Pool Safety For Children

Spending the summer relaxing by the pool with your family in your own backyard can quickly turn from a dream come true to a nightmare if you are unprepared to keep your children safe. But don’t worry, if you have the right pool safety products and rules in place, a season at the pool doesn’t have to be stressful.

Pool Safety Products

Start by setting up your pool area with the products you need to keep kids out of harm.

Since keeping children from entering the pool unsupervised is the #1 priority, surround your pool with protection fencing that is at least 4-5 feet high and climb resistant, with an automatic latch. You can also install a mesh or solid pool safety cover to keep kids and pets from falling into the pool. For above-ground pools, a lockable ladder will prevent children from climbing into the pool unsupervised. Door and window locks that are out of the reach of children and door and window alarms anywhere that has direct access to the pool will add another layer of protection.

Another important, yet inexpensive pool safety product is a main-drain anti-entrapment cover. An anti-entrapment cover will prevent hair or clothing from becoming caught in the main pool drain, eliminating a serious drowning risk.

To prevent slips and falls that can result in serious injury, place a non-slip safety mat at the entrance to pools and spas.

Be prepared to rescue a drowning person in your pool by keeping a life ring or life vests close by that meets the safety codes enforced by the US Coast Guard. Show the life ring to your children and explain to them what it is used for.

Pool Safety Rules

Now that the pool area is set up with your family’s safety in mind, here are some swimming pool safety guidelines that everyone in the family should follow.

  • Always keep young children within arms reach.
  • Designate a person to watch children when swimming, especially if there are a lot of people in the pool area. The “water watcher” should be sober and undistracted.
  • Do not swim alone. Always swim with a buddy.
  • Keep cell phones handy to call 911 immediately in case of emergency.
  • Do not dive into a pool unless it is in an area that is deep enough for safe diving.
  • Do not run in the pool area to prevent falls.
  • Stay away from pool drains and other areas that create suction.

More Water Safety Tips for Parents

You have set up a safe pool area and put rules in place for your family, but there are still a few more important things to keep in mind for the safety of your children.

The best way to prevent your child from drowning is to teach him or her to swim! It’s never too early to start. But remember, even children who are good swimmers need to be supervised at all times while swimming, as accidents can happen in seconds.

It is always important to be prepared in case of an emergency, especially around water. Learn CPR and make sure that you know the steps to take in a water emergency. And if a child at your home is ever missing, check the pool area first.

With these water safety tips and products, your backyard pool can be a safe and fun place for your entire family.

5 Helpful Tips for Planning Your Trek in Nepal

Nepal is one of the best spots in the world where you should go trekking at least once in your life. And if you are planning to do that already, then know that this is going to be the best and the most exciting experience of your life. Not only trekking is what you can do here, in fact, you can even opt for jungle safari, you can opt for mountaineering and a lot more things that will surely add a lot of fun memories in your life.

Today in this article, we are going to talk about trekking in Nepal and all of what you can do to make this experience more exciting and thrilling. The first thing you need to do is to decide a suitable trek so that you can then start planning it. Our recommendation here is to opt for the Everest Base Camp Trek as it’s just the best one.

But if you want to give other options a shot, go for it and just make sure to follow these tips that we are about to jot down in front of you.

1- Be Ready For Unpredictable Weather Conditions

The land structure of almost all the trekking destinations in Nepal is unpredictable, and the same goes for the weather. So the wiser thing to do is to have a plan B with you all the time in case you face flight delays or cancellations etc. That’s what you are supposed to do on all the trips. You are supposed to plan each and everything before time, keeping the fact in mind that things might not go the way you want them to. There can be cancellations, someone can fall ill, and you might have to cope with the changing weather too.

2- Hire Porters And Local Guides

Especially if you are opting for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, make sure to hire porters and local guides so that you can have the best out of your trekking experience. Hiring the local porters can help boost the economy of the country, and that’s something you can do with goodwill. As far as hiring a guide is concerned, well, these people know all about the best spots and locations in Nepal, so they can make your trip even more memorable.

3- Stay Hydrated

This is one of the most important tips right now that you should keep yourself hydrated all the time. Keep a bottle of water in your backpack and ensure that all of your friends and family members are carrying one with themselves. If someone gets dehydrated and falls sick, believe it or not, your whole trip will be ruined, so don’t take any such risks and keep water bottles with you all the time.

