Take a Food Tour on Your Next Vacation for a Different Travel Experience

Ah, vacations! Forget the job. Forget the errands. Forget the daily grind. Just pack up and go! And whether your dream vacation is a long road trip across America, the ultimate European holiday, or a cruise to far away places with strange sounding names, don’t forget the huge role that food plays in any vacation.

While everyone needs to eat, foodies love to eat! Especially local cuisines. If this description fits you, you definitely will want to take a food tour on your next vacation to enhance your travel experience.

Food Tour Amenities

If you’ve never heard of a food tour, it is a tour of local food and beverage makers and/or the restaurants, cafés, or wineries that sell them. A true food tour is professionally guided and lasts anywhere from two hours to several days. Depending on which tours you choose, the length of time involved, and what you will see and do while on tour, they generally cost between $35-$170 per person, but undoubtedly will cost considerably more if multi-day and/or if you book a private tour instead of a group one.

Common types of food tours include the following:

●       Walking tours of the restaurants and shops in a specific city or neighborhood thereof

●       Bus tours of ethnic neighborhoods

●       Bicycle tours of a city or region

●       Segway tours of particular neighborhoods

●       Private car tours of a city or region

The whole purpose of a food tour is to give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the local food culture, including its food ingredients and artisan products. You likely will also get a feel for the region’s history and culture, particularly as it applies to the foods and beverages produced there.

Food tours can include such things as a visit to a local winery, cheese shop, bakery, etc. where you will see how the food or beverage is made and get a taste sampling of it or them. You may also get the opportunity for a hands-on workshop experience in making the food or beverage yourself. Some food tours include a main meal at a restaurant or café as part of your cost, but with other tours you will need to actually purchase your meal.

Depending on the time of year of your vacation, the country and city you plan to visit, and the popularity of any given food tour, you would do well to book your reservations well ahead of your scheduled arrival date. Always make sure to carefully read the tour provider’s so that you fully understand exactly what your food tour includes, how it will be conducted, and what you can expect to experience on it.

French Food Tours

If you’re going all out for a European vacation, you can’t fail to go to France to sample some of the best foods and wines in the world. Paris is not only the City of Lights but also a foodie paradise. From escargot to croissants or baguettes to steak tartare to madeleines or eclair au chocolat to some of the best wines you’ll ever taste, the culinary joys of Paris are all there waiting for you to experience. Food tours abound, including several full-day tours and the extraordinary Taste of Montmartre tour.

If your vacation schedule allows for it, however, be sure to spend several days in the Bordeaux area of France. Not only will you be treated to breathtaking scenery, but your palate will also think it’s died and gone to heaven. Think foie gras, duck confit and black truffles paired with bold and complex Bordeaux wines. Bordeaux offers a number of food tours, including walking and multi-day biking.

Italian Food Tours

If your European foodie vacation is a multi-country one, you should definitely include Italy on your itinerary. For one of the most unique food tours you’ll ever take, check out the four-day self-guided wine tasting tour in Chianti, Italy, that even includes a cooking class at Villa Bordoni. On this tour, you’ll visit family-owned wineries producing Chianti Classico, the red wine named for this region, as well as local restaurants serving exquisite lunches and dinners. By the way, lunch can last for up to three hours!

Food is powerful. The aroma and taste of local cuisines can stay with you for a lifetime and be the source of fond memories that are just as strong as those you experience when looking at your vacation photographs.

What To Expect During Opening Ceremonies Of Oktoberfest

The first day of Oktoberfest is truly a fantastic day, the opening ceremony brings forth the largest tent and oldest ceremony at Schottenhamel. When the clock strikes noon, the mayor will arrive to The first keg of beer and yell out “O’zapft is! With this exclamation, the festival is opened and it is truly an exciting time!

If you’re looking for a to witness and the opening ceremony, it is important to arrive no later than 6:45 AM and make your way to the front of the grounds. In addition, considering the morning hours will be rather chilly, you may want to wear something warm and bring a hot drink and something to eat while you wait, or if you really want to go all out and enjoy yourself then try a traditional German dessert served during Oktoberfest

The Oktoberfest gates will not open until 9 AM on the first day, so you should expect to stand in the chilly weather for about 2 1/2 hours.

