Win Playmobil Playset

Playmobil is an awesome brand if you like to have fun with easy, ready made sets, that come in all sorts of varieties so that there is something for everyone.  Oh- that has to be pretty much every single person on the planet, right?  SO, it’s just awesome!
I love playsets– they are already ready, with everything that you need to get down and play.  No endless shopping trips for each figure, each accessory.  If you want to build a HUGE playset, that’s fine too- because you can add them on and make a metropolis of playsets in the same theme.  Good news?  They are each their own set, so you can add or not.  You can add all or add just one- you can do whatever you want.  It’s just easy!

They are good for travel and take-along as well, since they come in sets.  We put this cute  4843Treasure Hunter´s Camp with Giant Snake  into a little backpack, and along it comes to grandma’s!  Something else I love?  When you are on the site, and looking at a set- it gives you others that are similar or are part of the same theme on the side.  I find that helpful.  This one reminds me of Indiana Jones- check out the line of toys that are themed with it- they really do make you want to crack a bullwhip, LOL.  I like that they also included a girl figure- I dislike it when they make all the figures boys, give the girls something, too!  🙂
Little Man liked the giant snake so much that we used it as a jumping board to teach him about snakes, frogs, and other creepy crawlies.  This led to a fun morning at the library!  He now knows that not all snakes have rattles, LOL, and that they lay eggs.  It’s a good start for a 3 year old!
I also took out books of places that have “ruins” (temples, Mayan and Greek sites, etc) and showed him places that used to be thriving, where currently people explore and dig for history.  He’s a little young, so I kept if brief- a few sentences and mostly photos- but I hope it was a building block for both a love of history (like his momma!) and a love of travel.

One of you will win this same set!

Melissa and Doug Beach Toys Prize Pack Contest

Melissa and Doug are known for their quality toys.  I know that it is one of the brands that we have all over my house.  Not that I am a big “Brand” shopper, but when you know something is great, and has yet to let you down, I guess you just kind of stick with it!
When I think of Melissa and Doug, I always think quality toys.  But I also thing “wooden toys” and “classic toys”.  These new sand toys are something different, and though they are definitely quality peices, are not what I expected!  I was pleasantly surprised and happy to see this new line, called “Sunny Patch“.  (How cute are they, anyway?)

I think we as parents have all had our share of sand toys that just didn’t hold up- some don’t even make it a summer!
They crack, they break, they get warped- even though they are usually inexpensive, I have come to find that it just isn’t worth the price.  If I have to replace his toys every year, is it really a bargain?   No, not really.  And it’s really bad for the planet, wasteful!  Ecologically irresponsible, even if you do recycle them after they break.  Why not just go with better quality in the first place?  Especially when the price difference isn’t even that big.

Little Man had fun playing in his sandbox with the new Sunny Patch sand toys, too- look how much he is enjoying himself  🙂
He really liked the turtle sifter, and the little “whisk” toy a lot- and really, where else can you find a sand whisk?  Haha.  It may seem a little strange to see a sand baking set- you do want to explain to the kids NOT to eat the sand- but once you do, and they understand that, they will have a really great time playing “Little Chef” and baking you sand-cakes, sand-pies, and I even got sand-ice-cream and sand-soup.  (Aren’t I a lucky girl???)

Little has only had these toys for 1 day and 2 nights, but since it is summer, I wanted to get this up for you right away!  If these toys hold up anywhere as well as our other Melissa and Doug toys (and I am a Pre-School teacher, so you can bet I have TONS of them, and you can also bet they get used and abused!)  these will be toys you will not have to replace.  Heck, you may even be able to give them away when your kids no longer play in the sand (I know!  Don’t think about it!  They will just stay little!!!)   All I know is that I have never, ever had any issue or problem with any Melissa and Doug toy, puzzle, or set that I have ever owned or used.  Again- there are many of them here!  So I say with confidence that I think these will hold up just as well.  The plastic is thicker, they don’t have any of those annoying little areas for water to get stuck into and mold over, and they are just better made.  And?  Really cute and unique.  Sand cupcakes– so adorable!

One of you will also have the chance to win the same set that I have reviewed for you here.

Win Father’s Day gift pack from Mossy Bayou

Guys- I had to let daddy handle this one!  Mommy doesn’t do spicy, and, well, it IS a Father’s Day prize pack- so doesn’t Daddy know best?

It’s time to take a little road trip, down south.  Quite south actually, to the swamps of Louisiana.  Welcome to Mossy Bayou Foods home to some very tasty treats.  These wonders from the swamp include popcorn rice.  Which smells just like popcorn as at cooks and tastes like a nice flavorful rice when you eat it.  It is quite odd to be making tacos and rice and smell popcorn cooking. Threw everyone for a loop.  My favorite by far was the Louisiana Swamp Scum Hot Sauce It tastes great and spicy and also, looks really neat, like swamp water.  I’m going to guess that is why they call it swamp scum!  And yes I can attest to it looking odd, and I really did enjoy it.  So far I have put it on pizza, tacos, pasta, rice and chicken.  I’m sure you get the point, I like hot stuff and this hits the spot.
We also gave the Bayou Blend Seasoning a try.  We marinated the chicken breast in a dry rub of the blend.  It was spicy straight from the jar but when used as a marinate it was perfect.  It made for some very good grilled chicken that night.  An interesting blend of spicy and sweet.
These were some of my personal favorite treats from this big ol box of goodies!
I’m handing this back over to “Mommy” now.

It always feels so weird to do a blog hand off, LOL.
SO!  Now, for the contest!  Mossy Bayou has offered one of you a fantastic prize pack.

