Home Remedies for Itchy Dandruff While Traveling

Dandruff is not a disease; it is a scalp disorder, which can be treated even at home without having to spend a fortune on shampoos and gels. Imagine wearing that lovely black gown for the dinner party only to be covered with snow flakes on your shoulders. Or, ready for your interview in perfect formals with that jet black blazer on and you find white flakes on your collar and shoulder line. Dandruff can ruin the impression that you can make and hamper your self-confidence.

Mentioned below are some dandruff home remedies, which you can try even when you are very busy and traveling:

  • Coconut oil

If you have problem with dandruff, make sure that you carry a small bottle of coconut oil while you are traveling. Coconut oil has excellent anti-fungal properties and hence it can treat the problem of dandruff successfully. Moreover, it moisturizes the dry scalp and provides required nutrition to the scalp too. When the scalp is moisturized, there are no chances of itching and dandruff.

Take a lemon and cut it into half. Take some coconut oil and add juice of half the lemon into it. Mix them well and apply the same to the scalp thoroughly followed by massaging. Keep the oil on the hair for minimum 20 minutes and then wash it off with water or mild shampoo. Repeat this process 2-3 times a week and see the great results.

  • Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil is among the most important and commonly found essential oils in any home. Tea tree oil is rich in anti-fungal and anti-acne attributes and thus it can play an active role in eliminating dandruff from the scalp. Bacterial infections can also be combated with the help of this essential oil.

In the shampoo that you use, add 1-2 drops of tea tree oil and wash the hair with the same. Massage the scalp gently while shampooing so that the oil penetrates the scalp and treats the problem of dandruff. Visible results are seen within a few days without the need of doing much.

  • Aspirin tablets

Treating the problem of dandruff while traveling is definitely challenging. Interesting and true, aspirin tablets can come to the rescue in such situations. This is because aspirin contains an active ingredient called salicyclic acid, which is commonly used in many medicated shampoos and other medicated hair care products.

To keep dandruff under control, take two aspirin tablets and crush them into fine powder. Now add this powder to the normal amount of shampoo that you use for washing your tresses. Let the shampoo containing the powdered aspirin tablets stay for 1-2 minutes. Rinse hair with plain water and wash again with normal shampoo for best results.

  • Mouthwash

When you are traveling, you are sure to have a mouthwash in your bag. It helps in keeping the mouth fresh and germ-free. But did you know that mouthwash could help in treating the problem of dandruff? In fact, this ingredient can help in dealing with the most stubborn dandruff successfully.

Use regular shampoo for washing your hair. Now rinse the hair and the scalp thoroughly with an alcohol-based mouthwash. Once done, use the regular conditioner for your hair and you are done. Usually mouthwashes have anti-fungal properties for fighting microbes inside the mouth. This ingredient prevents dandruff-causing yeast from growing on the scalp and prevents the problem of dandruff completely.

All the above mentioned ingredients are readily available and can be used without any problems. Moreover, they are all organic items and have no harmful side effects.

2017 Toy Trends #NYTF

Every year at about this time, every toy, game, collectible, indoor or outdoor plaything (and more) is brought to make it’s debut at the New York Toy Fair. We go to see what is new, what’s up and coming, to see what is still holding our attention and what are up and coming toy trends. This year, we’ve noticed a few repeats, as well as some interesting new products we think you will be seeing a lot of.

Toys from last year, updated w new shineys. Some of your favorite toys from last year are back again and remade for 2017 with new bells and whistles, or upgraded and updated. As we all know, sometimes the first iteration doesn’t always turn out exactly right. Try, try again- and some of the differences are fantastic.

What’s old is new again- retro is still in, and back in style. The toys of yesteryear looking just as they did when we were kids (or grandma and grandpa were) made for our kids. Only, you know- safer then they were, in some cases.

Custom built. Kids these days. The “Me” generation, the “selfie” generation- they want to express themselves, and so they will. So many toys, apps, even electronics are customizable or can be personalized. Not just with a name or initials, added, either- kids can really make toys their own right now, to varying degrees.

Food decorating toys, or toys that come in the shape of foods. From dolls to teddy bears to real food decorating kits to jewelry- our eyes are bigger then our stomachs this year, and thank goodness. Between the success of toys like Shopkins and TV shows like MasterChef Jr and Man vs Child, kids are allowed and even encouraged to play with their food. You can make your own foodie toys and designs to wear, or snuggle up with your favorite muffin or cake at night. Some scented, some not so much. With or without glitter- and don’t eat the bears.

