Ford CMax Hybrid- Save on Gas, Save Money #DriveOnEnergi #ILoveEVS

The new Ford C Max makes you a master of the road.  With tight steering and many safety features like the SOS post crash alert system and seven standard airbags, its easy to take for granted that the CMax is a hybrid. As cars go, you are actually doing a good thing by driving it every day- better then driving a regular car, anyway.  The CMax is one of the 10 most fuel efficient cars under $25,000 in 2016. (There are rain sensing wipers available as well, one of the many upgrades available. Fun things to think about.)

hybrid cars

The SmartGauge with EcoGuide helps drive and use your vehicle as fuel efficiently as possible.  To begin with, the car sips fuel.  The CMax also sports regenerative braking and brake coach.  This not only helps it to stop when you want it to, but also to do so in the most efficient way possible.  It saves fuel by conserving momentum while also charging up the batteries a bit as well.

There are a lot of settings and readings which you might not be used to having in other vehicles, but once you learn how to read them all and understand what they are saying to you, you will learn quite a bit about your vehicle and driving style.  To this point, you will actually drive differently to try to beat your previous score if you are the competitive type.  It sounds very game-like but its actually fun in an odd way.  This is also a good way to pass time while doing a long haul road trip.  What we like best about the CMax is that its a nice car with a smooth ride, and its fuel efficiency is difficult to beat. I also like that it is better for the environment- and yes, it drives like a “regular car”, and is still “built Ford tough”, LOL.

It’s super easy to charge as well, and there are apps you can use to keep track of where charging stations are along your route and in your area.

The Ford CMax is available now at a dealer near you, so be sure to check one out today.  Your wallet (and the environment) will thank you.

(And it does just as well as the “luxury” vehicles and SUVs when it comes to wintry roads and unpaved situations- no problems at all.)  You can follow along on twitter with our handle @HaveSippy using the hashtags #DriveOnEnergi #ILoveEVS to see what else we are up to. Travel on.

How to Get Around in Barcelona

There are few cities in the world that have as much personality as Barcelona. The city has so much character and so many unique qualities that it is impossible to confuse Barcelona with any other European city. If you have never been, it is hard to comprehend how so much history, charm and beauty can fit into one area, but anyone who has spent time in the city can speak to the unique and unforgettable feeling of touring Barcelona.

Finding Your Way

The second-largest city in Spain, Barcelona can be difficult to navigate for those who are unfamiliar with it. The numerous streets, paths, bus lines, train tracks and various other methods of transports can be overwhelming when first viewed. Especially if you do not speak the language, a travel map of Barcelona can look more like a confusing piece of abstract art than an actual guide.

However, once you spend a little time familiarizing yourself with the system, it becomes clear that Barcelona has one of the more efficient systems of public transportation in all of Europe. It may not always be simple, but once you have mapped out your routes, bought your tickets and planned your tour of the city, you can spend less time worrying about getting around Barcelona and more time taking in the wonderful experience it provides.

Driving in Barcelona

Unlike other European cities that have a few major attractions concentrated into one urban area, Barcelona offers a wider variety of things to see in a larger area. This means more opportunity for independent exploration instead of confined, guided tours. It also means that tourists– especially Americans– will feel the need to rent their own car upon arrival.

Your own car will allow you to reach areas outside the city proper, and it may provide you with more control over your travel. However, it can actually be a hinderance to you inside the city. Traffic in Barcelona can be a nightmare at times, and it is notoriously harsh on newcomers. If you do have your own car, you will almost always be better off parking it immediately upon reaching the city and then taking advantage of the various public transportation options.

Trains

The train system in Barcelona can seem overly complex at first glance. The Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) and Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) are the two organizations which provide public transport in the city, and the Rodalies serve the entire metropolitan area. There are 27 train stations within the city, and millions of people use them every year.

The easiest way to simplify your train travel is to purchase an Hola BCN ticket which will allow unlimited travel on all train lines for a specified period. These tickets can be purchased for periods of between two and five days and eliminate most of the hassle from travel. Another option for tourists is the Barcelona Card which allows for unlimited public transportation as well as several discounts and other vacation benefits.

Taxis

“The taxis in Barcelona are much more affordable than other European cities,” says one travel expert from BookTaxiBCN. These will often provide a more reliable, personalized travel method, but you should order your car in advance. Unlike some major cities, it is difficult (and frustrating) to hail a cab inside the city, but they can be procured at stands, online or by phone.