Win Boon Rubber Ducks! (BPA Free!)

Hello, and welcome to odd duck park!

Please refrain from feeding the ducks!  They sure  don’t look like your average duck.  But they are the same-ish shape as your average rubber duck, but they have wonderful patterns and crazy colors to help them blend into a psychedelic poster from the 60’s, which is their natural habitat.  🙂
They also have a few different shapes- because beautiful ducks come in all shapes and sizes, don’t they?  LOL.
Also, unlike other rubber ducks these ducks are BpA and PVC free.  Great idea for something that will most likely get gnawed on by your little ones.  Less chemicals are always a good thing.  Speaking of gnawing have you ever looked a rubber ducky and saw some weird gross stuff growing in it right near that little hole in it ‘s bottom?  It’s called black mold, and I WILL NOT let Little Man bring those sorts of toys into his tub.  GROSSSSSS.  These Odd Ducks can’t get it, they are sealed.  No water in, no nasty mold in. No needing showers after bathes.  These ducks are favorite of Little Man.  Rubber ducks are his weakness! He will even play with them outside the bathtub.  Nothing like some odd duck-Iron Man crime fighting adventures.

Little playing with them out of the tub- told you!  Hehe

Odd Ducks, ready for tubby-time action!

A bit more info on the Odd Ducks-
Not Your Average Rubber Ducky. Kids are all different shapes and sizes, shouldn’t rubber ducks come that way too? Meet Slim, Bob, Jane and Squish. We’re not trying to encourage a rubber ducky smackdown, but Odd Ducks are PVC-free, unlike those other mucky ducks. And ours do not hold water, so they won’t grow that black mold that kids always try to suck out.
One of my lucky winners will win Odd Ducks, made by Boon!

Air Hogs Zero Gravity Cars 2 Finn

What the what? Is that car climbing a wall?
How does a toy defy gravity??  Well that I can’t tell you, all I do know is it uses air, a few batteries and the push of some buttons.  Air hogs has just released a new line of toys associated with the new Cars 2 movie
Everyone (male)  has heard of Air Hogs.  The remote control helicopters and other cool flying vehicles always work with the greatest of ease.  My husband is a loon and has several!  LOL
R/C Zero Gravity Finn has the ability to go from floor to wall and back again, driving along and moving quite quickly.  Quickly bolting from floor to wall, as if there is almost no transition at all.  When Finn is climbing up the walls,  it is by far one of the coolest things ever.  In the biggest, most professional adults you will still get that look of a kid seeing something for the first time, with wonder and awe in their eyes.  Air Hogs Zero Gravity Cars 2 Finn can take a tumble, too- because he fell off the wall a few times, HIGH, too- and he came right back, no problems.
Going up the door!  (it will go across, too!)

Works great on the floor, as well!  Here is Little Man, smashing daddy’s feet  🙂
After unpacking and charging Finn, the first thing you’ll want to do is have him climb up a wall after which the nearest kid- or husband   😉  will come to watch and say “Can I try?”  No matter what age, sex, or level of sleep-depravity ye may be!    It is really something cool to see.  The only drawback I can see is it eats batteries, but this will be true of any R/C vehicle, so make sure you grab some batteries with this nifty toy.  OR get the rechargeable ones, like we do!
By the way- did I mention this was the coolest toy ever????  For realsies.  My son adores it, daddy loves it, and I was captivated by it when I saw it- who DOES these things?  I mean really.   The car goes up the wall!  What’s cooler then that?
Happy driving, and Cars 2 is coming out soon- fasten your seatbelts!!!

Growums- Review and Giveaway! (gardeneing with your kids)

So we just set up our Growums garden.
Of course, we decided to get the kids involved in the gardening, as usual!  Both of them love veggies and we always have a least a few plants growing over the summer.  In the past we have tried many different plants, hot peppers, eggplant, green beans, corn, lettuce, tomatoes, herbs, etc.  We have found what works best and found a fun way to bring the whole family in on the fun this year.  Growums!  They not only give you starter packs and seeds, but also they give you  fun charactesr and something friendly with the gardening, while keeping it exciting and current, by including an online tracking mechanism. (So cute- you have to see it- and they send you little reminders via email to check your gardens, LOL.)
Growums are sold in gardens, there are quite a few, including the Salad Garden, Herb Garden, Taco Garden, Ratatouille Garden, Stir Fry Garden and Pizza Garden.  Each garden includes everything you need, except water and a nice hole in the ground.  They include seeds and coco pellets, ‘baby plant beds’ as Little Man put it.  You start out germinating the seeds in the coco pellets then as they grow you plant them and track your progress with their website: http://www.growums.com.  It’s a good idea and not only gives kids a better understanding of plants and growing, but also of how much work actually goes into dinner.  It even gives them a sense of accomplishment when they first see that seed sprout and I am assuming when take that first bite of a fresh vegetable they helped grow!  Last Earth day we planted a corn kernel for each, one corn made it- one, not so much.  But we did get one ear of corn and the kids would go nuts checking on its progress everyday, BEGGING to eat it everyday.  When we finally picked it they absolutely loved it, as if it was the best corn they had ever eaten according to them.  I am hoping for the same reaction this year but in a more pronounced manner and a more hands on approach.  Last year the kids planted the kernels and other fully developed plants, and we watered, weeded and fertilized the garden.  This year the kids are involved in all aspects, so they should also learn put in effort, get out fun. 🙂
Growums is a great idea because not only is it a gardening set but also a learning experience.  The kids learn about plant biology, farming (in a very very small scale), food and cooking, hand eye co-ordination and of course quality time maintaining the garden.
One of you can win from Growums!
