When traveling, I try to bring as little as possible.  Shoes can be hard-  they take up so much space in your luggage, and I hate bringing more then a carry on with me (who wants to pay the airlines even more fees?  They already charge an arm and a leg for the privilege of annoying and molesting you and your baggage three or four times between each plane- why pay them more to do so?  Ha.)   Yes, we all know that while I love travel, I hate planes- and TSA even more.  Rude attitudes, taking things they are not supposed to, and dumping bags with no regard for people’s belongings will never help the airline industry or tourism, now will it?  Now that I’m done ranting about TSA, let’s talk about a more fun topic- Shoes!

Mexico and Products 034

I’ve done a few posts on travel and packing tips, and I always advise sticking with a color pattern or using metallic shoes (since they match everything) so that you can mix and match and bring less, while maximizing your wardrobe. I recently took a trip to Mexico, and brought with me only a pair of flip flops (necessary for beach and pool), sneakers (worn on the plane and for hiking and riding horses), and a pair of sandals that matched everything from Vionic.  I loved them because not only are they pretty, but the color allowed me to match them to everything in my suitcase, and they are ultra supportive, comfortable, and even carry the APMA Seal of Acceptance (so you know they are actually good for your feet).

Week 8 On Nutrisystem

I lost another pound this week, whoohoo!  As slow as the weight loss has been for me, at least I am losing.  I am either going to the gym or doing a workout video 5 days a week, and I’m pretty active on the weekends anyway.  I want to see a bigger drop, so I am planning on giving my Nutrisystem counselor a call later on today to see if they have any tips for me that I am not currently doing.  As much as I know that it is not all in the scale, which is true-  I want to see the drop!  I feel good and have a lot of energy, so that’s great.  I spent a very active weekend (as any of you who follow me on Twitter, Foursquare, or Facebook know) and had no issues keeping up with 4 kids at a waterpark, so that’s good news.

New Seal of Approval Winner!

For the family that loves to camp or travel, check out the Reese Explore Car Top Carrier, which is a fabric, rainproof, expandable cargo storage unit for the top of your car.  Great for long trips (or trips that require a lot of luggage), it fits by attaching to your vehicle’s side rails or cross bars.  Be the hero by keeping your baggage clean and dry, no matter what the weather, as you travel to your destination and home again.  It attaches more easily then some roof-top luggage and has the added bonus of extendable straps that give you more room should you need it, or for awkwardly shaped items.  Did I mention it was rainproof?  Nice.  Perfect for all the times you run out of trunk space, or for smaller cars that don’t give you the space you need for all your (and the fam’s) gear.

During a recent visit Little Man and myself had a filling meal.  The meal started as most do at Olive Garden with a wonderful salad, but to bring the salad up a notch we added and antipasto.  This adds Italian cheeses and meats of various types to the all you can eat salad.  This addition is great and makes an already good salad even better.  Up next we had some chicken meatballs from the appetizer menu which Little Man devoured as if he has been starved for days.

The adorable Fuzzy Wuggs Hand Puppets from Manhattan Toy Company are just as sweet as can be, and a great addition for your puppet box.  These monsters are anything but scary, and would be perfect for a bother and sister to play with together, or any child who likes to be “equal opportunity”, LOL.  Another option(s) would be a dad and a daughter puppet, or a mom and son.  So many options for these fuzzy friends!  Easy to manipulate even for the smallest of hands, these are “simple” puppets with only a sleeve for the arm and hand and a mouth to maneuver.  This makes them great for young kids who are just building their dexterity and motor skills, as well as puppet enthusiasts of any age.  Puppets are a great way for creative play and to use your imagination, as well as to get quality playtime with your kids (and watch how their minds work).  Coming in the Orange “Boylie” and the Pink “”Girlie” (complete with mufti-colored braids) you can get one or both for a set.  $24 from http://www.manhattantoy.com and stores like The Learning Express.

ThinkGeek is back with an axe and lucha libre

axeThinkGeek is back and with some brand new shinies.  Today we are going to look at a few new favorites.  One brings a bit of Game of Thrones violence to a cup of tea, the other international wrestling to your cookie jar.  Overall a bit of grrr to snack time.

First up is a nifty axe shaped tea diffuser.  The axe can be filled with any tea of your choice be it herbal, fruit, or leaves.  Once filled the axe snaps shut easily and tightly to keep your tea in the axe and not floating in your cup.  It acts as a wonderful conversation piece as well as a tea diffuser.  The axe is made of stainless steel so clean up is a breeze and as the axe sits in your cup the handle stays relatively cool as well.  This makes a perfect gift for either the fantasy fan in your life or a Game of Thrones fan.  Nothing says tea time like an axe.

My son and I just saw the latest show at NJ’s Paper Mill Playhouse- Grease!  This was my son’s first time seeing the show (one of America’s favorites) live on stage, and I could not be happier to have him see it at one of the best theaters in the area.  We absolutely love Paper Mill- they always have amazing, high quality shows and actors, directors, dancers (many who have been on Broadway), where musical theater is celebrated and NJ can see the bright lights and stars of Broadway without leaving our own backyard.  (Not to mention parking is only $8 vs what you would pay in NYC- at least $35.)  In this performance of Grease, you can see TV and Broadway’s Telly Leung as “Teen Angel”- a treat that thrilled the audience.

This is a great show for families, with it’s classic and familiar high-energy music and fun, relatable plot of high school ups and downs, dating, broken hearts, mean girls, and proms.  My son has of course see the movie (starring the sensational Olivia Newton John and John Travolta) but there is nothing like seeing the show live on stage to experience the musical as it was meant to be. It had the whole audience, young and mature alike, mouthing words and dancing in their seats, ending with a standing ovation.
