Get Away In Las Vegas Without The Kids

During the summer, family vacation destinations get a great deal of attention. Indeed, the warmer months of the year can be perfect if you want to find a nice beach or kid-friendly resort for everyone to enjoy for a few days. But what if you want to enjoy a summer getaway without the kids?

For most parents, this is an appealing, and even therapeutic concept. The idea of leaving the kids with friends or family for a few days to enjoy an adult getaway means enjoying some relaxation as a couple together, rather than as parents in a crowd!

If you’re looking for just such a getaway this summer, Las Vegas may be the perfect destination to consider. You hear about the partying and the nightclub scene in Vegas, of course. But it’s also an incredible place for parents to soak up some entertainment, romance, and deep relaxation. Here are 5 specific tips to consider for your Vegas getaway.

1. Stay At A New Resort

The classic resorts you’ve seen in movies about Las Vegas are fun, but they tend to be busier, gaudier, and a bit less relaxing. Consider the ARIA instead. This is a sparkling, incredible new resort built more for luxury than for bright lights and casino activity. Of course, you’ll still find crowds, busy pools, and a casino floor. But you’ll also find unrivaled comfort and luxury.

Jonathan’s in Ogunquit, Maine

Maine soup

Jonathan’s in Ogunquit, Maine is a fantastic family friendly restaurant.  There is a 600 gallon fish tank in the middle of the main dining area to keep the kids amused while you enjoy a delicious meal. They also have beautiful gardens outside and concerts going on indoors on multiple days of the week to keep the entire family entertained.  The food is fresh, and choices range from seafood dishes to steak or pasta.  Jonathan’s caters to a variety of dietary restrictions too, so anyone can come in and enjoy a wonderful meal.  They have an entire gluten free menu, which is very hard to find. Many of the dishes can be made into gluten free versions- all you need to do is let your waiter or waitress know what you’d like.Maine

You can start out your meal with a silky delicious lobster bisque, oysters, boursin stuffed mushrooms, or a classic salad.  Maybe they will have the pan seared scallops special, which is fresh tender diver scallops, served with mustard green fritters for some crutch and carrot ginger sauce.  For an entree you will have to decide between items on the regular or specials menu, both will have you drooling by the time you choose.  They have a juicy chicken piccata or prosciutto stuffed chicken if you are in the mood for poultry, tender grilled ribeye and sirloin steaks if you would prefer beef.  They even offer a vegetarian option with fried eggplant, spinach, and goat cheese with potato gnocchi. Of course, there is a children’s menu with choices that all kids enjoy, and they even have crayons to color the menu with.

Becky’s Real BBQ

Becky’s Real BBQ in Middletown, RI, is some of the best BBQ I have ever had (and this girl has had some).

BBQ

When we showed up for dinner, they were (very sadly) nearly out of their entire menu- I’m guessing it was a good day, business wise.  However, what we had would keep us coming back again and again- it was pure BBQ perfection. Foodies and Fans of the pit and smoker rejoice, and flock to this friendly joint.  The prices were more then reasonable, as well.  Just call ahead to make sure they have food left before you get in the car.

EatSmart TravelWise 3 Piece Packing Cube Set

pic 1

As you all know, we travel a lot, so it’s always great to find products that make packing easier, quicker and more organized.
EatSmart has just released the TravelWise 3 piece packing cube set, which is great for organization and keeping things where they belong.  This is helpful during the packing stage, but more so during the “finding” stage when you are at your location and you need to find your child’s underpants, STAT, or in the morning when you need your vitamins.  They always, always fall to the bottom of the bag.  (The small bag is so good for vitamins, medications, and toiletries, and makes finding them fast and easy.)

What to Do and See on a Trip to Frankfurt

Frankfurt offers one of the largest airports in the world and for many within and outside of Europe is a gateway to the Germany and the continent. The city itself is also the financial capital of Germany and is a mainstay of business. However, fortunately, there are plenty of far more exciting and fun things to do in this Germanic metropolis. So, what should you make sure to see on a trip to this wonderful city?

The Römerberg

The Römerberg

The ‘Roman Mountain’ as the translation would have it is the picture of old Germany and is positioned at the heart of the old town. The area has the half-timbered houses you’d imagine when thinking of Germany of old and has been holding the town’s fairs since the 13th century. The town hall still resides here today after over 600 years and there’s quite a twee but unique feel around The Römerberg and it’s a must see on a visit.

The Goethe House

The most significant and also well-known German writer is Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and as you may have guessed he was born in Frankfurt. Goethe wrote the renowned book Faust, a tale of a man who makes a pact with evil for his own gain. Goethe’s home was destroyed in World War II however, the German people have complete restored it brick for brick and painting for painting and though burned to the ground in the 1940s, it’s now exactly as it has been for almost 300 years.