Everybody wants to be a Pinterest star- the kids are getting in on it with all the DIY kits that help them lean to make bath bombs, loom kits, sewing, jewelry making, and more. These are NOT the kits that we had when we were kids, that our moms would wear in front of us because they loved us or displayed just because their child made them- they look like things Martha Stewert would have in her magazine, but easy enough for kids to do them. Trust me- I tried a few, and if I could handle it, any 9 year old can. No skills here, sorry folks. My kids outpace me in this aspect easily, so this is honesty talking to you right here.

Everything gets a tail- dolls, foods, your tablet- and if it already had a tail (like, say, a cat) it will get a different one. Usually a mermaid or shark tail replacement. What cat WOULD’T love an ocean swim, amiright? Get yourself and the kiddos one as well with tubes, sleeping bags, and/or sewing kits. People get tails too, equal rights after all.

To continue with the adult coloring- and yes, we are going to- add also to that adult plus kid inter-coloring. I don’t care if that’s not a word, it’s a “thing”. Bigger books or larger sheets that parents and kids can do together, or multiple kids at once. Sharing is caring, after all. This is more involved coloring. Get out the glitter markers.

Coding also continues, and expands. There are apps abound, more toys then we could see in 4 days, more in depth coding as well as pre-coding or games for kids as young as 18 months. Might as well get out in front of this one, and these toys and apps make learning coding fun and easier. I wish I had them when I was younger, I’m a mess. Again, the kids will outpace me any day now. Perhaps I can start myself with some of the “coding light” options.

Underwater/mermaids/sea creatures are everywhere.  Stuffed animals, art kits, every kind of toy. Apparently, we all want to live under the sea. Life on land has gotten far too complicated.

Narhwahls. These sea creatures (see above) just keep swimming into our hearts and minds, as well as onto shelves of toy stores near you. They are coming. In droves. Known as the “unicorn of the sea”, narwhals are pale-colored porpoises that swim in Arctic waters. The coolest thing about them, besides the water they swim in, is the ivory tusk (actually a tooth) that grows through it’s lip. Alas, what makes it awesome also makes it hunted- it’s hard to be amazing. People can’t deal with coolness, they get jealous. Pale shades aside, these come in all colors and toy options. Especially redonkulas ones.

VR headsets/games/apps. Nearly every science brand has one, and some other what I will refer to as “super brands” as well. You buy the VR (virtual reality) headset, and the app is usually free with that purchase. Experience dinosaurs, racecars, underwater sea swimming (ahem) and more. Some drones also come with headset options so you can see what your drone is doing in real time as if you were flying on it. Very cool.

VR headset

Blind packs continue to be a big deal- most brands have them, hope you are lucky enough to get all the cool stuff and stop getting all the random doubles that are in those bags because you are looking for the elusive whatdoyoucallit!!! From LEGOs (in a million varieties) to TsumTsum to CareBears to YoKai Watch disks and everything in between- everyone has a blind bag for you. Yeah, these aren’t going away, sorry mom and dad- but at least they aren’t expensive.

More racial diversity, features, disabilities are being represented in toys this year. Huzzah for humanity! Different skin tones, features (not just putting darker skin on a doll, etc), crutches, hair textures, and more are rolling out bit by bit- even very “traditional” companies are starting to be more inclusive, and we are excited to see that. Some (very few) even have dolls of different weights and chest sizes-  girls have enough pressure on them, it’s nice to see some more realistic options presented to them. Also, empowerment messaging on and in the packaging, as well as more women and people of color involved in the process then in the past. Again, a huzzah, and moving in the right direction.

Keychains/backpack hangers continue to be huge. I can’t even see backpack under all the fluffy stuffs- if you can, you won’t be able to for long. Here comes the deluge!

Escape the room toys and games continues to be a theme, just like the real life experiences one can have when you and your friends and family try to beat the clock and get out of a sticky situation. Card games in the “Clue” tradition, as well as some new ones that involve (play, plastic, not at all scary) handcuffs and timers to escape (and along this line of thought) join the mix. Fun for all ages- really.

