Have You Seen Godspell On Broadway Yet? @MamaDramaNY #BWAYGODSPELL

I love Godspell, I always have. I think most of you know I love the theater in general, but Godspell is one of my all time favorites. Confession- I have been in 4 productions of this show myself 😛 Local only of course, but I love, love, love this show- it is fun, eclectic, energetic, and it modernizes with the current times. I am NOT a child of the 70’s, but I loved the movie, and I own the original cast CD, and my son knew most of the songs long before this play hit the stage for a revival. (The new cast recording will soon be available!)

As soon as the cast hit the stage, even before the first song, I knew we were going to be in for a great night- because these “philosophers” came in with their briefcases and blackberries attached to their heads, texting and checking onto Facebook 🙂 Nothing quite like a modern day Socrates checking their status and quoting great works, LOL. And when the first notes of “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord” were sung- the audience was ready to dance along as well. I don’t think you can have a pulse and NOT want to dance when Godspell is in front of you!

The cast is vibrant, young, and exuberant, with members from hit shows like “Glee” and is directed by Daniel Goldstein and choreographed by Tony Award nominee Christopher Gattelli. While this show has not been on the “main” stage for more then 40 years, you won’t know it- all the references are current and the show could not be funnier. The lines are all Biblical and the parables come straight from the Bible, the speech can seem old fashioned- but it is so well preformed that it won’t be strange or boring- it only adds to the show in every way. Hey- any show that can be all about the Bible while also references Donald Trump and iPhones has to be worth seeing!

The cast was amazing- my personal favorites were Julia Mattison (who sang “Turn Back, O Man” and was delightful and funny throughout the show, adding lots of what my daughter calls “glitter”), Uzo Aduba who was the first philosopher and broke my heart with her “By My Side”. She was a super [Read more…]

Starfox 3D

Welcome to the future one and all!
And it is ushered in on the tail of a fox in a space ship.
Daddy Here- Reporting on StarFox. The Nintendo 3DS came into existence less than a year ago and many have been waiting for the ‘must buy’ game. The game which truly shows how truly wonderful and special the 3DS is and how it will stand up in Nintendo previous line of must buy consoles and handhelds. Starfox 64 3D is that game.

In this game you take on the role of Fox McCloud and his crew as they fight their way to save the galaxy from the evil Dr. Andross. In this game you will fly through battlefields destroying enemy ships and robots while navigating treacherous terrain.

Your ship can do many maneuvers like the infamous barrel roll as well as u-turns and 180’s in order to our maneuver your enemies. In doing so you must also keep your comrades safe as well. Your friends, Falco Lambadri, a falcon, Peppy Hare, a rabbit and Slippy Toad , a you guessed it frog, will ask for your assistance shaking an enemy or just need an extra few shots to thin out the enemy ranks. If you do not help them, they will not be there to help you in the next mission. Repairs to their ship usually last one level. This not only brings about a level of skill in regard to shooting down ships but also being aware of what is going on around you. Visual clues as well as a pop up plead for assistance can be overlooked if you aren’t paying attention to your surroundings.

How do You Know When It’s Time for a Nursing Home?

There’s no two ways about it: our bodies (and sometimes our minds) are prone to deterioration with
age, and some are more susceptible than others. None of us can stave off the ravages of time forever,
but if we have good genes and we eat right, exercise, and practice safety first, many of us can stay fit,
healthy, and active for the majority of our lives. Unfortunately, there may come a time in every elderly
person’s life when outside care is needed. So if you are trying to find the best way to help an elderly
relative and you’re not sure if a nursing home is right, here are a few things you’ll want to consider.

Before you settle on a nursing home, you’ll want to go over all the options. A nursing home is probably
the most extreme choice for elder care and should be considered only if other options are unsuitable
(since it may also be the most costly). If your senior relative simply can’t afford the costs of a private
home or he can no longer manage a household, then perhaps a senior living community or a retirement
home will suffice (where he can get help with cleaning, grocery shopping, and so on). Or you may
choose to bring your relative into your own home at far less expense. A nursing home provides for
medical care and constant supervision, so it’s a good bet for those that need attention that other
facilities can’t provide.