Other Options

Buses and trams can also be good options for travel inside the city, but the routes can be confusing. You can get a map at any station and most stores, and then plan your route in advance using the color-coded system. Bicycles, mopeds and scooters can also be rented and provide a more open, independent technique for exploration in Barcelona.

New Games and Gaming Devices You Will Love

Looking for some fun games to play with the kids? We have some suggestions.

Mario Kart is one of those games which turn a room full of strangers into a room full of new buddies- or at least rowdy racers.  With equal parts skill, luck, and know how, Mario Kart has consistently been a gem of this gaming’s generation.  The latest in the franchise, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, dare I say may be the brightest gem so far.  With almost all characters unlocked to begin with, this game is built for multiplayer.  As the new Switch will show you, it is easy to grab a controller and play.  Each player takes the mini controller for their racer and plays.

With tons of characters to choose from, everyone can pick their favorite without arguments.  Characters of different wights and sizes act differently and effect your controls, as do the type of vehicle and even the tires selected.  The game also includes support for amiibo’s and amiibo cards, which unlock more content in game, allowing for even more customization. Mario Kart Deluxe 8 is available no for $59.99 from retail locations of via download fro the eShop.

We have two indie titles-  one for the 3DS and one for the Playstation 4. Fun, inexpensive, and most gamers will enjoy them and be able to play (no master skill sets required).

This is the third Box Boy game in the line, Bye Bye Box Boy , is a game where players use the power of boxes to solve various puzzles as Qbby.  This game is an enjoyable puzzle game which is simple to get into, but difficult to put down.  My 9 year old has loved every Box Boy game and this is no different, but now with a few additions like 4 new powers, baby boxes to rescue, and new environmental issues to contend with (like water, wind, and scales) there is more to do.  He enjoys the Box Boy series- it’s tough but not too tough for him to figure out after thinking about it and trying a few things, or in some cases, with some help from Dad.  Bye By Box Boy is available now on the eShop on the Nintendo 3DS and retails for $4.99.

cheap video games

Up next is a frenetic space racing game called Aaero.  In this game, you play the part of a lone ship racing along to the beat of various songs, each of which are loud thumping beats.  While racing along, you are attacked by various enemies who need some attention from your gun.  This game is fast paced and a blast to play.  Mostly, I have played it loudly and in short spurts, but can see how this game would be quite addicting.  The music is catchy, the level designs are gorgeous, and the levels are fun to play or sit back and watch someone else play.  Aaero is available now for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Steam.  So be sure to check it out on your platform of choice, turn up the speakers and enjoy.

The Zeiss VR One Plus is fun for you and the kids relax and unwind together, it’s a cool experiance. This headset device that you use with your phone offers hundreds of compatible app options that you can choose from. Anything you prefer- videos, news, gaming, virtually exploring far off places or hard to reach (perhaps even impossible) locations, all from your home. One of the coolest features is that it will fit any size head- yes, even your giant melon- and that you can wear it with glasses. That’s not always easy to find in a VR headset. We’ve all tried this out, and everyone has enjoyed it. It’s comfortable, light, and the apps are really a lot of fun to mess around with. Buy for around $129 at stores like Target or Best Buy.

For the arcade experience at home or on the go, check out the Mini Arcade Games now available.  These  scaled down, mini versions of classic games you might have played in actual arcades ( I KNOW! Kids these days….) have all the features you played, actual authentic game play and nostalgic appeal all in one tiny, handheld game. Now available are Q*Bert and Centipede and yes, they have special full color screens. Dodge obstacles and blast bad guys using the mini joystick and fire buttons and get in all your old-school gaming jollies. $19.99 at Walmart only.

Speaking of old school fun, check out the NES Classic Edition controllers from My Arcade. It works with the newly released edition of the classic Nintendo system, as well as with Wii and Wii U as an optional Classic Controller (with compatible games). You can play from as far as 30 feet away, and for more then 75 hours with 2 (not included) AAA batteries. Designed for better grip, it also seems a little smaller and lighter to me. No wires need on this bad boy! Available for about $20 from Amazon and other sites.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch

mario kart 8

The game runs at 1080p, and the graphics are spot on- levels pop with textures and colors, with characters smoothly running along the tracks.  Every track from the Wii U version of the game is included, including DLC, which makes a glorious return. Plus, the Inklings appear as all-new guest characters, along with returning favorites, such as King Boo, Dry Bones, and Bowser Jr.  My personal favorite is green Shy guy, because he reminds me of Christmas., followed very closely by Dry Bones.  My son favors likes Link or Yoshi.