You will witness that many people drink beer while they wait in line. While this is not officially endorsed by the festival, police tend to take a blind eye to the activities. I don’t know about you, but drinking beer that early in the morning is enough to turn my stomach, even at an Oktoberfest!

One of the greatest thrills at Oktoberfest is seeing the gates open up for the first time at 9 AM, and watching everyone run into the fields. Of course, there is a reason people are running into the festival, there are only so many unreserved seats available, so it is essential to find a table quickly. Take the time to examine the Oktoberfest app to locate the tent that you want to visit so you are not wasting your time once the gates do open. If you are interested in seeing the opening ceremony, you will need to arrive at the Schottenhamel tent. Keep in mind that even if you are at the gates early, it is still quite difficult to get a table inside of this tent. However, if you are quick, you more than likely will be able to secure a table at one of the less popular tents.

Keep in mind that the gates open at 9 AM, however, opening ceremonies will not start until 12 which means you have about three hours waiting inside the Schottenhamel tent. If you’re able to arrive at a table, you’ll be able to play cards and order food with your family and friends. Even if you are unable to get to a table, you should consider yourself lucky. Just be an inside of the Schottenhamel tent throughout opening ceremonies is quite an achievement. The doors to the tent will close rather quickly and you will soon see a line of people waiting to get inside.

On the first day of Oktoberfest, beer will only be served after the opening ceremony at 12 PM. The mayor will tap the keg at 12, then you will hear 12 gunshots as a signal for the other tenants to begin serving beer.

It is important to realize that you are only able to order beer and food if you are seated at a table. One benefit of waiting for opening ceremony is the ability to order pretzels, which are absolutely delicious! These pretzels are sold by girls and boys wearing traditional costumes throughout the 10 with large baskets filled with pretzels.

Once the opening ceremony has finished, you can try your luck at finding a table at one of the less popular tents, however it is usually an impossible mission. A better bet would be to find a table located in the beer gardens just outside of the tents. Many people will find themselves wandering for hours just looking for a place to sit on the first day.

Attending the first day of Oktoberfest is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. Spending the day with a bunch of crazy people overly obsessed with beer that early in the morning is a situation you’ll soon not forget. With that being said, opening ceremony of Oktoberfest is not an essential activity, you can miss it and still fully enjoy the rest of Oktoberfest.

What to Pack for a River Cruise

alaska cruise

You finally saved enough money for a vacation. You decide to go on, let’s say, the Amazon cruise which is absolutely brilliant and will take your breath away. However, there is just one tiny problem. You have no idea what to pack. If you are stuck in this situation, then you should not fret.

A lot of people have faced the same problems. Some handled it well and others, not too well. What makes this so important is the fact that the average room in a river cruise is just about 200 square feet. What this means is that the number of things which you bring in would be limited if you want to breathe and live in that room during the cruise.

So the question of what to pack is very important. Here are some vital things you are surely going to need on your trip.

Umbrellas

Umbrellas are small but can prove very essential. The truth is that you are going on a river cruise and this would surely take you along coastal areas. The likelihood of rainfall would surely be high. The sad thing is that it can happen anywhere and at any point in time.

With this in mind, it would be important that you get yourself an umbrella. If you do not like umbrellas, then other rain gears would also be available. Just make sure that you are covered in the likely scenario that there is rainfall when you are on an excursion. It would save you from the prospect of having soaked clothes.

A backpack

A backpack is always going to be important. You are going to need to carry several things on your trip and you are going to need a mode of transportation. A backpack would fit in perfectly. You would be able to carry a lot of things such as your camera and your water bottle. So make sure that you have a bag with you. Be prepared to carry it while you are walking through. It can be one heck of a trip.

Clothes

This is one of the more obvious things which you are going to need. However, you would have to resist the temptation of having to pack more clothes than you would need. Make sure that you pack more casual clothes as this would allow you to fully participate in the activities that would surely be in play during the cruise.

You would also have to make sure that you pack good shoes for the trip. While you might be a lover of flats, the sad truth is that you would probably not do well if you are on flats. Most of the roads which you will walk on will require an adequate pair of shoes.

