How to Help Kids Improve Their Communication Skills

No matter what it is that you set out to accomplish in this world, you can get it a lot faster if you are a good communicator. Signs of someone who has really great communication skills is an individual who is a great listener, who can clearly convey their thoughts, who can interpret body language, who exudes confidence and who can express themselves both in written and verbal form.

communication skillsAs you’re striving to teach your child how to improve on their communication skills, there are a few tips that we recommend; ones that will easily help them to develop a way to connect with those around them and that’s something that they can carry throughout the rest of their lives.

Teach them about body language. A wise man once said that 90 percent of communication lies in things that have not been verbally expressed. It can be fun for you and your child to make different kinds of facial expressions and then have you interpret them to one another. For instance, you can roll your eyes and ask them what they think that means. Then, in return, they may squint their eyes and you can take a guess at what they’re thinking. One of the main benefits of exploring body language is that it teaches children that you have [Read more…]

Raiding Your Closet: Old Fashion Trends Coming Back in Style

It seems like the 80’s are knocking on the door again, and if you are someone who is invested in looking sharp, you need to keep an eye on the styles that are coming back. What looks should you go looking for in the old storage unit, and which ones are going to suit you best?

Leggings

Leggings are back in a big way, and in many ways, they are exactly the same as they were in the eighties. Black leggings make your legs look very long and slim, and they go with just about everything, but they are far from your only choice. Look for leggings with geometric prints as well as more precise designs. Leggings with maps and animal sketches on them are making a big fuss in the trendier stores.

Glitter

Glitter was big in the eighties, and now it has taken a step forward again. If you want to avoid looking like a very young child, keep the glitter on a low level. Choose black items with glitter on them, or look for jeans that have a bit of glitter at the hips, the rear or the hems. Glitter can add an [Read more…]

Mexican Pizza with Del Monte – Win a Gift pack and $25 Gift Card

Just wanted to share a recipe with you all for some interesting pizza.

On pizza night I like to make the pizza from scratch- we have a pizza stone and I like to make the dough. It takes a while, but with practice and patience, a great meal is worth the wait. (And it makes your house smell great all day long.)

Dough/Crust

Ingredients

2 cups flour

1 packet yeast

1/4 cup sugar

dash salt

at least 4 cups warm water, maybe a bit more

To make the dough you must give yourself 3-4 hours before cook time in order to get the perfect dough. First of all get 2 cups warm water, about the same temperature as bath water and mix in your sugar until it is dissolved. Once dissolved mix in the yeast packet and let it sit someplace dark and warm. Personally we use the microwave, but DO NOT put it on. Let the yeast sit for about 15 minutes until the yeast wake up and start bubbling and making a foam at the top of the water. At this point take your dry ingredients, the flour and the sale, mix, then add your yeast mixture. You will have to add more water. This is the part where you have to eye ball it. You want the dough to form a ball. This is also one of the fun parts of the recipe that kids can help with you want to mix it with your hands. We always end up having to add more water so its a good idea to start out with 4 cups of warm water so there isn’t a scramble to the sink with dough covered hands. If you don’t use all the water, don’t panic. Once your dough ball is formed, put it into a big bowl which has been greased with olive oil and put a warm damp towel over the top of it and let it sit in a quiet warm [Read more…]

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Harman Stoves for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

“Baby It’s Cold Outside”

That is an understatement, with the recent Arctic winds which flash froze the north east and the winds and tornadoes in the middle of the country, it is time to rethink heating. Lets discuss a nice alternative for home heating, a pellet stove. A pellet stove can cost as little as 44% less than oil, 47% less than electric, and 53% less than propane heat to heat your home.

Harman Pellet Stoves are one of the leaders in the field of pellet stoves. Their fuel pellets are based on biomass fuel which is a much greener fuel then oil, coal or wood. [Read more…]
