, and he certainly did.  It’s a little dark for the littlest viewers (there is some animal violence, nothing graphic at all) but some of the little peanuts got scared, so be warned.

pic1

My boy is 8, and I think he is a great age for this movie. My husband and I really enjoyed it as well, and I’m not a person to go nuts for children’s movies.  It was sweet, kept everyone’s attention, and was really, really well done. Not to mention the voices were fun- especially Christopher Walken as King Louie, haha.

Fun “Easter Egg” moment- Mowgli in the monkey temple.  Fans of SNL and Walken in general will get a kick out of this fun moment.

pic2

My son can’t wait to see it again, and has been raving about it to all his friends.  It’s a very different movie then the animated version you are used to and have seen, and I think you will like it.  I don’t want to give much away, but I recommend it highly. The Jungle Book opens this Friday, make sure to grab your tickets and head in.

pic9

Cast: Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong’o, Scarlett Johansson, Giancarlo Esposito, Neel Sethi and Christopher Walken,

Synopsis: “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub raised in the jungle by a family of wolves, who embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery when he’s forced to abandon the only home he’s ever known. “The Jungle Book” seamlessly blends live-action with photorealistic CGI animals and environments, using up-to-the-minute technology and storytelling techniques to immerse audiences in an enchanting and lush world.