Magic kits. There were a lot of them this year, and more options. I’ve never seen so many- so maybe The Carbonaro Effect is effective magic marketing.  Things that make you go “hmmmm”…..

minion toys

Toys with toilets. Everyone and everything has to go- even the Minions. From the largest, most mass produced brands to the smallest and most new to the market, potty humor is the thing.  Again. There is even a game where the loser is sprayed with (pretend) toilet water.  So, hit the bathroom, guys.

Drones with camera to phone capabilities/live video and gps. The drones have expanded this year- both in quantity and quality. So many more available, by your favorite brands as well as more adding them to their lines, and some newcomers.  However, some of these are so advanced I wonder how long that News Helicopter will really be necessary- some of these are insanely skilled. From still your kids can’t break to stuff teens and adults will have fun racing, there is a drone for everyone at every price range.

SoCozy Boo! Kids Hair Products #SoCozyHair #SplashHappy #SoCozyKid

School can be a scary place for kids.  With many other kids, new faces, and high expectations, there is one thing kids shouldn’t be afraid of at school- and that is bugs.  One such menace that plagues schools is lice.  When an outbreak hits, every parent in school knows it and its a mad dash to keep them from spreading to your child and bringing them home.  Preventative measures help, but what can a parent use to keep these nasties away from your kids? Why not scare them away with the Boo! line of lice scaring hair products from SoCozy?  These products (as with all the rest of SoCozy’s products) are safe and effective, completely non toxic, and are made without parabens, formaldehyde, sulfates, phthalates, synthetic color, propylene glycol. Free of alcohol, gluten, wheat, peanuts and tree nuts.

There are three lice scaring products- one is a spray, one a shampoo, and one a conditioner.  Each of them is made to keep lice away from your kids and out of your home.  The shampoo and conditioner are used like any other while washing.  Rinse hair, lather up shampoo, and wash out.  The conditioner should be worked into the hair and scalp then left in for 30 seconds then rinsed out.  The final spray will is to be sprayed on wet or dry hair.  Each product should be used daily to keep up the protection.  Our little guy’s school has had a few lice scares and has been able to scare them away each time thankfully (knock on wood).

There is also a contest going on right now through SoCozy.  Anyone who purchases any of their products at Target, CVS & Walgreens From Jan 9th – Feb 13th can enter. Win $25 Gift Card, Pfizer Products, and 20th Century Fox Movies

This post has been sponsored by Pfizer Consumer Healthcare and 20th Century Fox. All thoughts and reviews are my own.

Sick days stink, for adults or kids. Well, especially for kids.  Kids don’t understand really that with time, some medicine, and rest, they will feel better.  We all remember growing up the odd sick day here or there, being taken care of by Mom or Dad, and the simple things that made us feel better.  Of course, we could all use a few extra tips and tricks.  There are some tricks I have found with our little guy.

kids cold medicine

  1. Baby him- he’s sick and is acting like it.  Give them some extra attention and care during this sensitive time. Yes, they can be annoying. This too shall pass.
  2. Sleep-  even if you have to get them to lay down on the couch in front of the TV with their favorite movie, rest is key.
  3. Liquids-  get them to drink lots of water to keep their body flushing out the bad stuff and cycling through to the good stuff that will fight off the germs.

One great way to keep your sick kid resting and feeling better is with a movie and the proper medicine.  20th Century Fox has some great kid friendly and adult friendly movies for these times including (Ice Age: Collision Course, The Sandlot, and The Peanuts Movie.  When pairing this with some pediatric Pfizer products, like Advil, Robitussin, and Dimetapp, your kid will be better before you know it.  With products for just about any symptom Pfizer is there to save the day and 20th Century Fox is there to distract and make giggles the emphasis instead of sniffles.

You can also get 10% off Pfizer Pediatric products and select 20th Century Fox DVDs (Ice Age: Collision Course, The Sandlot, The Peanuts Movie) at Target valid through February 20, 2017 through Cartwheel. Haven’t tried it? Now is the perfect time.

One of you can win a $25 Target gift card, Pfizer Pediatric products [Children’s Advil® Suspension, Grape, Children’s Robitussin® Cough & Chest Congestion, Children’s Dimetapp® Cough & Cold] and (1) 20th Century Fox DVD (such as Ice Age: Collision Course, The Sandlot, The Peanuts Movie) by entering the RC form below. “Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls” children’s book

great books for girls

“Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls” is a children’s book packed with bedtime stories about the life of 100 extraordinary women from the past and the present—from Queen Elizabeth I to Serena Williams, Frida Kahlo to Julia Child, Ruth Bader Ginsberg to Amelia Earhart—and illustrated by 60 female artists from all over the world.

Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo realized that 95% of the books and TV shows they grew up with, lacked girls in prominent positions. They did some research and discovered that this didn’t change much over the past 20 years, so they decided to do something about it.

Instead of waiting for their princes to come like the women in typical fairy tales, these game-changing women are influencing the world themselves.

Relocating from Milan, Italy to California, Elena Favilli had been working as a journalist and Francesca Cavallo as a stage director and playwright. Their entrepreneurial journey made them understand how important it is for girls to grow up surrounded by female role models. It helps them to be more confident and set bigger goals.

Favilli and Cavallo, co-founders of Timbuktu Labs and creators of the first iPad magazine for children, made crowdfunding history by attracting more dollars than any other children’s book. It has raised over $1 million from 20,000 backers through its Kickstarter campaign and Indiegogo InDemand book-ordering campaign.

The book, for ages 5 to 8, offers great source of inspiration for anyone, male or female, child or adult.

Favilli told The Huffington Post she felt encouraged to start the project after she wrote an op-ed for The Guardian about being a woman and a tech start-up founder in Silicon Valley and facing abuse online. “I decided that my next project would be something designed to empower young women,” she said.

“Gender stereotypes permeate every aspect of our culture,” Favilli said. “We constantly urge ourselves to ‘lean in’ and books on female empowerment proliferate on our shelves…but they come far too late. Parents are offered little resources to counter this trend and we want to do something about it.”

Argentina, the 2nd largest country of South America and the 8th largest country in the world is the country of the legend Lionel Messi. Despite the romantic lure of the Pampas and of huge Patagonian landscapes, Argentina is a largely urban country. The unique Argentinean culture separates the country from the rest of Latin America. Argentina has been home to multiple discoveries of gigantic dinosaurs.  Here’s a quick list to some amazing facts to explore about Argentina:

Spooky Fun in BADLAND

Badland is an award-winning game, and deservedly so. My young one first saw the captivating adventure on a friend’s tablet. Since then, he’s been playing on our home computer. In Badland, players control a bunch of mysterious winged creatures. They look silly, flap their arms to fly, and tumble along any path. Badland is definitely unique, and it’s definitely fun.

I should mention that Badland might be a bit too spooky for very young children (much like The BoxTrolls or Coraline). It’s not a haunting Halloween game, but it’s not as bright and cheery as Cut the Rope. Badland has stunningly pretty graphics, with a glowing sun that lights up a foggy, interesting world. Old trees are overgrown with alien-like flowers and oddly colored bushes. Withered branches hang from high above, occasionally covered in autumn leaves. The world in Badland is deeply imaginative, and it may provide a strong source of inspiration for our creative little ones.

Learning how to play Badland is easy. When gaming on a computer, simply click the main mouse button or press the “up” arrow key to fly. Every single movement stems from that one button. Flying, rolling, and climbing all happens by flapping your character’s arms.

Despite having easy-peasy controls, this game isn’t easy to beat. As we’ve come to expect from single-player games, each new level is harder to beat than the last. At the beginning of the game, your child might progress very quickly, spending no more than a minute or two on each level. After that, the landscapes get tougher to cross, with all sorts of new variables coming into play.

Most of the action in Badland involves interacting with Mother Nature. Players must fly above hills and glide through caves. Certain branches are in the way, but they can be pushed aside or bent. In more advanced levels, dubious traps challenge gamers. There are windmill-like blades that block paths, teeter-totter barriers, and dangerously large boulders. The sheer number of special obstacles and traps makes Badland much more than a standard arcade game. It often plays like a puzzler, daring players to think creatively to cross the forest.

Badland has realistic physics, meaning everything acts as it would in our world. No two games play the same way. There’s a randomness to the levels, in what you’ll encounter and how you can win. I find this to be one of the elements children like the most, because there’s no repetition. Every time they play, something new happens. In fact, many new things happen.

There are ways to shrink your flying character and grow to massive sizes. Depending on the level, you might need to be very tiny to squeak through an underground tunnel. Or, you might have to be huge to barrel through a cluster of rocks. Each of the 300 missions is different, and that’s a very good thing. Badland is free, it is wonderful, and it’s parent-approved. Have a go, and you could end up playing it just as much as your young ones do.