Water Bottle

Water is vital even when you are surrounded by water. You would most likely go on hikes and probably excursions during your river cruise. This is because most cruises love to add varieties into their cruise to make sure that their guests enjoy every moment of it. If you are to go hiking, you would surely need to watch to wet your parched throat. So make sure that you take a water bottle with you. Who knows? You may probably have enough water to last you throughout an entire hiking experience.

Battery charger and a backup

No one would want their phone to run down during this fascinating period and I have no doubt that you also feel the same way. With this in mind, you should make sure that you get a battery charger to come along with both your phone and maybe your camera. A battery charger would make sure that your phone is kept filled when it comes to power.

Granted, one battery charger may end up lasting the whole journey. However, you should ensure that you also come with a second charger. The unpredictability of life can see your battery charger blow up right before your eyes and leave you completely stranded. Having a second charger would give you that confidence going into the trip. A battery charger is essential to having a good river cruise. Try not to lose it.

Camera

As earlier stated, a good camera is a must-have. With the advancement of smartphones, the need to get a full-fledged camera has become slimmer. If your smartphone has a camera you are proud of, then do not hesitate to take as many pictures as possible. If it does not, then you might actually need to get a full camera.

You should also make sure that you avoid such things like extra luggage, your computer and things you would most likely not need during this trip. A river cruise is one which is meant to be enjoyed fully. To do this, packing the right things is crucial. It would give you the needed foundation to have the fun that you truly desire.

How to safely enjoy the benefits of CBD as a parent

In this new age of an entire society that is shifting more towards natural therapies rather than pharmaceutical options, one of the most popular products that have taken the spotlight is CBD oil. Though it certainly sounds terrific to have access to therapeutic relief using elements that are easily accessible without a prescription, it is essential to understand all the possibilities that might occur from making such a decision. Here we will talk about what CBD is, where it comes from, it’s potential as a medicine, and the risks to consider before taking CBD oil or considering using it for your kids. All while clearing the air surrounding some of the most detrimental and incorrect myths that have been spreading the globe about this exciting chemical compound.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one chemical component from the cannabinoid family that is extracted and used for both recreational and medical purposes. It exists in the natural oils that some plants produce, and it harvested using several different methods of extraction.

What type of plant species is CBD extracted from?

CBD is one of well over 100 cannabinoids and terpenes that are produced by marijuana plants, but it is found in the highest concentrations amongst industrial strains of hemp. These plans are the ideal base for the extraction of this cannabinoid since they produce minimal traces of THC, which is the psychoactive element that provides the euphoric high that is so often associated with recreational marijuana use. Though cannabis plants used to also produce reasonable levels of CBD, it has been bred out of the genetics from generations of growers whose primary customer base consisted of recreational consumers.

The felt effects of CBD

When you ingest CBD, the results might not be exactly what you were expecting, especially if you had initially assumed that CBD oil was extracted from cannabis plants. Since industrial hemp strains contain such small amounts of THC, chances are you won’t feel too much of anything right away, as it is not psychoactive so it will not interfere with operating a motor vehicle, or other daily parental responsibilities. When you do notice new sensations, they will be light and enjoyable, and for the most part, by the absence of a feeling rather than a whole new one. The pain will diminish as the inflammation dies down, which is one of the main reasons that patients turn to CBD oil, but the effects can take days, weeks, and even months to truly be felt.

How CBD is used

CBD can be used in many different ways, from taking measured doses when a problem or symptoms suddenly arises or multiple times a day as a supplement and preventative measure. It is taken in various amounts, and there is no one size fits all dosage recommendation because each person will react differently to the same dose, and they will often have varying severity in felt symptoms. This makes the adventure of learning the perfect treatment a bit of an experiment, which is why microdosing is almost always recommended for beginners. Smaller amounts will be less likely to cause any type of adverse effects, and larger doses can affect the consumers quality of sleep if taken too late in the evening, so it’s a good idea to start slow and gently increase the amount that is used until you find the ideal dosage for you.

The benefits of CBD

Cannabidiol (CBD) is similar to compounds that our bodies already naturally produce to control normal bodily functions such as hunger or sleepiness. This is why it works so incredibly well to relieve a broad range of symptoms from conditions including but not limited to those that are listed here below.

