Nut Free Thanksgiving Goodie Bags for The Classroom

Nut Free Classroom Snacks

So, it’s that time again- time to be supermom.  As if you don’t have enough to do, it’s class party time, and you are in charge of snacks.  With everyone allergic to something, you need to be conscientious about your food choices.  If you, like me, are not the crafty type , here is a cute (and easy!) all-in-one craft/goody bag the kids are sure to love, and your kids will love making with you.  (Look at that, you ARE supermom!  Quality time with the kids and class party making all rolled into one, score one for you.)

My son and I made these turkey snack bags for his class.  Yes, it would have worked out better if we used orange, brown, or yellow pipe cleaners, but he wanted black ones, so there you have it.  No arguing with the kiddo.

What you need

Pipe cleaners
Orange or yellow construction paper
Non-latex gloves- you know someone is going to be allergic to latex

Lamb Shawarma and Tahini Sauce

American Lamb is one of the most versatile meats available in your local grocery store. It imparts a wonderful taste to your dishes and makes for some incredible Latin, Middle Easter, Asian and Mediterranean foods. From gyros, kabobs, bulgogi, or stew- all can use American Lamb to truly bring out the proper international flavor while still buying local. Nearly 82,000 family owned sheep operations are in existence in the United States giving us consumers a steady rate of local family owned meats.

WP_20141030_18_53_41_ProToday we will be making a wonderful traditional Mediterranean dish, Shawarma. Shawarma is a marinated lamb dish which is put over rice, inside of pita or simply by itself. This dish is incredibly easy to prepare and a delicious way to bring some international flare to your dinner room table without having to break the bank on odd spices and ingredients that will only be used once. So be sure to check it out and enjoy. Also I threw together a tahini sauce which is great when poured over the Shawarma, but is not necessary to make this meal. If you do make the tahini sauce, it is quick and easy, but you might want to make quite a bit.  It can be poured over or dipped into by everything, which it will be once you taste it.

Nut Free Halloween Classroom Treats (for the not-so-crafty)

Read the full article on Kitchology.com

We all know “that mom” who always has the perfect, handmade, beautiful treat in hand for every occasion.  She is usually perfectly put together, in this season’s latest, not a hair of of place.  I am not that mom.  I am not crafty, and I don’t have 4 hours to spend hand-dipping things into other things that I spent 4 hours “whipping up from scratch” – nor do I have the desire.  Sorry, not sorry.  So what’s a not-so-crafty mom to do?  Do we fail our kids, are we horrible moms?  Nope, we have our skills in other places.  And it’s all good, ladies- here’s some really cute, really easy Halloween treats to make that won’t break the bank OR make you late for your meeting, your deadline, or car line.  (Hey, we all have a boss in one form or another.)

It’s a Boo-tiful Thing

And it is!  Because it’s easy to make and not only nut free, but easy to make gluten free as well.  Boom.

Totally simple- ready?  Go to the store, and buy a mess of the tiny marshmallows- most are nut free, and many are gluten free as well. (Check the labels to make sure).  Hint- the average bag makes 3 ghosts in a sandwich sized bag, so buy accordingly (either smaller bag or as many marshmallows as you will need for your class). Get bags to the size you desire- we used sandwich bags, not ziplock- the kind that fold over so there were no other “colors” involved.  Last- get some festive fall ribbon.  We spent less then $10 on all of this.