4- Carry Local Currency With You

There are very few exchange centers in the mountains, so the wiser thing to do is to carry the local currency in case you have to buy something. Not carrying the local currency can cause a lot of uncalled and frustrating hassles.

5- First Aid Kit

No matter how many people are going trekking with you, having a first aid kit is extremely important. You see, accidents and injuries are inevitable, and you should be prepared to deal with one, so do carry a first aid box with you no matter how safe the trek spot is.

Conclusion

These are some of the most useful and helpful tips for planning your trek in Nepal. Just follow all these instructions, and we assure you that you will have the best time of your life.

Now at the Paper Mill Playhouse, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella”

We just saw the latest production at NJ’s Paper Mill Playhouse, and it was just delightful. Fun, adorable, and timely ( gotta love those shows that update their material to be relevant to the times and situations), it was a good time for any age. Both cute and funny, the show was a modern take on the classic (and the folktale) Cinderella, who takes a lot less guff then her cartoon buddies did. While still being oh so sweet and of course a bit of a doormat (because, face it- she kind of has to be to survive) she makes her own way, her own friends, and is pretty feisty at times. While you wouldn’t necessarily jump to call her a “hero”, she’s kind to everyone and inspires people to be their best selves and to do the right things- and in this time? That’s pretty heroic. Self rescuing heroine, pleased to see that. No fainting maidens in distress, waiting for some man to save them. Appreciate that.

Take your kids. Take your family. And have a nice date night.

This enchanting, Tony-nominated Broadway adaptation of the beloved musical will put a spell on audiences of all ages. Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella showcases some of the songwriting duo’s loveliest tunes, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It’s Possible,” and “Ten Minutes Ago,” as well as some new characters and surprising twists. Add a dash of fairytale romance, magical onstage transformations, and the iconic pumpkin and glass slippers—and you’re guaranteed to have a ball!

The production team includes scenic design by Anna Louizos, costume design by William Ivey Long, costume coordination by Tom Beall, lighting design by Charlie Morrison, sound design by Matt Kraus and hair and wig design by Paul Huntley. Earth’s Top 4 Extraterrestrial Landscapes

Extraterrestrial life is a hypothetical life which may occur outside of our planet. If you have seen the images sent back by the space probes and rovers dotted throughout the solar system, you might have wondered what it would be like to be on another planet. While the trip to other planets in the solar system is still some distance off, our planet has its own fair share of extraterrestrial landscapes. Here are the top 5 places that you could visit.

Askja Region, Iceland

Askja is a volcanic feature formed by the collapse of a volcano into itself, making it a special form of a volcanic crater. It is located in a remote part of Icelandic Central Highlands. The Askja caldera includes Viti, one of the most famous craters in Iceland. Although Viti is an explosive crater, water has accumulated inside it and the temperature of the water is around 30 ºC. Askja was unknown to the rest of the world until a gigantic eruption which started in 1875. The ashfall was heavy during the eruption and the wind even blew ash all the way to Norway and Sweden. The landscape at Askja is similar to that of the moon.

Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia

Some 11,995 feet above sea level, Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flat in the world. It is situated in the Daniel Campos Province in Potosi in southwest Bolivia. It was formed as a result of transformations between several prehistoric lakes and is covered by a few meters of salt crust. The crust serves as a source of salt and covers a pool of brine. According to a 2009 article by Joshua Keating, the Salar contains 50 to 70% of the lithium reserves in the world. At times the salt flat is covered in very crystal-clear water, making it the largest natural mirror in the world.

Chocolate Hills, Philippines

The Chocolate Hills are a geological formation in Bohol province of the Philippines. They are a famous tourist attraction for people all around the world and they are also featured in the provincial flag of the Philippines. There are over 1,268 hills spread over an area of 50 square kilometres. The chocolate hills were formed by the uplift of coral deposits and the action of erosion. Some Locals will tell you that the hills were created by two giants who hurled rocks, boulders and sand at each other. The main viewing point of the Chocolate Hills is the Chocolate Hills Complex in Bohol. The complex is about 55 km from the region capital Tagbilaran.

Valley of the Moon, Chile

The Moon Valley is a beautiful place with colorful geology and is a natural sanctuary since 1982. Some 2,550 meters above sea level, it is located in Sierra Obate depression. The highest temperature in the valley is 24.5 ºC, and the lowest is 17.1ºC. It has various stone and sand formations which have been carved by water and wind. The Valley of the Moon also has dry lakes and diverse saline outcrops which appear like man-made sculptures.
