Family camping tips for first-timers

Every family has a different idea of what a camping vacation should be. For some, it’s all about
trekking into the wilderness and enjoying the simplicity of life with just the bare essentials. For
others, staying at a serviced campsite might just be a cheap way of having a holiday somewhere
new. Either way, making a tent your home-away-from-home can be great fun.

If it’s your first time camping as a family, you’ll probably want to choose a campsite rather than
roughing it in the wilds. Facilities vary widely so it pays to do a little research before you book. Most
sites have basic toilet and shower facilities but many go much further and offer electrical hook-
ups and even wireless internet. Some allow open fires or will have BBQs for campers to use. Others
might require campers to bring their own portable stoves.

For families with children who are old enough to be safe around them, picking a campsite that
allows open fires adds a little extra fun. Keep the flames low and contained- it’s safer and better for
cooking this way- and a good campfire will give you something to gather around in the evenings. You
can warm your hands and enjoy each other’s company and conversation. Ghost stories are optional!

Getting the kids to help prepare the evening meal over a fire will give them interesting something
to do after dark but on the other hand, parents with infants might prefer a no-fires campsite for
safety reasons. It is quite possible to cook a family meal on a gas camping stove. Although toasting
marshmallows over a gas burner just isn’t the same, stoves are [Read more…]

Top Dreamy Summer Travel Destinations

During the spring time I like to dream a little about what places I would travel and the outfits I would
wear there if budget was not an issue. Would I head to Scotland and view the castles? Or would I
head back to Paris, France, and explore the rest of the Louvre? With so many places to explore, the
travel destinations are limitless. If I do get to go to one of my favored travel destinations, there’s no
doubt I’ll be dressing fashionably. Plus – I plan on saving some money with coupons, of course.

Paris, France

Since I haven’t been to Paris, France since I was 16 years old, I’m sure things have changed since
then! Plus, who doesn’t want to go to Paris? I’d love to go back to this historic and beautiful place,
and surround myself with their culture and history. In particular I’d love to visit the palace, which
has rich history that spans from the medieval period all the way until now. I’d also love to walk in the
Tuileries gardens, which I’m sure are no doubt stunning. And of course I’d love to shop there again –
so many wonderful places to explore!
Cottage Country in Eastern Canada

I’ve never been to Canada, hence why the cottage country sounds beyond lovely. Apparently this
country covers any lake destination and it is easy to drive to for a weekend getaway. Surrounded by
miles of shoreline and 17 historic towns and villages, I can only imagine how beautiful this area must
be. Plus – you’ll find many waterfalls there as well! I’d also love to explore the Riverwalk and the
shops of Canada’s waterfall capital, Bracebridge. Sounds Beautiful!

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

And just for the sake of staying in the United States, I think I would love to head to South Carolina.
For one, my friend lives there and I haven’t seen her since High School. Another reason? I’d love to
visit the new 55-acre Hard Rock Park, which is quoted as the “world’s first rock ‘n’ roll theme park.
It’s in Myrtle Beach and has nightly fireworks set to the Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Plus – I’ve
read that the hotels are offering great discounts on their suites! Sounds like fun to me.

There are many other locations I’d love to visit and a girl can dream, can’t she? For now I’d be happy
to just go to one of these destinations during the summer time – if I can convince my boyfriend to go
with me. But that shouldn’t be very hard to do. Whatever summer adventures take place for me, I’m
sure they will be dreamy and well worth the wait!

More to Munich than Beer

When considering heading for Munich, compare car hire deals and pick up a great motor to
suit your purpose before hitting the road for one of Europe’s premier cultural destinations.

Munich is the capital of Bavaria, and only half-jokingly referred to as Germany’s secret
capital. It lies almost in the dead centre of Europe and has over the centuries overshadowed
its often very powerful neighbouring cities such as Nuremberg, Augsburg and Ingolstadt. It
is now the main metropolis in the south of Germany and is easily reached on that country’s
excellent autobahns by simply following the signs.

In fact, it’s difficult once on the road to avoid getting sucked in to its wealth of great old
buildings, cosmopolitan atmosphere, vibrant nightlife and brilliant monuments and museums,
not to mention some of the finest beers in the world.

Munich has for centuries been a centre for the arts, and throughout the Baroque and Rococo
periods fantastic masterpieces were created here, the rival of anything coming out of Italy
and France at the time.

A fresh, Neo-Classical style took over during the 19th century and it became known as
Athens on Isar. The Greek and Roman sculptures collected by King Ludwig I that can still
be seen on Konigsplatz and Ludwigstrasse, and in the Glyptothek, bear witness to the
architectural mood of the times which dominated not just Germany but the whole of Europe.
The Munich Academy of Fine Arts was renowned in the 19th century as being one of the
finest art schools in Europe, and the opera houses, theatres and museums to be found
in Munich today take some beating. This is a city so devoted to art [Read more…]

Guest Post- Finding Fun Tropical Hotels

Travelers don’t have to leave the country in order to find some of the very best tropical resorts and hotels in the entire world. Many of these locations are in the continental United States, although there are those that are situated on island owned and governed by the U.S. Regardless, a travel does not need their passports in order to reach these different hotels, but it is wise to book ahead, as many of these tropical hotels do tend to book up quickly.

Grande Colonial Hotel La Jolla

Daycation at the Strasburg Railroad

Does your little one (or big one, or husband?) love trains as much as mine does? If they do, then you will want to make sure that at some point, you take the time to visit the Strasburg Railroad.
Recognized as one of the most significant historic railroads in the USA, the Strasburg Railroad has acquired historic trains from all over the country, and recently celebrated operating for 50 years as a tourist railroad.

It is in a beautiful location, with lovely views and rolling landscapes. You will feel as though you stepped back in time from the minute you arrive- from the sharply dressed conductors and train operators, to the ticket sales window where you will purchase your passes (choose from open air or closed cars), you and your family will love the historic railroad experience. (Don’t tell the kids they may learn something!)

As you ride the beautifully restored trains through Amish country, learning about steam railroading, agriculture, Amish culture and Pennsylvania Dutch heritage, enjoy your family and your little ones, and let worries slip away. They are little for only so long, and riding in a “real” train is going [Read more…]
