Let’s face it, we all spend a lot of time asleep. Many of us wish for that time to be longer most nights, but we spend more than 2 days out of the week in bed so that bed should be the best possible match for you. Not always an easy order, and now with all of the delivery mattress companies out there it can be even more confusing. That is why I was so excited to find Zenhaven by Saatva.

I honestly wasn’t too sure what kind of bed I wanted. Traditional spring mattress, memory foam, or something more. Finding Saatva was a total bonus because they cover all of the options with their different lines. Saatva makes a super affordable coil centered mattress with organic cotton cover and a euro pillow top. Their Loom & Leaf line is eco-friendly foam with cooling gel for maximum comfort. The one I chose was something I had never even heard of which is the Zenhaven natural latex mattress. By having all of these options with one company their customer support was able to guide me through the selection process and answer all of my questions. It was a reassuring experience and truly pressure free. They made picking a mattress a dream and I could not be happier with my choice. I could not be happier with my choice. It’s not just me, there are many Zenhaven mattress reviews praising the quality of the product.

Here was what got me. Yes I LOVE that the mattress is hypoallergenic, dust mite resistant, mold resistant and naturally breathable with organic layers. What I was stuck on in contemplating an online mattress purchase is how firm do I like my mattress. I honestly wasn’t sure. Best part of the Zenhaven bed is that each side of the mattress is a different level of softness. You get two options with one purchase! The softer is the Luxury Plush side, the other, Gentle Firm, is 18% firmer. Now be warned, if you like a truly firm option this is not the mattress for you as the firmer side is still a decently soft sleep. For me this could not have been better.

You have 120 days to try your mattress and I have used that much time, trying both the Luxury Plush and Gentle Firm sides of the bed. I love it now even more than the first night I slept on it. The gentle but firm support is wonderful for my sore spots and some old injuries. I am sleeping better at night now and whenever I am away I look forward to coming home to my Zenhaven mattress. This process can sometimes increase blood circulation and reduce inflammation. I certainly felt better afterwards! I did not realize how tweaky my back was until after the massage began. The therapeutic massage did wonders for my partner. He left the table feeling stretched, relaxed, and ready to go home and cuddle! Be prepared to have something already cooked at home or to get some food, because all you are going to want to do after is curl up and enjoy the post massage bliss.

Glass Bottom Boats on Catalina Island

Sea life up close while staying dry.

When visiting Catalina Island checking out the underwater sea life is a highlight of the trip. These waters are home to a diverse group of fish including the Garibaldi, the state fish of California. There are a few options when approaching these Pacific Ocean natives, like hopping right in the water and swimming with the fishies. Another is the adventure of a Glass Bottom Boat Voyage from the Catalina Island Company. It’s kinda like a car’s moon roof in the floor of the boat, a comfortable seat with a view!

The very first glass bottom boats were used sailing around Santa Catalina Island and the tradition continues today. You can visit under the sea with a boat ride through the kelp forests of the Lover’s Cove Marine Preserve. Schools of fish make their home in these protected waters. As the boat makes its way along the sea floor the bright orange Garibaldi fish are easy to pick out. Large black sea bass swim like moving shadows amongst the kelp and under the boat.

There are two options for the water boat tours available, the traditional boat and the Undersea Expedition in a Sea Wolf Semi-Submersible Vessel. If you prefer to take in some fresh air while on the water the first option is ideal. Kids might appreciate the submarine like experience of the Sea Wolf as well. Both of these tours gives a great view and the tours are a similar length. Pick your vessel and you are ready to get out there and see the sea.

A Day at Glen Ivy Hot Springs

An outdoor spa not to be missed!

Glen Ivy Hot Springs located in Corona California, just south of Los Angeles is the spot for relaxation and fun. The grounds are positively beautiful. The soothing sound of running water from strategic fountains and a small constructed stream with waterfalls adds a natural soundtrack to your visit. There are plenty of options to pick from, saline pools, the natural hot springs, hot and cold pools to splash back and forth between, and the highlight of the visit, Club Mud! This was my first experience covering myself in red clay and I can not wait to do it again.

You want to set aside more than five hours for your visit and definitely consider being there the whole day. Summer hours are considerably longer of course so keep in mind that after Nov. 1 – Feb. 28 they close at five instead of nine. Glen Ivy offers more than just the spa experience, massages, skin treatments, and salon services are all available during your visit. If you are getting a service and having a leisurely meal this is an all day event.

I got the mud massage which is designed to detox the body and man does it work. I could feel the stress and cruddy build up from my muscles sucked right out of my back. Christina my masseuse was knowledgeable with a firm hand, adjusting all my sore spots and leaving me feeling stretched and relaxed. I would recommend if you are getting massage done you either plan it first, or bring a second swim suit though. Putting back a cool wet suit after a nice warm massage was not ideal.

There are two places to eat on site and you can even enjoy a cocktail while soaking in the sun.
The food is excellent. Some of the ingredients are even grown on the property and those that aren’t are still amazingly fresh. The nachos are a must share. The portion is huge and these are the best nachos I have ever eaten. The cheese sauce is a perfect balance of cheesy, without being overwhelming or greasy. The salad tasted as good as it looked and it looks stunning! Definitely plan on spending the time to eat here.

Glen Ivy Hot Springs is perfect for a ladies day or couples getaway. A day outside surrounded by nature and good company is the best retreat you can find. I made this trip with a friend and I am excited to return again for a couples spa visit. Your first visit will not be your last.

A Visit to Catalina Island

It begins with a boat ride…

Located off the coast of Southern California, Catalina Island is a vacation destination and adventure start to finish. From the beautiful vistas to the quaint town of Avalon, Catalina is worthy of its hundred plus years as a travelers’ oasis. To get to the island you have two options, boat or helicopter. Most of the islands visitors go by way of ocean travel which takes a little over an hour.

There are two major towns on the island but Avalon is by far the most popular and iconic. Much of the island is undeveloped and now home to herds of bison, wild foxes, and deer. You can even catch sight of a bald eagle if you head out on one of the nature tours of the island.

JazzTrax Festival. Hearing live music where Hollywood stars of the Golden Age partied is a thrill. Or you can catch a movie downstairs in the art deco theatre. Taking a Casino Tour to learn the building’s history is a great way to get a look at everything as well.

Another adventure on Catalina Island is the underwater activities. Swimming, scuba diving, and snorkeling are a big draw.  One option to see the abundant sea life is to get in and get wet, but certain months of the year that is less enticing than others. If you want to get up close and personal while staying dry give the Glass Bottom Boat Tour a try. You can go out and give catching your dinner a try too. The island is known for its great fishing.

Even if you don’t reel anything in you won’t be short on seafood to enjoy. There are restaurants all over Avalon serving fresh fish and other delicacies. With so many options to chose from a Taste of Catalina Food Tour is a way to get started. Visit some Island hot spots on this guided tour which blends Island history, and I spy into a drinking game of Bingo.

The Catalina Island Museum is not to be missed. Learn the history of the island from the first people to live there, through the Spanish explorers, to the purchase of the land by the Wrigley Family. Sports fans will appreciate the ties to the Chicago Cubs who came out for spring training from 1921-1951. Not to mention the art at the museum. Their Chihuly Glass exhibit is stunning.

There are plenty of hotels and Bed and Breakfasts to chose from for your stay. A couple days is perfect to see the island. Our ride back was at sunset and it could not have been a lovelier end to the trip. Overall we loved the island so much that we are planning another trip back to visit again and take part in even more of the activities offered there. My snorkel gear will be packed next time for sure!