With tons of characters to choose from, everyone can pick their favorite without arguments.  Characters of different wights and sizes act differently and effect your controls, as do the type of vehicle and even the tires selected. Every track has character and originality, never facing two of the same type in a row.  Some new and some classic from previous Mario Kart games, but updated for 8 Deluxe.  The game also includes support for amiibo’s and amiibo cards, which unlock more content in game, allowing for even more customization.  Most of these options come in the form of the outfit for your Mii to use in race,  which are all cool to see and even more fun to use.

Why Renting A Single Family Home Is Starting To Make Sense

If you are looking for a new rental with a bit more space than the apartment or condo that you are currently renting, it is a very good time to consider looking at a single family residence as an option. Many of the homes that were distressed during the housing market meltdown 10 years ago were purchased by professional home management companies. They remodeled and upgraded the homes and put them on the rental market, making the rental price of single family homes quite competitive in many metropolitan markets.

Here are some other good reasons to look at moving to a rental home when you make your next move:

Amenities have been upgraded:

For many people, the first experience with rental homes is when they are in college. Many of the homes are pretty bare and contain fixtures, woodworking, and carpeting that is either industrial or a few decades out of style.

With a larger number of rental homes to choose from, construction companies have focused on creating living environments that people will want to remain in. It isn’t uncommon, therefore, to find granite countertops and state of the art gourmet cooktops along with the latest appliances and modern storage.

In addition, because yard upkeep often comes with the home, several management companies have created yard space that you can entertain in without having to do that much to maintain it.

Ownership is a possibility:

Blackstone’s Invitation Homes, a privately held company that has almost 50,000 homes for rent nationwide has mentioned that it is likely that they will begin to offer incentives for renters that are interested in home ownership to start saving to purchase the home that they are renting.

That type of arrangement is designed to appeal to people that may not be ready to purchase a home yet, but are on track to put a down payment down within a few years. The nice thing about exercising a rent-to-own option with Invitation Homes or any other firm is that if you have rented from them for a while, the time that you have spent in the home will help qualify you to purchase the home when you go to get financing.

In some cases, financing is even available through the company that you lease from.

Security arrangements can be better:

A lot has changed in personal security over the past 10 years. Advances in radar and sonic systems have allowed people to sense through your apartment walls to detect movement. For thieves, that has made it easier to tell when someone is not in their apartment. The problem is that because your apartment is not your physical space completely, you have limited options when it comes to putting in a security system that can ensure that your valuables are safe.

Worse, although private cameras are not allowed in apartment buildings when they are pointed at public areas, some renters have installed cameras that do point at public areas and have networked them on the internet. In some respects, they are using the ‘Internet of things’ to make their location useful for anyone with access to their network to watch your hallway or building grounds. This has led to an increase in the number of instances where other renters actively track people who live in a building that has cameras that are part of the network.

And although your owner may be oblivious to this, it certainly isn’t the same type of solid living environment in some neighborhoods that you thought it would be.

When you have your own home, you can protect it with security cameras. If someone in your neighborhood has a camera pointed at your home illegally, you can ask them to remove it or call the police so that they can talk to them and let them know that it is not legal for them to stake out your home.

Moving up to a larger place as part of your next move is an exciting time. Because there are now quite a few rental homes that can compete with rental apartments and condominiums, it makes sense to include them in your comparison planning. You will likely find that they now represent a historic opportunity.

Reasons Why You Should Consider Professional Movers

If you have ever moved before, you know just how stressful the whole experience can be. Add in children, a long-distance move and a very short timeframe for packing and stress levels can skyrocket even more. Perhaps you have tried doing the packing before and have hired a rental truck for past moves. While a do-it-yourself mentality can work for some moves, consider these times when you should really invest in the peace of mind and ease that professional movers can bring.

