Disney on Ice- Get Your Tickets NOW!

I adored this magical performance of Disney On Ice- MICKEY & MINNIE’S MAGICAL JOURNEY. Why? It was something a little different- a nearly Princess-free show! Yes, yes, we all love the princesses. But so often, the shows are just consumed by them- in fact, the last show was called Princesses on Ice, LOL. So, how refreshing for a little change in the line-up. The vacation theme? You know I loved that! One more thing I loved, as a mommy of a little guy? There was almost nothing at all (AT ALL) scary in this show. I will elaborate.

Most of the shows have villains, yes? Because that is what Disney does- show the good triumph over evil- but lets be real. Some of those characters can be quite dark, and I quite often get emails, tweets, and comments asking if I think that a young child would be afraid. For this show, I can answer NO- I think almost any child wouldn’t have a moments fear. There were only two times that only the most fearful child would screech- but I didn’t hear any, and honestly they were trivial moments, very brief, and super non-frightening. I would without a doubt bring a small child to this show without a worry in the world about scary characters.

In Act One of this show, we were treated to my son’s favorite- The Lion King! He was in love with the “soft costumes, not plastic costumes” that Simba and Nala wore. While he likes Rafiki, Pumbaa and Timone- it’s of course Simba that took the cake for him. They did a wonderful job transitioning juvenile Simba to the adult, as well.
The world according to Little Man- “They had soft costumes, so Simba was huggy and soft, since he is a baby. Then Big Simba came and played with Nala and his friends. But Scar didn’t even come, since I know he knows what happens next- off the rock. Yeah, but he didn’t even come today. So that’s good for Simba. Simba hates fighting.” There you have it- Little Man’s first Disney review, LOL. (He was asked by a third party what he thought of the show, LOL- and that was his answer. I am glad I had a notebook to write it down, it amused me!)

Enter the Little mermaid- under the sea! Since we are taking a vacation, you know we have to visit the ocean 🙂 We can all use a little more seashore! No scary transformations, crashing ships, Sebastian chopping [Read more…]

Champions for Kids – Make a Simple Snack Pack Shop #Cbias #AbbottCFK

Earlier we took our Abbott shopping trip as we discussed in an earlier post. We decided to grab some Abbott nutritional products including: PediaSure and PediaSure Sidekicks.

Our trip begins where most days begin- on the computer. This time looking for coupons and specials. After a few searches we found a few coupons and our adventure continues. The trip to Walmart was pretty uneventful, you know how car rides go, either they are good or not so good. This one was pretty good, it was well after nap time so everyone was well rested.

When we first arrived at Walmart, we went for or main objective- the Abbott items. They were not so easy to find, and we could not find the bars at all. Of course, no employees wanted to be helpful! LOL When at last we found them, there were lots of flavors to pick from- but they were running very low on chocolate- only two left. After [Read more…]

Little Toot Dolphin Sighting Boat Tour in Clearwater, Florida

Little Toot is an adorable dolphin adventure, perfect for couples or families. If you are in the Clearwater, Florida area and you are looking for a great way to spend a couple of hours, I can’t recommend Little Toot Dolphin Adventure enough!

Little Toot is a small dolphin sightseeing boat tour in Clearwater, Florida.
The Little Toot is the only Dolphin boat that can go into the shallows as well as the Gulf to ensure more Dolphin sightings and closer Dolphin contact. GUARANTEED to see dolphins or your next trip is FREE! Plus, since it has a “tug boat” quality, they can create waves that the dolphins like to play in.

My kids had so much fun. Not only was the boat itself just too cute (nothing ordinary, it looks like a little tugboat right out of a children’s storybook) but the crew was as nice as can be. There were passengers of all ages aboard, and nothing was overlooked, from comfort (there was a place to purchase drinks and snacks and the seats were shaded- Florida is HOT!) to safety. Don’t worry about a thing- just enjoy the ride, and find yourself a dolphin or two!

The scenery was lovely as we sailed along- seeing [Read more…]

Inexpensive Educational Gifts that Kids Will Love

There’s no denying that the kids of today are growing up with an information overload that leads to
short attention spans and an inability to concentrate. With the constant media bombardment they get
from television programs, video games, cell phones, and all of the many electronics that fill their daily
lives it’s a wonder they can function at all, much less cram more information into their already frazzled
brains. So if you’re keen to replace some of their daily media blitzkrieg with educational gifts that will at
least offer some added value, here are a few throwbacks and a couple of newbies that are sure to please
the kids without breaking the bank.

1. Books. Is there any better educational gift than a book? Whether it’s imparting factoids
about animals of the world or simply taking kids on a magical adventure (while simultaneously
improving their vocabulary and reading comprehension skills), there’s really no better way to
calm the chatter that they’re exposed to all day and help them to use their imaginations for a
change.

2. E-reader. Whether your kids already love to read or you’re just hoping that making it digital
will pique their interest, and e-reader is a great way to bring the experience into the modern
era. A lot of fantastic options are on the market, but the Kindle may be one of the best. With
a low price point (the plain e-reader has dropped to $79 since the upgraded Fire came out), a
plethora of books available for purchase via Amazon, plenty of free PDFs that you can download,
and some libraries starting to offer the classics “on loan” for e-readers, you really can’t go wrong
with this handy tool that [Read more…]

Winter the Dolphin- an inspiring true story

When planning a visit to Clearwater, Florida, no trip would be complete without a trip to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. While it has been a Clearwater institution since 1978, it recently became quite famous for one reason- a little dolphin named “Winter”.

When little Winter was only 2 or 3 months old, she became tangled in a crab trap line, wrapping her into a “C” shaped position and (in short) killing her tail. Her peduncle (The lower trunk, extending from the dorsal fin to the fluke. The peduncle is very muscular and generates the power that propels dolphins through the water at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour) was ruined, and needed to be amputated.

Found in Florida’s Indian River Lagoon, several rescues collaborated to save her and bring her to Clearwater. None of them thought she would live, she was very young and small, and her injuries were very severe. While not a malicious attack, and purely accidental, she was still very stressed and this was very damaging to her and her hormones, which can have long term effects- as was having to be formula fed. Winter had no mom to protect and love her. She was named Winter because that is when she was found- in December of ’05.

She was with humans 24/7 for continues care, quality control, treatment, etc. After about 6 months, several cautious surgeries, weaning onto solid food, and the first prosthetic tail ever made incorporating a joint- Winter was placed with an older female “companion”, [Read more…]
