TRAVEL TO SPACE FROM THE COMFORT OF YOUR LIVING ROOM @ExploreSpaceKSC #JoinTheJourney

Experience space as only NASA astronauts have before with the new, custom-designed Space Visor virtual reality headset and mobile applications available exclusively at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

Available for purchase at visitor complex gift shops and online at TheSpaceShop.com, the Space Visor transports users to a spacewalk outside the International Space Station (ISS), where they can explore inside and learn about each module, and then to the surface of the moon on a rocky lunar rover ride.  Other experiences include visits to restricted areas at the visitor complex such as the Gemini IX and Apollo 14 capsules and more. The headset can be used while at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and then from anywhere else a user might be.

“At Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex we create immersive space experiences for our visitors,” said Therrin Protze, chief operating officer, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. “The Space Visor is the next step to bring our guests an unparalleled experience at the height of current technology.”

The premium headset allows users to interact with three separate applications:

  • KSC 360 Expedition encompasses all parts of the visitor complex, and users are prompted to learn facts about each rocket in the Rocket Garden, gaze at space shuttle Atlantis as she floats in orbit, take a ride on the moon in a lunar rover at the Apollo/Saturn V Center and sit in the commander seat of the Mercury-Atlas 8, Gemini IX and Apollo 14 capsules.
  • Space Dreams explores the room of a space-inspired child to learn facts and figures about the solar system from galactic-themed décor including each planet, a Mars rover and a Mercury spacesuit.
  • Edge of Home allows guests to see the International Space Station like an astronaut; they will take part in an extravehicular activity, walk around the outside of the ISS while learning facts and figures about each module.

Delaware North, operators of Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, worked with Orlando-based VR technology partner, brandVR, to create content that is compelling and approachable for all audiences.

Indigenous and environmental activists will fight pipeline decisions

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the Trump administration approved construction of the controversial Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines.

Friends of the Earth President Erich Pica issued the following response:

Donald Trump has made it clear that his America does not include the millions of Americans who fought to protect our land, water, sacred cultural sites and climate from dangerous pipelines. Trump has emphatically pledged his allegiance to the oil companies and Wall Street banks that stand to profit from the destruction of public health and the environment.

The movement to defend Indigenous rights and keep fossil fuels in the ground is stronger than oil companies’ bottom line. Friends of the Earth and our allies will not give up the fight to stop Trump’s agenda and these destructive pipelines.

Background on the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines:

Keystone XL would carry 830,000 barrels of dirty tar sands oil daily from Alberta, Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, along with the risk of spills and environmental destruction. The pipeline would traverse across six states and through forests, rivers, and areas that support Indigenous populations, farmers, and ranchers. When rejecting Keystone XL, President Obama said the pipeline would neither improve the economy nor energy security, and that we must transition to a clean energy economy.

The 1,168-mile Dakota Access pipeline would carry up to 450,000 barrels of fracked crude oil per day from North Dakota to Illinois, cutting through communities, farms, sensitive natural areas, and under the Missouri River, threatening the drinking water and ancestral lands of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. For months, thousands of Water Protectors camped on the banks of the Missouri River in North Dakota in a historic display of resistance to the pipeline’s construction. Prior to leaving office, the Obama administration committed to an environmental review process to explore alternative routes for the pipeline.

EPA pollinator plan does not go far enough to protect bees

Friends of the Earth calls for agency to suspend bee-toxic pesticides

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released its final Policy to Mitigate the Acute Risk to Bees from Pesticide Products, which prohibits applications of acutely toxic pesticides under certain conditions when pollinators are present. The final policy is less stringent than the initial proposed policy in May 2015.

Tiffany Finck-Haynes, food futures campaigner at Friends of the Earth, issued the following response:

This policy fails pollinators. The science is clear—pesticides are killing bees, which are essential to food production and many ecosystems. Based on the growing body of science that has been published since EPA released its proposed policy, EPA should have strengthened not weakened this policy. This policy does not address the fact that many bee-toxic chemicals stay in our environment for months to years. If EPA is serious about protecting bees, the livelihood of beekeepers and our environment, the agency should take bee-toxic pesticides off the market.

