Rootlets

As you already know, I definitely love new books. I could read a book everyday and not ever get bored or tired with reading. I love when I find great new stories for my girls, and I must say that Rootlets did not disappoint.

About Rootlets:

The Rootlets: Super Rootabilities was created and written by Vicki Marquez and illustrated by Jeremy Russnak, introduces readers to the Rootlets – Brocc, Carrotina, Cornelius and Kaley – who live on Planet Planted in the town of VeggieVille with their dog, Basil, and their guardian and caretaker Yammy Grammy, who plucked them from the ground when they were just sprouts. Hilariously fun with bright, bold, colorful illustrations. The Rootlets: Super Rootabilities is a thrilling journey that showcases the super powers of plant-based foods and explores the magic of friendship and imagination.

pic1First up is National Geographic Little Kids Magazine is a bi-monthly magazine which is geared toward kids aged 3 to 6 and as such is full of sharp huge pictures, short stories, picture games, and more.  The magazine is run by National Geographic so picture quality is out of this world and is an incredible wealth of information.  Its so great to come home to an excited little guy who seams to know everything possible about parrots.  Each subscription costs $15 for 6 issues.

pic 1For the bigger kids is National Geographic Kids Magazine, which is geared to ward kids 6-12 years old and has 10 issues a year, roughly monthly.  Sporting more in depth articles and features while still including tons of picture and illustrations.  This magazine is great for kids who are nature and animal lovers as well as lovers of science.  Both magazines are great fun but adults will find it more informative to read through the regular kids magazine. a subscription of 10 issues retails for $15.

Creative Book Reviews

This past week, I had the opportunity to check out three different books to help spark creativity.

books

The first book I received was called Animals Everywhere : a Pop-Up Adventure which was written by Yvonne Deutch and Jonathan Woodward made the beautiful pop up pictures.

pop up book

This book is so much fun to read and the pop-up images are just incredible. Really, with every page I was in awe. Plus, it’s packed with fun facts and definitely kept the kids I read it to thoroughly engaged.  This book would make an excellent gift for any child who loves animals (and knows how to be careful with their books).

National Geographic Books for Kids

Today we are going to look at a few new National Geographic books which are now available in a book store near you.

animalFirst up is Animal Encyclopedia. This book is big, it is 9 1/2 by 12 inches and over 300 pages long. The encyclopedia is a wonderful reference for everyone in the family. It contains over 2,500 species. Each entry includes the animals habitat, what their diet consists of, their weight and height as well as some fun facts. There are also over 1,000 full color pictures of the critters which are of the National Geographic quality of photos, its almost like being there next to them. The book is broken into sections by animal, there are mammals, birds, invertebrates, reptiles, amphibians and fish. What I find interesting about this book is that it’s the perfect table top book. Kids and adults alike like to flip through it, or pick out their favorite animals and read a quick snippet of information about them, or just flip to a random page and check out the animal. Not only is this a nice table top book, but it would also fit perfectly on that book shelf in your kid’s room, [Read more…]
