World Oceans Day at the New York Aquarium

pic10

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), which conducts conservation projects throughout the world’s oceans, proudly supports World Oceans Day on June 8th, an event now officially recognized by the United Nations.

World Oceans Day, organized by the Ocean Project with support from WCS and other groups, comes as a sweeping new national survey reveals that Americans are concerned about the health of the ocean and are ready to take personal action to make a difference. The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) has been hard at work to make that difference.

The concept for World Oceans Day was proposed in 1992 by the Government of Canada at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, and it had been unofficially celebrated every year since then.

Official designation by the U.N. is a significant step in conserving and protecting our world’s oceans. WCS develops and implements innova¬tive solutions to the most challenging threats facing priority Coral Reef Seascapes and Ocean Giants through research, capacity building of local individuals and organizations, and policy action. WCS maintains a long-term commitment to priority species and sites in 15 countries worldwide, recognizing that true conservation requires sustained on-the-ground efforts over decades.

Luggage, the good kind- Win A Family Trip For Four to LA or DC

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Atlantic Luggage for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Luggage comes in many varieties including conceptual luggage like emotional and familiar.  But of all this luggage one of the most fun is luggage for traveling.  Lets learn about a new piece of luggage and a new contest.

First up the luggage, take a look at this before we continue.  The video describes the new Link2Go system which connect two pieces of luggage together in such a  way that they can both be controlled with one hand, rolling easily.  This new system is used in one of Atlantic Luggage‘s  newest luggage line the Compass®Unite Debut®.

The way the two pieces of luggage connect is through Velcro straps which strap the pieces together into one rolling luggage with a handle coming out of either bag for rolling around.  In addition to the Link2Go system this luggage also sports: 360-degree 4-Wheel Spinners,  Durable crash-guard wheel housings, skid bars and corner guards,  Built-in zippered wet pocket,  Adjustable interior hold-down straps,  Removable hanging laundry or shoe bag,  Locking retractable handle has two stops at 38” and 41”, providing a comfortable grip for users of different heights,  Integrated accessory clip on top carry handle, and a 10 Year Limited Warranty.

mr dad seal

Do you know of a great product or service that encourages dads and their children to spend more time together?

If so, the MrDad.com team wants to hear about it!

As one of the leading websites promoting positive parenting for dads, we’re pleased to announce that submissions are still open for the Father’s Day 2014 Mr. Dad Seal of Approval.

But hurry. As you can imagine, Father’s Day is kind of like our Christmas (although we have Christmas awards too), and we’re already receiving lots of entries. The deadline for submissions is May 26, 2014. We’ll announce the winners the week of June 2. You can find out more and submit your products at http://www.mrdad.com/seal/

Next to “I love you, Daddy,” some of the sweetest words a father can hear are, “Hey Dad, can we play that again?” But it’s not always easy to find toys, games, and activities that have the “play-it-again” factor. That’s why we created the Mr. Dad Seal of Approval: to help dads (and those who love them) identify top-quality, fun products and services that will help them and their children stay connected at every age. Each Seal recipient has been field tested by other dads to ensure that it truly accomplishes that goal.

My Living Room – a Place Like No Other

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Cambria Estate Winery for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

There are many places all around that are special to us.  Either far away or close by these places are like no other.  One such place is our home, it is a special place for our family and friends.  It is neutral and light hearted place where friends get together for good times and good drinks.  Often times wine and other beverages.  These get togethers are usually interesting dinners where either there is a theme or just a excuse for a good meal.  Themes include specific areas of the world, like India or Mexico.  Even just a flavor or ingredient.  Every dinner is a good one, filled with laughing and relieving stress.  Each dinner is also a BYOB, so everyone brings something and everyone shares.  Some bring wine, others beer, some even bring hard liquor.  No one is left out even the non-drinkers of the crowd bring fun snacks or desserts.  Our home is not the only place like no other there are quite a few of these unique places..  One such is in Santa Maria, CA located in Santa Barbara wine country.    Santa Maria is best known for its Barbeque, theatre and of course its wine.  There is another unique place like no other in Santa Maria called Cambria Estate Winery®.  Cambria’s unique wines are some of the best around and a pleasure to taste.  As you try each of Cambria’s hand-crafted wines its like taking a trip to a place like no other.

BELLA Turn It On Sweepstakes

What would you do in 8 hours for you?  This is the question Bella is asking.  What kind of fun could you do while dinner is cooking in the slow cooker?  Instead of slaving over the stove for hours on end what would you rather be doing?  Sky diving, go-karting, maybe just swimming or lounging?  With this answer you could win yourself and a friend/family member a Turn It On day, on Bella.
This sweepstakes is perfect for the upcoming holiday, Mother’s Day.  What better way to say I love you to mom then with a day at the spa or sky diving?
The contest works like this, all you have to do is submit a pin to Bella Life’s “Turn It On” pinterest board. The pin should be inspirational of what you would do in 8 hours?  As long as the activity can actually be done local and in 8 hours its do-able.  Official rules are available of course. So be sure to check those out.  Also be sure to enter soon because the sweepstakes only runs until May 12th!

How to Get Your Kids to Eat Their Fruits and Veggies

Getting your kids to eat their veggies isn’t always as easy as it should be. Some children decide that they don’t want to eat their greens, simply because they’re told by TV shows, books, and movies that they’re not supposed to like them. Others simply don’t find the taste or texture appealing. However, as a parent you feel it’s your duty to get your children to eat vegetables. Luckily, there are some great ways to go about this task.

1. Play With Colors

Kids like to have fun and interesting colors around them. One great option is to use the colors of the fruits and vegetables to get kids eating. Instead of giving them the same color all the time – for example, only offering cucumbers or celery which are both green – consider adding in carrots or red bell peppers. This will give the children a variety of options, and they can pick which is their favorite color of vegetable.

2. Make it Fun

Doctors and nursing leaders suggest that four and five-year olds are supposed to have about two cups of vegetables per day. This can be difficult if you’re dealing with a picky eater. However, if you make it fun, they’re going to be more likely to choose veggies as their snack. Come up with interesting, silly names for different vegetables. Broccoli can become baby trees, allowing you to pretend with your child that they’re giants. The more fun you make the food, the more likely they are to eat it and enjoy it.