5 Places you can get Sun in the USA Now

As winter has taken hold, many people consider travelling the world in search of a spot of winter sun. The blue skies, burning sun and time to relax can help to recharge the batteries during the winter months, especially at a time where the days are short and all there seems to be is darkness.

Winter sun can rejuvenate and help blow away the winter blues, therefore, the following five places in the USA will enable you to grab the winter sun that you need.

Miami and Key West

Miami and Key West is known for its subtropical climate. Wildlife from Northern US and Canada flock there to bask in the warm temperatures which can reach as high as 79F during the day during the winter months while dropping to 60F at night. For those who enjoy the sun during the day and a good nightlife, Miami has it all. Stunning beaches can be enjoyed in the comfort of the warm sun while Key West is the southernmost point in the US where the laid-back style of life accompanies the beautiful sunshine.

Orlando

Orlando is known to the playground of Florida as it is home to the likes of Disney Land and Universal Studios. However, during the summer months the heat can be almost unbearable as well as there being a risk of thunderstorms on an almost daily basis. Therefore, during the winter months, the temperature is pleasant and certainly an improvement on the winter weather in the UK. On average, the temperatures in Orlando are around 75 degrees during the winter months.

Baldwin County MLS

Here you can find the stunning Gulf Shores and mile upon mile of sandy white beaches. The average temperature here is around 66F which is warm enough to take walks along the beach or enjoy the many different activities on offer such as dolphin spotting or deep-sea fishing. Regardless of what you choose to do when you are visiting Baldwin County MLS, you can be sure that the weather, especially during winter, will be kind to you.

San Diego and Palm Springs

Southern California is the place that conjures up images of long days in the sun, vast beaches and people keeping fit. It is not only the summer where the sun shines because here, there is sun all-year round. The temperatures during the day reach an average of 66F which is perfect for getting out and about and taking in the sights without having to wrap up warm.

Palm Springs offers the warm desert air just east of Los Angeles and many golf courses, architecture and hotels to enjoy.

Hawaii

Hawaii is on-par or comes a close second to the sunshine state of Florida when it comes to Winter sunshine. This is a real winter-sun playground with a wide range of resorts where temperatures reach around 77F during the day. Hawaii is littered with stunning beaches and amazing scenery all of which is topped off with incredible winter sun.

4 Tips to Saving Money While Growing Your Blog

Mommy blogging can be fun, rewarding, and a great way to share your story with others across the globe.

Maybe you’re just getting into the blogging world, or maybe you’ve been around for some time. Whatever the case, you probably want to make it grow.

Growth usually means more traffic, and traffic isn’t always the easiest thing to produce.

Many moms, much like myself, rush into paid ads and promotions to bring more visitors to their website.

I’m here to tell you that there are easier ways to acquire traffic, and ones that will save you a ton of money.

Below are 4 tips to help you save money while growing your mommy blog.

Implement a Basic SEO Strategy

Think about the last time you logged onto your computer. Many times, the first thing you’d do is open your web browser, and then what pops up? Google.

And guess what? You aren’t the only one that operates this way. Google, and other search engines, are often the first place many people begin their computer time.

It makes sense then that you’d want your mommy blog to show up when people search for related terms. That’s the beauty of a sound Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategy.

Start by using a free SEO checker to find out where your website currently ranks for target keywords.

Don’t have any? No problem. Check out your competition first instead. Find out what keywords they rank for, then start producing more content that uses those exact words and phrases.

Before long, your website will start moving up the search engine rankings, and you’ll see for traffic numbers grow…all without spending a dime.

Start Guest Blogging

I know, I know. Creating content for your website is hard enough. Why would you want to do it for others?

Boatloads of free, highly targeted traffic…that’s why.

Guest blogging is a great way to boost your traffic numbers, gain followers from others within your niche, and build authority.

All you have to do is browse around other mommy blogs, write an awesome post specifically for them and their audience, then reach out and see if they will publish it.

Most will be more than happy to. They need content, and you need traffic. It’s a win-win for all involved.