– Anxiety

– Addiction

– Heart health

– Diabetes

– Appetite

– Acne

– Chronic pain

– Epilepsy

– Glaucoma

– Insomnia

– Loss of appetite

– Nausea

– Parkinson’s disease

– Muscle spasms

Possible adverse effects of CBD oil

Though CBD can be incredibly beneficial for treating many different conditions and diseases, it is possible to experience side effects. Typically, this is caused by consuming large quantities of the cannabinoid, so it is rare but possible to see less than ideal results. However, CBD is non-toxic, so though it may cause some uncomfortable feelings, you will not overdose, and these sensations are generally short-lived. Here are all the reported possible adverse effects that you might encounter while using CBD.

– Mood shift

– Diarrhea

– Changes in appetite

– Dizziness

– Dry mouth

– Drowsiness

– Vomiting

– Nausea

The different kinds of CBD products

CBD oil is by far the most popular treatment option, but many others can suit different needs. These are all the most common CBD products that you might find on the market today.

CBD oils

There are three different types of CBD oil to choose from, and it is vital to recognize which one you buy so that you know how to use it appropriately as well as knowing what CBD oil feels like. One is CBD infused cooking oils that are meant for making CBD edibles and other delicious infused dishes. The second one is a thick and highly concentrated version that is intended for oral ingestion, and the third is also thick and meant for smoking or vaping.

Smokable CBD concentrate

CBD concentrates can take many forms, but in this case, we are referring to smokable options like budder, wax, and shatter. All of which can be smoked or vaped for quick and easy ingestion.

CBD vape juice

CBD vape juice may come in a small squeeze bottle, or inside of a cartridge, and no matter which one you try, these should not be used for anything other than vaping. The CBD oil is mixed with another agent to liquify it to the point that it is efficiently consumed are typical vaping temperatures. If you buy this CBD product and don’t own a vape than there isn’t much that it can be used for.

CBD edibles

CBD edibles are made using CBD oils or tinctures and can take any form. Though CBD candy is one of the most popular options, you can make anything into a CBD infused edible. From popsicles, smoothies, and baked goods to elegant three-course meals. The possibilities are only limited by your ingredients on hand and imagination.

CBD tinctures

CBD tinctures are made by using alcohol to extract the cannabinoid from the plant materials. These cannot be smoked and are typically taken pure or mixed into cocktails or juice.

CBD capsules

CBD capsules are taken orally with liquid and are generally filled with pure CBD oil.

CBD spray

CBD spray is often taken orally, but there are now some options that are meant for topical use, so be sure to inspect the instructions before you make a purchase. These are often made by adding water or other supplements to THC oil so that it liquifies to the point that it can be used in a spray bottle without clogging it up.

CBD beauty products

CBD bath bombs, sun lotions, makeup, face wash, facemasks, and more are now being made with CBD oil.

CBD ointment

Ointments and salves that are CBD infused are meant for topical use. This provides consumers with an excellent option in situations where the pain is only in one area, and a sort of spot treatment would be more beneficial and direct than oral ingestion.

CBD crystals

CBD crystals are the purest CBD isolate available on the market today, which also makes them the most potent. Though you won’t find these made in some guys basement due to the extensive process required to form them, they make the perfect addition to any CBD consumers collection as they can be smoked, vaped, eaten pure, or easily mixed into drinks or recipes with no preparation necessary.

Is CBD safe for children?

Now that you know about the most popular CBD products that are on the market today, it is time to ask the difficult question you have all been waiting for. Are CBD products safe for kids? The truth is that the answer will depend on who you ask. Children are just as susceptible to possible adverse effects as adults are, and smaller, so it takes a lower dose to produce the same results, but in general, CBD products are non-toxic and relatively safe except for tinctures that come paired with high alcohol content.

Should you give CBD oil to your kids?

This is an incredibly personal decision that should be overseen by a medical professional, and the answer will depend on the type of issue that your child is facing. Often a dose of CBD is much safer than many of the pharmaceuticals that are overprescribed today, but it is always recommended that you speak with your family physician before starting a treatment with CBD products, as they do have the potential to affect the efficacy of some other prescription medications.

Tips for buying high-quality CBD oil

Now that you know how to use CBD oil, and the possible effects that this element might have, it is time to focus on the quality of the products that you buy. Whether it’s CBD oil, CBD edibles, CBD creams, or any other type of concentrates, you should always follow these three basic rules to ensure that the ingredients inside are exactly as they appear.

