Mario Kart is back and in a huge way. With HD graphics, anti-gravity driving, and 30 characters, the game is packed to the brim with fun. Mario Kart has always been one of the “go to” games in the Nintendo franchise, mixing fast moving racing and action style fighting while racing, the games have consistently improved and built more onto the previous iteration. This is particularly true of Mario Kart 8. The first thing you will notice is the graphics, sharp and bright and loud its like having and arcade game in your living room- except you and your friends don’t need fist fulls of quarters in order to wipe the floor with each other. Another advantage of having Mario Kart for the Wii U is the controller, it is perfect for racing games and in my opinion more fun then using the Wii controller. But both are available for usage with the game. Also usable is the Wii U Pro controller which is another welcome addition to the party. Up to 4 players can play at the same time with easy Grand Prix, Challenge more or Balloon popping. Grand Prix being a set of 4 races and a grand champion is crowned, Challenge is player controlled opponents only to keep the race pure and no one complaining about that Red Shell Luigi keeps throwing at them at the finish line. Balloon popping is more of a battle royale with lots of action and tons of fun.

Kirby Triple Deluxe for the 3DS
Kirby is a cute little puff ball of vacuuming power and he is now attacking the 3DS with his newest game Kirby Triple Deluxe. In this game Kirby is collecting items, copying abilities and kicking butt.
Kirby starts out with no weapons and few special abilities save for one. The ability to copy enemy abilities. Some of the abilities Kirby can copy are sword, leaf, whip, beam, ninja bomb and fighter to name a few. All of which can be used one at a time to take out other enemies. One of Kirby’s newest moves is the Hypernova. This move creates a massive vacuum and lets Kirby suck up just about everything in sight including entire trees and massive enemies. This move is larger then life and is a blast to play with.
In addition to the main story there are also other game play types available. Even a fighting game which is cartoon y and fun. With up to three other players this game is a blast. Each player uses a different colored Kirby and can pick their special ability which mirror the abilities from the main game, including ninja, sword and beam. This makes for some fast paced action packed game play.

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
Donkey Kong has been around since the early 1980’s in the arcade game Donkey Kong. Since then Donkey Kong has hopped from good to bad many times. Then 1994 happened and Donkey Kong Country would solidify Donkey Kong as a Nintendo legend. This Rare made game brought Donkey Kong to the lime light with a CGI look, new music and Mario-type platforming with his side kick Diddy Kong. Country is back and on the Wii U with Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. This game is a fun romp through Donkey Kong and makes for a great game to play with kids.
Tropical Freeze starts with a birthday party which is interrupted by the evil Snowmad armada. Once it arrives they proceed to freeze over the tropical landscape. Out heroes Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, and Kranky Kong. When Donkey Kong is teamed up with on of his cohorts the team has new powers. Diddy Kong has a rocket pack, Dixie has helicopter hair and Kranky has a bounce staff. These powers open up areas of each level which were previously unreachable. The player has the option to either do your best to finish or do your best to collect everything. This may seem difficult but with some thinking and some luck all are reachable.

Yoshi’s New Island Video Game
Disclosure: The below was provided for me in order to facilitate my review. All opinions are my own and honest. I am disclosing this in accordance to FTC Guidelines. Please see “Disclose” tab for more information.
Yoshi is one of the most beloved characters created by Nintendo. The reasons being that he is cute, tough, and hey- he throws eggs. He is the quintessential assistant and mode of transportation. Lets face it, if we could call ride a Yoshi to work or school everyday we would. This lovable dinosaur is back in the Yoshi’s New Island for the Nintendo 3DS and 2DS.
The game starts out with the familiar stork and Mario story. Mario is bring carried to his parents, but along the way the stork is attacked by Kamek, causing Mario to fall to Egg Island- and the adventure begins. This game plays like other Nintendo plat-formers, but with a more child friendly theme. Many textures look like crayon or pencil drawings, while the main characters are brightly colored and vibrant. Their animation seamless and a pleasure to watch and play. As with most recent Nintendo plat-formers, if the player is stuck at a point in the game, wings, then golden wings are available for usage. These help Yoshi to fly, holding down the jump button, and make him invulnerable to most attacks.

Get Your Game on With Nintendo
This past weekend, my son, husband, and myself headed to the Nintendo World Store in New York City to check out some of the newest and soon-to-be-released games, including Yoshi’s New Island and Disney Magical World launching soon on the Nintendo 3DS/2DS. We had a great time playing the new games, checking out the systems, and even answering some fun trivia questions. My son is a Yoshi pro, so the questions were right up his alley. He won a prize, which thrilled him to no end (a plush Kamek) and we even won a raffle prize- a Yoshi T-Shirt.

Fun Toys For Boys
New Year, New Toys? If you are like me, yes- definitely! LOL Here are a few of my top picks for boys.
Transformers Rescue Bots Beam Box
There is a surge of video game themed toys recently. Not only are they video game themed, but they take your toy and bring them into the game. Hasbro has joined the fray with Transformers Rescue Bots Beam Box. This new game/toy is meant for the younger crowd but is still fun and will keep everyone entertained.
Rescue Bots are one of the newest lines of Transformers, created for smaller hands, and with less intricate parts. The unit comes with a controller and one figure, Optimus Prime. When put inside the system, Optimus is your main character in the game. There are five games to play as Optimus, all of which are easy to control and have simple control schemes. These games are meant for 3 to 7 year olds
The starter set containing Optimus and the console itself retails for 49.99, with additional figures retailing at 6.99. Both are available in just about every toy store and online- batteries required.
The Ugglys Pug Electronic Pet
My son’s new favorite toy is completely gross- on purpose. But really, it’s disgusting- and my husband (and every male that has seen it (whether he is 5, 35, or 85) has enjoyed it a little too much, laughing as if they were watching Comedy Central. I’m not in any way exaggerating. “The Ugglys Pug Electronic Pet” is all about bodily functions and the noises they make- it burps and passes gas. How can it get any better, you ask? Well, your child (spouse, father, whatever) can control the timber of said gas as well as manipulate the sounds and decide how long it will create this sound (in 30 varieties) for your auditory pleasure with the “warp feature” on it’s collar. For added insanity, it will ring like a telephone or buzz like a bee at random. Why, you ask? Because boys think it’s funny. Also- it’s a hand puppet, which all kids love. $35, Toys R Us.