As for what types of conditions necessitate entry into this type of institution, there are several signs that
the time may be approaching to place your relative in a nursing [Read more…]

Saving Money on Vehicle Expenses

Everyone knows that vehicles are not only a luxury item, but also a huge expense. First there is the cost
of purchasing a car (even used can be pricy) and the interest that necessarily comes with a car loan,
then there are associated expenses like registration, insurance, maintenance, and gas, and finally there
are extra costs like parking, tickets, and accidents to consider (although these last few may or may not
apply). In short, your vehicle could end up being more of a liability than an asset (and of course, it only
stands to depreciate in value, unless you’re restoring a classic car or you’ve got a limited edition Ferrari
or something). But most of us require one of these money pits to function in modern society, so you’ll
be glad to hear that there are definitely ways to spend a little less when it comes to your car.

For starters, you can save on the price of purchase in several ways. If a new car is pretty much out of
the question, think about a certified pre-owned vehicle. Often they are a year or two old, they come
with a full warrantee, and the cost is significantly less than new. And whether you’re buying new
or used, you may have to secure some financing. Your best bet here is to save up for a good down
payment beforehand in order to cut your monthly payments and potentially allow you to pay down
the principal faster (to avoid some interest payments). You could even consider a lease; the monthly
payments will be lower and if you purchase it you’ll be buying at a lower rate (since you’ve already paid
a portion).

You can also save on the associated costs, as well, by purchasing an eco-friendly vehicle, for example.
These cars may be a bit more expensive than their gas-hogging counterparts, [Read more…]

Couponing- organize your coupon stash

The following is a guest post by Outside the Box Mom:

In the first week of this series, we discussed goals when using coupons. During the second week, we covered some common reasons why people don’t use coupons. In the third week, I told you how to overcome your #1 obstacle in using coupons. Last week, I overviewed the types of coupons available and where you can get them. Today’s post covers the ways you can organize your coupon stash.

The Binder Method
how to organize coupons binder method
Supplies: baseball card sleeves, sturdy 3 ring notebook, tabbed divider sheets
Method: Each week you cut all coupons out of the inserts. Then, organize the coupons by item, grocery store aisle, expiration date or by product type.
Pros: have all coupons at your disposal, take advantage of unadvertised deals, can be expanded for more storage
Cons: heavy, time consuming to clip and file all coupons, time to remove all expired coupons, expensive supplies

The Insert Method
how to organize coupons insert method
Supplies: hanging files, pen/marker, labels, container
Method: Sort by insert date into piles; within the hanging file, I try to group by SS/PG/RP/GM/etc.; write the date on the front in dark pen/marker so it’s easy to see
Pros: quickest, no clipping until you’re ready to use, use a coupon database to find coupons, easy to toss when they expire
Cons: won’t have an individual coupon clipped if you happen upon an unadvertised [Read more…]

5 Great Family Movies to Pop in on Friday Night

If you’ve basically given up on the idea of a family movie night at the theater because of the high cost of
admission, snacks, and so on, then you may be looking for an alternative form of entertainment after a
long week of work and school has left your family beat. Luckily, you can still get the feel of the theater
in the comfort of your own home by staging a movie night. So dim the lights, pop some corn, and get
comfy in your favorite armchair. Here are a few family-friendly movies that will have everyone feeling
good come Friday night.

1. Finding Nemo (2003). There’s no denying that Pixar pretty much hits it out of the park every
time, and you’ve likely got your favorite film, but you really can’t go wrong with this whale of
a tale about a clown fish searching the vast ocean for his lost son. The graphics are incredibly
beautiful, but it’s the characters and the storyline that make this movie special, and they’ll have
you coming back to watch it again and again.

2. The Princess Bride (1987). This fractured fairy tale is fun and offbeat with plenty of characters
that are a little left of normal (a six-fingered villain, a rhyming giant, a Spaniard with a spiel,
