Why Camping Should Be Your Next Romantic Getaway

So you’ve managed to snag a babysitter for the weekend and you and your significant other are suddenly faced with the rare opportunity to get away for a quiet adults-only weekend. You want to plan something romantic but it needs to fit your very large list of criteria – cost-effective, won’t take long to get there, can be done in a weekend, etc.

Maybe you and your spouse have done the spa trip before, done the bed and breakfast, and have even done the stay-cation. If that’s the case, it’s time to step out of the norm and look at a romantic getaway in a whole new light. It may be time to consider camping as the perfect solution for your romantic getaway, and here are the top reasons why.

A Private Adventure for Two

The whole point of a romantic getaway is to give the two of you a chance to enjoy alone time. It’s a time without interruptions from kids, work, and life in general. There is no better way to do that than by trekking out in the woods just the two of you. You’ll get to embark on an exciting and relaxing journey together, free of the outside stressors of daily life. Think about it, when’s the last time it was just the two of you with no-one else around?

Tents Are Perfect for Getting Cozy

Even if you plan on camping in the middle of summer, there’s a good chance it will still be chilly at night. What this means is that getting cozy and snuggling together to keep warm will be an absolute must. And think about it, what’s more romantic than lying under the stars, snuggled in a sleeping bag together, listening to the sounds of nature and wildlife all around you?

Bring Romance to the Campsite

In order to make sure your campsite is romantic there are a few tips and things you can bring along. Why not plan a romantic dinner for two on that first night at your site. You can pack a selection of olives, hard cheeses, cooked sausages, fancy crackers, and crusty bread. It can be a night of appetizers and wine. You can also pack a few different lanterns to create that soft romantic glow of a candlelit dinner.

Speaking of gear, bringing the right items will not only ensure that the trip stays romantic but that it’s also comfortable and safe. You can shop at woodburyoutfitters.com for key items before you leave.

A Chance to Enjoy Talking with Each Other

Let’s face it, nowadays most of us are pretty attached to our smartphones. Having an actual conversation with one another is probably not as common and often as you may think. When you’re camping there is no mobile device to resort to, it’s just each other. This is the opportunity to catch up with each other and just enjoy being a couple.

A Romantic Getaway That’s Outside the Norm

Camping is truly that romantic getaway that is outside the norm but could quickly and easily become your new romantic getaway of choice.

Off-Broadway’s PUFFS is going HOLLYWOOD

On Saturday, February 3rd and Sunday, February 4th, 2018PUFFS (or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a CertainSchool of Magic and Magic) will shoot PUFFSLive Off-Broadway for worldwide audiences.

The event will define the euphoria of achieving the best of two worlds – on one stage.

Co-Directed by the hit show’s director, Kristin McCarthy Parker and cinematographer Kathryn Jones, the five-camera, two-day shoot will capture the hilarious, inexhaustibly accomplished and acclaimed cast; as they dazzlingly and dizzyingly portray 53 certifiably off-balance and uproariously entertaining characters.

Both the hit Off-Broadway show and the anticipated Live Capture are produced by Tilted Windmill Theatricals’ John Arthur Pinckard & David Carpenter.  The groundbreaking and critically celebrated script is by Matt Cox.

The Live Capture project took shape at the insistence of the burgeoning multitude of fans continually asking when the show would be playing in their city.

When the cameras roll, PUFFS will make history as the first Off-Broadway show to offer its fans the rare opportunity of participating in the films’ creation by joining in a Kickstarter Campaign being made available for a limited amount of time.

There are eleven of them.

These are comedic geniuses who have been acclaimed by the New York Press Corps and sold-out audiences alike at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street) where they opened on Saturday, July 8th.

On stage, they start out running, somewhere around 80 mph, kidnap the audience and continue the journey gaining momentum until they blow the roof of the theatre.

When producers, David Carpenter and John Arthur Pinckard, established Tilted Windmills Theatricals, they did so to re-energize and re-vitalize both the creative and financial possibilities of the American Theatre.

PUFFS: Live Off-Broadway will prove their Mission Statement and then some; while delivering PUFFS to the entire country.

They produce at the intersection of the Performing Arts and the Popular Arts; a lucrative and now very busy corner.

On September 29th, 2017, they celebrated the First Anniversary of the universally acclaimed comedy’s journey to National presence.

On November 4th, 2017, they celebrated their 100th performance Off-Broadway at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street – between 8th and 9th Avenues.)

THE LIVE CAPTURE

There are 400,000,000 wizard enthusiasts alive today.

They now have the opportunity to support the creation of their OWN LIVE CAPTURE for WORLDWIDE DISTRIBUTION.

Currently being heralded as one of the funniest productions on sale in America, PUFFS takes a second look at everyone’s favorite world of wizards through the eyes of the Puffs, a lovable group of magical misfits.

When playwright Matt Cox began writing PUFFS in July of 2015 most everyone in the theatrical community knew he was elevating the American comedy to new heights.

His vision was groundbreaking.  His voice was unique.  His results were hilarious.   Even his choice of composer, Brian Hoes, to write the original score was inspired.

Over 25,000 people have seen PUFFS to date.  The Live Capture will increase that number one thousand fold.

PUFFSLive Off-Broadway will be shot at New World Stages with a live audience.

