Nickerbacher-The Funniest Dragon- Great Book

Being a teacher as well as a mom of young children, I am a huge fan of childrens’ books. I am always on the lookout for new great books. I must say that Nickerbacher did not disappoint.

About Nickerbacher:

Dragons are magical. Some are ferocious, some are friendly, and some are silly, but wahtever kind of dragon it is, we love reading about them and their incredible adventures. Nickerbacher is a very special dragon. He wants to make his family proud of him, but he doesn’t want to be like all the other dragons. He’s afraid to tell his papa that there are enough dragons to guard princesses.

Radio City New York Spring Spectacular

This past weekend, we took my son to see the Radio Cit Music Hall show, the New York Spring Spectacular. He loved the Christmas Spectacular, so we hoped he would love this one just as much. The show is set in NYC, and is about a tour guide who has been bought out by a company that wants to go virtual. The performers visit all the highlights of NYC’s tourism hotspots, complete with random visits from the Easter Bunny (hey, it’s Spring after all). You can also see some other fun characters- we saw Minions, Paddington Bear, Dora the Explorer, and Power Rangers who made appearances.

There is familiar music throughout the show, as well as some new. There is also quite a bit of audience interaction, including one singled out and made to sing on camera (and broadcast on the large screen on stage). Everyone is handed 3D glasses for some fun experiences, and you are loaned “magic” bracelets that glow and sparkle at certain points during the show. (Give them back at the end.) The dance numbers are fun and new- our favorite was “Singing in the Rain”, where the Rockettes all danced in raingear with umbrellas, and two male members got fairly well soaked while tapping away.

COOLIT Bowl for Kids

You know when that piping hot meal, right off the stove is just too hot? Too hot for that little guy or gal who is starving, and can’t wait to munch it down. You have a table of hungry, hungry hippos and a steaming pot of delicious that is simply too hot to eat right now. Well, you could add ice to it. Water down the food and give it a soaked consistency. This would help with the temperature but ruin the taste.

A possible solution is the Coolit. The Coolit is a new bowl which is kept in the freezer until meal time. The way it works is it is filled with non – toxic gel formulated for rapid cooling. The inner material resembles that used in ice packs for sports injuries. This bowl works perfectly. It brings food to safe temperatures in moments instead of minutes, all while keeping the flavors consistent. Kids love it and parents love it too. The bowl itself is BPA and PTHALATE free, so you won’t feel guilty using it with hot items. It is also top rack dishwasher safe, so cleaning is a breeze.

Can You Build It? Sure, Why Not?

Kids and building go hand in hand- make it bigger, higher, better, more greener- whatever strikes their fancy that particular day. And yes, greener is certainly a word, especially when preceded by “more”. Not only are building toys a good time, but they help with parent child bonding, motor skills and hand-eye coordination, social skills and cooperation, creativity, spatial skills, and more. So, lets get building!

LEGO, of course, are great building toys. With many sets and sizes to choose from, there is something for every kid (and parent) to play with. LEGO DC Comics Batman™: The Penguin Face off lets kids recreate and act out scenes from favorite superhero moments. The Penguin has stolen a diamond and has his minions guarding it- Batman must save the day, of course. Complete with scuba Batman and Penguin minifigs, scuba vehicle and duck boat to build, it also has weapons (because what are superheros without their weapons), Penguin’s umbrella, 2 minion penguins, “diamond”, and more for about $13 on http://shop.lego.com. Another cool thing about this set is that the Penguin and Duck Boat were also seen in the recent “LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League” movie. While the movie is quite a mouthful, it was pretty funny, and a good flick for the whole family (and fans of LEGO and/or Superheroes). If you want to play “real” heroes, take a look at the Swamp Police Starter Set. For $10, you get 4 minifigs, an alligator, boat, raft, “hideout” spot, and quite a few accessories like a spider, snake, handcuffs, walkie talkie, shovel, and more.

Building toys don’t have to be all blocks, bricks, and hard edges anymore- have you met Bun Bun? These are soft and collectible stacking stuffed animals, created to be stacked and piled up. Stacking plush toys have already created a splash overseas in countries like Japan, and they are now hitting the US markets. Bun Bun comes in a variety of sizes, colors, and animal varieties, and encourage kids to be creative and to see how high they can stack their new cuddly toys. Both boys and girls we have tested them with love them, and can’t get enough. My son is in love, since they combine two of his favorite things- building and animals. Stuffed animals? Even better!

It is starting to get warm out, and as such it is time to do some Spring cleaning. It’s one of the “big” clean ups- the other time is around Christmas, ha. The whole house gets done, inside and out. Often times in my house, the kitchen needs the most attention. During this cleaning we also take a look at our cupboards and cabinets to see how well stocked we are for the next few months. Of course, there are some staples like toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, and such that we need to keep around. I really hate running out of things, I like to have them on hand.