Third party testing

When choosing a CBD product supplier, one of the first things that you should look for is quality testing scores that have been provided by a third-party company. Most reputable vendors will willingly provide this information, as it is required by federal regulation and peace of mind for potential consumers.

Type of plant materials used in its making

It is essential to recognize that much of this industry still operates in a sort of a grey area. Where they aren’t precisely following standard protocols, which can influence your experience with a CBD product. Though pure CBD oils should always be derived from hemp plants, some companies will process cannabis oil instead, and leave out the THC content label. This is not an issue you should ever run into when dealing with trusted vendors, but it is a possibility that you should be aware of, as these oils can get you high and produce unexpected sensations and effects.

Buy regulated products

Whether you buy CBD online or in store, you should always be careful to select companies that have thoroughly regulated and approved products. This is especially important because though hemp strains do generally produce much less THC, regulated CBD oil will contain no more than 0.3% which ensures a psychoactive free experience.

Flying with Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are a common issue among adults, and the symptoms that go hand in hand with vein disorders can be grueling to deal with each day. Varicose veins are most often characterised by the bulging, darkened, or twisted veins that are noticeable beneath the skin’s surface. Not only are they a cosmetic concern for many people, but varicose veins also cause pain and discomfort, ranging from mild to severe.

Living with varicose veins may mean managing swelling and itching at or around the varicose vein site, heaviness in the legs or feet, or aching that does not subside easily. Although these issues can be handled while at home or work, there may be more significant concerns for those flying with varicose veins. It is essential to understand the dangers of flying as it relates to varicose veins and the steps you can take to prevent issues in the air.

The Dangers of Flying with Vein Issues

According to a vein specialist at Radiance Varicose Vein Clinic, the dangers of flying with varicose veins are mostly connected to why varicose veins occur in the first place. When valve failure takes place within the veins of the legs, blood pools in the body instead of flowing back to the heart as it is meant to do. This creates vein wall breakdown, leading to the swelling and bulging often seen with varicose veins. When taking flight, the change in cabin pressure may result in adverse effects on individuals with varicose veins, connected to the potential for a blood clot.

For those who have been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis or DVT, flying with varicose veins may be far more dangerous than when broken vein walls are the only issue at hand. This is because DVT is a condition where blood clots form deep within the veins of the legs. The change in pressure on a flight could cause a blood clot to dislodge and move to other areas of the body, such as the heart of the lungs. Devastating outcomes may result, including a heart attack or a pulmonary embolism.

Having varicose veins does not mean one also has DVT, but the combination of these conditions could mean trouble with flying. Varicose veins may form clots in the legs because blood is not flowing correctly throughout the body, and flying increases the risk of a clot moving elsewhere. To ensure you are safe while in the air, with DVT, varicose veins, or both, consult a doctor first. If they give the green light for traveling by plane, consider taking extra precaution by following the steps below.

Tips for Flying Safely

If you are at risk for DVT or have varicose veins, flying may be both stressful and uncomfortable. One of the simplest steps to take to reduce the chances of complications with varicose veins is to pack compression stockings for the trip. Compression stockings are knee-length socks and add gentle pressure to the legs and ankles, intended to boost blood flow during idle periods. Wearing compression stockings on a flight that is more than a few hours long can help improve circulation while seated.

In addition to compression stockings, experts suggest getting up and moving around during a flight when possible. Planning to stretch the legs and walk up and down the aisle every half hour to an hour keeps the blood flowing, especially on a long journey.

The Need for Treatment

Flying with varicose veins is not inherently dangerous, but if you are also at risk for DVT, certain precautions need to be taken to keep yourself safe and healthy. Compression stockings and scheduled breaks for walking and stretching at the best tools to have at your disposal. It is also recommended to discuss with your doctor ways to minimise the potential complications of varicose veins while traveling, before hitting the skies.

However, it is just as crucial to consider treatment options that reduce varicose vein symptoms or eliminate varicose veins altogether moving forward. Several treatment options exist, including non- and minimally-invasive solutions, so know that there are choices for managing varicose veins in a more permanent way.
