101 Dalmatians Diamond Edition Out Today
Disclosure- I received the below in order to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own and honest.
My son really likes dogs- I guess most kids do, but his “like” boarders on the obsessive. Since dogs are one of his favorite things, you can bet a movie with more then 101 of them is sure to be a hit in his book. He was pretty freaked out by this movie when he saw it at a younger age (Cruella was pretty awful, and trying to kill and wear the pups is downright horrifying), but he was better able to deal with it now- although he was still really freaked out by her and her demented ways. Enter fast-forward.
On a brighter note, he LOVED all the puppy antics. It was a bit much for him to wrap his head around how Pongo and Perdita ended up with all those puppies at the end of the story, but he went with it- and tells me that’s what he wants. Why not, right? He laughed out loud multiple times, and in general loved the movie. We gave him the remote and let him fast forward through the parts he didn’t like, so Cruella can’t put a damper on all the puppy-gloriousness that is 101 Dalmatians any longer. Foiled by modern technology, mwa-haha! LOL. He really enjoyed all the doggy heroes, as well.

Movie Review- Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
We recently had the opportunity to watch the soon to be released (on 2/10) movie,Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day starring Steve Carell (Crazy, Stupid, Love, TV’s The Office) as Ben Cooper, Jennifer Garner (Dallas Buyer’s Club, TV’s Alias) as Kelly Cooper and Ed Oxenbould (Paper Planes) as Alexander Cooper. The movie arrives on Digital HD, Blu-ray™ Combo Pack, Disney Movies Anywhere and On-Demand February 10th.
Some movies are deep and meaningful, others are light and fun, while still others fit in the various shades between. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is a light and fun comedy brought to you by Disney Motion Pictures Studios. The story is based on the award winning book by Judith Viorst’s book called Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. After reading the book and watching the play, I have to say the movie takes the general story and extends it with a different storyline and more Steve Carrell.

Disney on Ice Presents Princesses & Heroes
Last night, we had the opportunity to see the latest Disney On Ice show, Disney on Ice Presents Princesses & Heroes. While it was fairly heavy on the princesses and light on the heros, the kids seemed to like it (the girls more so then the boys). There was a pretty cool scene from Sleeping Beauty where Prince Phillip fights the evil Maleficent in her dragon form that many of the kids liked, and was my son’s favorite part of the show- the dragon was large, fluorescent, and breathed smoke and fire as it chased the prince around the ice. Once slayed by the virtuous prince, the slumbering princess could be rescued. (Note- warn the little kids ahead of time, some of the smaller ones were scared of the dragon and the noise.)
My son was hoping for Mulan (battle scenes!) or Peter Pan, but the dragon was fun. Little miss “Aurora” however loved every minute of the princess-fest, as did the other princesses in the audience (many of whom also came dressed as thier favorite princess.) Of course, the audience EXPLODED when the sisters of “Frozen” skated onto the ice- or, more aptly, as soon as they heard the music being played, before you could even see the scenery that was up, lol. Most of the second half of the show was dedicated to “Frozen”, which was just fine with most of the people there, from what I could see. The other princess and heroes that were in attendance included Aladdin and Jasmine, Cinderella and Charming, Rapunzel and Flynn, Belle (sans Beast, though they did a great “Be Our Guest” number with Lumiere and kitchenware) Snow White and Charming, and Ariel and Prince Eric. The Little Mermaid portion is also a fun portion for both boys and girls, since Sebastien the Crab and Flounder play prominently- and the music is a lot of fun, with much of the cast of skaters participating in the show at that time. There is a lot to see and it’s very visually stimulating- the “Under the Sea” portion is enjoyable for a lot of reasons; it’s lively, the music is very upbeat, spirited, and has a very different sound then many other songs, and there are so many cast members skating in vibrant costumes and colors. It also opens with the cast of sailors doing tricks and flips, which is fun and something unique from the rest of the show- there is even a sailor that flips into a chair held above the rest of the “crew”- very neat!

Steven Spielberg finds Sophie for THE BFG
LOS ANGELES, CA (DECEMBER 16, 2014) – DreamWorks Studios announced today that newcomer Ruby Barnhill has been cast as the young girl, Sophie, in Roald Dahl’s beloved classic story, “The BFG.” Steven Spielberg will direct the film adaptation of the children’s novel. Published in 1982, “The BFG” is the tale of a young London girl and the mysterious Giant who introduces her to the beauty and peril of Giant Country. Barnhill joins Mark Rylance who has been cast as the “Big Friendly Giant.” “The BFG” will be 10-year-old Ruby Barnhill’s first feature film role. She has been acting for two years and will appear in the upcoming BBC BAFTA award-winning children’s drama “Four O’Clock Club.” Ruby lives in Cheshire with her parents, younger sister and Tom the cat and is a member of her local youth theatre. “I feel incredibly lucky and I’m so happy,” said Ruby Barnhill. “Sophie gets to go on this wonderful adventure and I’m so excited that I get to play her.” “After a lengthy search, I feel Roald Dahl himself would have found Ruby every bit as marvelous as we do,” said Steven Spielberg. “We have discovered a wonderful Sophie in Ruby Barnhill.” Luke Kelly, Managing Director of the Roald Dahl Literary Estate and Roald Dahl’s grandson, said, “The character of Sophie is one of the most endearing young heroes in Roald Dahl’s stories. She is as brave as she is curious and has an innate sense of wonder. Many congratulations to Ruby on landing the role. We hope that making ‘The BFG’ proves an utterly magical adventure for her.” DreamWorks acquired the rights to the book in 2010 after Kathleen Kennedy brought it to the company. Melissa Mathison, who last teamed with Spielberg and Kennedy on “E.T.,” has written the screenplay. Spielberg, Frank Marshall and Sam Mercer will produce while Kennedy, John Madden and Michael Siegel are on board as Executive Producers. Kristie Macosko Krieger and Adam Somner are Co-Producers. Spielberg will begin production on “The BFG” in early 2015 and it will open in U.S. theaters on July 1, 2016. The Walt Disney Company is distributing the film in the U.S. and select international territories while Mister Smith Entertainment is handling distribution in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. DreamWorks’ partner, Reliance, will distribute the film in India.
Merry Christmas!
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas. Enjoy your day, and hope Santa is good to you.