Blogging for other websites is completely free and almost always worth the extra time spent creating content. Many other bloggers, especially newer ones, have generated tons of free traffic alone through this strategy.

Use Social Media as Much as Possible

Billions of people throughout the world use social media. If you’re not using it to promote your mommy blog, you’re missing out on a big opportunity.

Social sharing has become the norm in today’s society. People love to share unique, inspiring, helpful, or funny content with their friends and family.

If you’re looking for another great, free way to increase your traffic, search no further than social media.

Create a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or some other type of account. Then start sharing any updates from your mommy blog. Begin with family and friends – those most likely to share and want you to succeed.

Once you get rolling with social media, it has the power to snowball into massive amounts of free traffic to your site.

Putting It All Together

Growing your mommy blog doesn’t have to mean breaking the bank. Follow the tips I’ve provided above to increase your traffic while saving your hard earned cash.

The Ultimate Winter Gear for Your Kids

As you head out into the blustery, winter-y weather that has descended on many by this point, you will want to make sure the kids are well equipped to handle all that mother nature dishes out. Here are some of our favorites for your snow days.

One of the most important winter wear items is a durable, water resistant coat. The Dare 2b Boy’s Dedicate Jacket is a coat for both daily wear and for serious outdoor play.  Girls Entrust Jacket also available- same jacket, different name. It not only wears well, but has all sorts of features that your kids will love. It has a waterproof outer layer, and is made with a breathable 4-way stretch fabric. The hood is detachable (but doesn’t fall off) and has an elastic trim, making adjusting it easy. The coat also has internal mesh pockets, and all the pockets zip (so not as many lost gloves and whatnot). It has bight reflective details, making spotting your child on the trails or during snowball fights even easier.  Available at http://www.dare2b.com/ for about $140. Infant snuggler suits (one piece coats for babies) available for about $50 each.

snow gloves

You will want sturdy gloves- it’s hard to play outside very long with cold, wet hands. The Jr Rascal Glove by Seirus comes in fun options like skeleton, zombie, and Digi (think video game/Minecraft looking), and feel as good as they look. Kids will like them because they are fun, you will like them because they are functional and do their job well. They are windproof and water resistant, and have Heatlock insulation to keep little hands warm. They feature a gauntlet cuff that cinches easily to help keep ice and snow from getting inside, and have SureGrip on the palms and fingers to help them hold onto whatever they are trying to keep in their hands. Most gloves are really slippery, this is a cool and useful feature. For about $30 at https://www.seirus.com

snow boots

For snow trekking, you will love the Icebug Myoko BUGweb GTX.  These boots are fantastic- and yes, they have adult shoes and boots. You will love them that much. I have had Icebugs myself for several years, and my son and I agree they are both comfortable to wear and great at keeping your feet warm- we both really like them.  These boots are cut slightly higher then the ankle, and keep you warm with fleece insulation. They have a GORE-TEX® outer shell that will keep your child’s feet dry. They are easy to put on and take off- any parent that has had wars with snow boots will appreciate the double Velcro that kids can adjust themselves. No one will complain about sore feet in these boots- at least no one I’ve met. Available for $169.95 at http://icebug.com/us

To go under your boots- and often not thought of until it’s too late- you want warm, comfortable, and high socks. Yes, high- at least mid calf, because there is nothing more annoying then a sock that falls under your foot while you are walking about. They should also stay put, not the drooping kind. Those are fine for lounging at home, not so much for activities. Hi-Tec makes socks for men and women, and we’ve worn them on a multitude of activities and climates and been happy with them. They are soft, they stay where you want them to, have both zone cushioning as well as cushioning though the entire leg, and (a must) reinforced heel and toe. No toes poking out, and they will last longer. They also have arch support and compression, which is pretty advanced stuff for a sock.  These retail for between $15 and $20, which might seem like a lot for socks- but like I said, these do flex an awful lot of muscle, and you might be surprised and how much happier your feet will be when they are warmer, for longer- and without annoying under-the-heel nonsense that often happens when wearing boots. Pick yours up at http://us.hi-tec.com/accessories.html

