The Agony of Flying @USAirways with a Child

As many of you know, last week I went to Idaho. While there, I contacted my airline carrier, US Airways, to see if I might get an earlier flight home. I was told yes, for a fee of $150 per person, which I was willing to pay. They said since it was the same day, I would need to pay this fee at the airport- but we needed to be there before 2 PM for a 4 PM flight. We packed up, and got there by 1:45.

Little Man trying to get out of the airport…

When we got to the airport, we were told it would not only be the $150 fee per person, but also a 540+ fee per person fee on top of that. (Yes, for a grand total of roughly $700 per person.) I gave the name of the person I spoke to, and explained this is not what we had been told. Then the “blame game” began. It was the reservation desk’s fault, front desk, customer service, etc- and they were all “so sorry” but no one could help. Or would. I began tweeting for assistance.

Just a few of our “rescheduled” tickets that we never got to use- since they kept overbooking flights

They told me there was a flight the next day at 5:20 AM, but that it was extremely overbooked. We were welcome to wait it stand-by, but we were very unlikely to get on it since it was overbooked by (I think) 6 people. Then there was another flight, at 1:14 PM, that we could get on, with 7 seats remaining. We were given seats on that flight and told to be there by noon the next day to make sure we got on. We got there by 11 AM- only to find they overbooked it- AGAIN- and our seats were given to those who paid more for them. We didn’t get on that flight, either. There goes flight number 3, and the end of day 2 in the airport. By the way? There were seats on that 5:20 AM flight, after all, it wound up. The people that missed that flight (of their own stupidity) got our seats on the next flight.

Prepping a Nursery for the Arrival of a Newborn

One of the most memorable moments in any person’s life is the day that they bring
their little miracle, in the form of a newborn baby, home for the very first time.

While they’re planning for that momentous occasion, there is a lot of planning that
goes into place, including prepping the nursery. Now, this doesn’t just include which
color should go on the walls or the patchwork quilt that you want to put on the crib. There
are some other things outside of all of the interior designing that is just as much, if not
more, important.

If you’re preparing a nursery for the arrival of your newborn, here is a checklist to
keep in mind.

What the Crib Needs

After assembling the crib, the first thing that you should do is test it for safety.
Some people like the sentiment of an older (or passed down) crib, but being that safety
regulations change so often, it’s really best to go with one that’s no more than a couple
of years old. Make sure that the slats can fit no more than the width of a soda can
between them and that the crib’s mattress can get no more than two fingers between the
edge of the mattress and the sides of the crib. It’s a good idea to have both a mattress
pad and waterproof cover that fits snuggly onto the mattress and also make sure that
you have at least two different bedding sets. You’re going to need them.

WIN Clifford- from Douglas Cuddle Toys

Clifford is arguably one of the top ten most recognizable dogs in the US, possibly the world, but my measurements for that conclusion is still pending. Clifford is the big red dog who lives with his owner and their family. Fun fact that I am sure all of you die hard Clifford fans know, Clifford started out as the runt of the litter. The books are great fun for kids because it gets some creative thinking moving. It can give them some fun ideas about size changes and gives them very silly ideas like mice the size of elephants or elephants the size of poodles.

Also, there is a lesson behind every story, most of which involve being an active member of your community, acceptance, and kindness. I feel community is a very important topic kids should learn. With computers and cell phone further connecting people, while still keeping them separate, kids need [Read more…]