When You Have Expensive Pieces
If you own expensive rugs, artwork or vintage pieces, you will definitely want to invest in professional movers. High-quality movers always offer some type of insurance and may offer increased insurance for these types of expensive pieces. Never agree to hire movers that do not offer insurance. If you are trying to trim costs, consider doing the majority of the move yourself, but hire specialty movers for certain pieces, such as a grand piano or an antique car.

When You Have Very Bulky or Heavy Furniture
No one enjoys lugging around enormously heavy leather couches, sectionals, king-size mattresses or sleeper sofas on a hot summer day, and they certainly do not want to be sliding down your icy sidewalk with them in the winter. Save yourself and your loved ones from the hassle of moving large households with heavy items by hiring professional movers. Professional movers have the equipment needed to move everything from enormous dressers to appliances with ease. Remember that you could be partially responsible if one of your friends or relatives were to injure themselves on your property.

When You Need a Period of Storage
If you need to get out of you home now but are not able to move into your new home for a few weeks or months, you will need to look into a storage unit for your belongings. While you may be able to find a storage unit yourself, professional movers will keep your stress to a minimum by storing your items securely for you in a full truck or storage pod until you are ready for delivery. This way, you will not have to worry about loading and unloading your belongings twice.

When You Are Moving Long-Distance
Long-distance moves can be fraught with problems, such as finding driving routes and understanding interstate laws for driving trucks and moving belongings. Even more problems crop up if you have a very large household and would need to take several trips back and forth in a rental truck. Sometimes, professional movers are actually friendlier to your budget in these cases than a do-it-yourself attitude would be. In addition, your moving company will get you in touch with local movers, such as Miami movers if you are moving to southern Florida, who will work with you at your new house.

When You Do Not Have the Time to Pack
Most professional movers offer packing services to those who need them. They can pack all, none or some of your belongings. If you do not have the ability to take time off work to pack or need to move within a tight timeframe, this can be a godsend. Simply set aside items that you do not want them to pack in the truck in one room. The movers will pack room by room, making it easy for you to unpack in your new home. In fact, they can even be paid to unpack for you if you need this service. If you do not have time to do all your packing but cannot budget packing for the entire house, consider setting aside items that are difficult to pack, such as fragile items, bulky items and pots and pans, for the movers.

Sometimes, you should not go through a move alone. With reputable professional movers by your side, you can be sure that your pieces will arrive without dents and that if they are ruined for some reason, you will be reimbursed. Moreover, knowing that you can have movers do as much or as little as you want can open up possibilities for you that may mesh with a stressful or hectic lifestyle.

A simple guide to traveling with children

Having kids shouldn’t stop anybody from traveling. In fact, it should inspire you to travel more. Giving your children the experience of seeing the world is invaluable in their memories. If you’re lucky enough to be able to do so, you should!

However, as with anything you do with your children, safety is always a priority. Ensuring your children are safe while exploring a new city may be anxiety inducing. With these simple tips, you should be able to put your fears at ease and enjoy the experience.

It’s unrealistic to think that you need to plan everything down to the smallest detail. Micro managing is no fun. You don’t need to work out your airport parking two months ahead of time. Enjoy a little spontaneity; just be prepared along the way.

It’s important to consider where in the world you’re going. Some places aren’t child appropriate. And that’s okay! There are just as many places around the world that are perfect for kids. Consider the age of your children, what activities you’re intending to do and how easy the place will be to navigate – dependant on your kids and their needs. This is easy. You know your children and you know what they need to be happy while away.

Accidents can happen anywhere. That’s why it’s important to have a plan in case things do go wrong. Ensure you have comprehensive travel insurance. Make sure that your children know what to do if they get lost. That includes having phone numbers to call, and possible tracking on their mobiles (if they have one).

Teach your children about appropriateness for when you travel. Is the country you’re visiting specific in their customs? Do they have a heavy emphasis on respect? Ensure you adopt the “when in Rome” attitude and make sure your kids are aware of this.

Keep all important documents on you at all times. Have photos of your children ready on your mobile and hard copies too. In some countries you should always keep your passport on your person. Keep yourself safe by being prepared for the worst case scenario. Chances are, nothing bad is going to happen. But it’s better to be prepared, you could save yourself a lot of trouble.

There’s a tonne of information available online that will help you prepare for your family holiday. The better prepared you are, the more relaxed you will be and the better experience you will all have. These experiences will be treasured by your kids for the rest of their lives. Enjoy it!