Ready to hit the slopes? If not the mountain, perhaps a neighborhood hill. Your kids will really enjoy the Freshie Snow Scooter. It’s something fun and new, yet not so wildly different they will have a hard time using it. A great way to keep active and outdoors when the weather outside turns frosty.  Lightweight and easy to carry (as well as store), it is made of high impact plastic so those rough runs and wipeouts won’t ruin it. Use it to scoot sans wheels down snow covered walkways or driveways, or as a snowboard with handles down hills.  It’s super easy to maneuver and use, even for the less athletically inclined. Fold up the handle and put it away just about anywhere when you are done playing, or when Spring is around the corner. Prices vary, from about $40 and up depending on retailer, at retailers like Amazon and Sears.

Romantic getaway: Europe’s 8 most amorous cities

Valentine’s Day marks the time of year you can put aside everything else and focus on you and your loved one – at least if you’re lucky enough! In which case, why not really indulge you and your partner by booking a city-break overseas in one of Europe’s most romantic metropolises? But which one to choose…?

Paris

Nicknamed the ‘City of Love’, Paris is pretty much the obvious, nay essential place to kick-off a list of this ilk. Blessed with so many delightful sights – from the Eiffel Tower to the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Arc de Triomphe to the Latin Quarter and the cobbled streets of the bohemian Montmartre to all those bridges over the Seine – it may be a cliché to say Paris is the ideal city for lovers to visit, but its romanticism is absolutely unquestioned.

Venice

As far as this blogger’s concerned, Venice may just be the most romantic city in the entire world. Built on an island lying in a lagoon, it contains villas, opera houses, canals and nary a road to be seen. Much of it dates from the Renaissance, including so many of the timeless artworks to be discovered in its multitude of churches. Beautiful and utterly unique in equal measure.

Florence

Speaking of the Renaissance, you absolutely can’t overlook its birthplace as a possible Valentine’s destination. Brimming with spellbinding architecture and stunning statues, it’s also blessed with that awe-inspiring Tuscan sun, gorgeous gelato and all those utterly delicious food dishes. The one problem with the place perhaps is that it’s so beautiful you may never want to leave!

Barcelona

A world-renowned Iberian institution, the Catalan capital is Spain’s most popular tourist destination – and for good reason. Offering up all those magnificently shaped Gaudi structures, incredible cuisine, supreme nightlife and, for culture vultures, a fascinating history and arts scene, it’s a metropolis to absolutely explore (so best pack those comfy but great-for-walking women’s brogue shoes from Mr Shoes) while on a romantic getaway.

Vienna

Waltzes, Ferris wheels, pastries, horse-drawn carriages, royal residences, opera and exquisite Imperial architecture; yes, this Central European capital that’s oozing historical resonance has it all. Easily one of the most elegant cities you could care to visit, why not take a Viennese whirl in one of those Hell Bunny skirts in the Austrian capital? Why not, indeed!
Amsterdam

The Dutch capital’s another city blessed with the beauty that a cornucopia of canals can bring, yet – unlike one or two others on this list – it’s far from the mega metropolis; to visit Amsterdam is to take in a charmingly and very charismatically compact city. And, frankly, who couldn’t feel amorous here, with all its cafés and restaurants and bicycles and echoes of the Dutch masters?

Prague

A perennial destination for stag and hen dos it may be, but this relatively recently discovered tourist-trap of a European capital also makes for a fine Valentine’s short-break location. Why? Because, once again, the architecture is breath-taking in its old fashioned beauty, while its restaurants and café culture are topped off by its plethora of cosy bars in which you and your loved one can sample and sup from an unparalleled choice of fine beers – or a bottle or two of red, of course!
Santorini

Finally, who could overlook the picture-postcard beauty of this little bit of heaven in the Aegean Ocean. In actual fact, this destination’s an entire island (one of the Cyclades) as much as it’s a city, but with its rugged landscape, whitewashed cubiform houses and, of course, that blue, blue Mediterranean water, it’s simply an irresistible locale to while away a few loved up days with your special someone.