The Final Cut will be available to rent or download.

Great Holiday Toys For Kids (And Kids at Heart)

Getting ready for the holidays can involve a fair amount of shopping for the kiddos. Here are a few items we know are sure to be on a lot of lists this year.

If your children love cars, or shows like Pokemon or Battlebots, they will enjoy the Power Rippers™ 2-IN-1 Competition Set. This set is very complete, and makes a great gift that comes with everything you’d want or need. It includes a Track Set and Battle Arena, dual loops that you can reconfigure for side-by-side racingas one long track, a crash zone and “epic jump” when your toys reach the end of their track. They can use the Battle Arena to- you guessed it, battle each other (or mom and dad).   The set comes in its own case, which makes for easy storage, clean up, and take along as well. Grab yours anywhere that sells toys for about $29.99.

Justice League BIG-FIGS™ take action figures and super size them for giant fun and BIG play. These are great for both the kids and collectors in your life- ok, and the “big kids”, too. ( I can think of more then one adult who would love them.)  Choose from Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, and my son’s favorite, Cyborg.  They are detailed, though not fully articulated, and include items like soft capes and removable accessories.  These BIG-FIGS™ are priced right at $19.99, so they are a “big” value as well, considering the regular sized figures usually start at about $11.99.

Have a Nintendo fan? Have they played Splatoon? (If not, you guys are missing out, as we have mentioned previously, it is a lot of fun!) This toy is based on the hit videogame by Nintendo, the Splatoon™ Splattershot Blaster brings into real life all the fun, mess (not really!), and strategy the game is all about.  You and your kids can play all day with these blasters that fire water-based compound up to 30 feet.  Each Splattershot Blaster comes with a pair of Inkling Goggles and two compound canisters that are good for up to 50 shots each.  You can get yours on stores like Amazon for about $29.99. I’d pick up at least 2, so you can play together.

Based on the hit Disney movie, the Glow ‘N Style Rapunzel doll showcases her blonde hair- on this doll, down to her toes. Your child will spend hours of styling and playing with it.  When they push a button, Rapunzel’s signature magical hair will glow as she sings the award-winning song from the show, “I See the Light.”  She wears her well known dress and coordinating shoes, and comes with six hair clips that your child can also wear. One is even in the shape of her chameleon pet, Pascal, which is adorable.   The suggested price of this doll is $34.99, but I’m seeing it for prices all over the chart, so shop wisely.

Smooshy Mushy are an adorable and new collectible craze that your kids as well as any adults who like to fidget will love- honestly, these serve a dual purpose.  Fun and useful! Inside each Smooshy Mushy package you will find one of eight random Pets. Unwrap it’s container to find out which scented Smooshy Mushy you will find- even the packaging is cute, really- milkshake or ice creams, for example.

Every pet comes with a “Bestie” they like to tag along with, so make sure you keep them together.  Each of the currently available 24 food themed sets also comes with a “what’s your smooshy name?” game, a nametag, mini container, stickers  a poster.  There are also rare and ultra-rare Pets. $9.99

You can collect more Besties by picking up a  Smooshy Mushy Snack Pax.  These are 39 random blind bags which include a Bestie, a poster, and a game. $2.99

Have you started your Advent Calenders yet? It’s not too late if you haven’t- and PLAYMOBIL has a fun variety to choose from. You can choose from sets like Santa’s Workshop or an NHL Hockey theme, or even a more non traditional set like the “Jewel Thief Police Operation” which is fun and silly -every day, your child opens another door and finds a new surprise waiting behind it. There is also a cardboard backdrop to place figures and toys/props on, to help create the intended theme should you so desire.  Don’t forget the non-holiday sets as well- PLAYMOBIL recently released super fun playsets from Ghostbusters (with highly accurate details, lights and sounds, great accessories, and more) and How to Train Your Dragon. Prices vary, but we love PLAYMOBIL for their long term play use, creativity, bonding time, as well as how well made and sturdy they are. These are definitely on our holiday lists this year.

3 Tips to traveling to the Sahara Desert with family

Sahara Desert is the largest hot desert in the world. In fact, it’s almost as big as the United States mainland! The desert boasts of breathtaking features and an inviting scenery that deserves to be viewed at least once in a lifetime. Planning a trip to the Sahara Desert with family is a splendid idea. You can view the subterranean aquifers, intermittent streams and oases that satiate the landscape.

There are numerous salt lakes and volcanic hills in the Sahara Desert as well. River Nile, the longest flowing river around the globe, is located in this desert. Along its banks are beautiful olive trees and cluttered settlements, truly a sight to behold.

Here are 3 tips to use while travelling in the Sahara Desert with family:

  • Plan your finances beforehand

Before heading out to the Sahara Desert, first establish how much money you need for the entire expedition. Good news is, travelling to the Sahara isn’t half as expensive as travelling to other landmarks. You can book a two-night trip for less than $150. However, the trick is to book beforehand. Planning an excursion in the Sahara Desert is the perfect opportunity to bring the entire family together, even when your budget is tight.

The desert climate is pretty harsh – it can get really hot during the day and awfully cold at night. But this adds an exciting twist to your entire touring experience. So pack appropriately before heading out there.

  • Prepare your family for a camel ride

One of the main highlights of travelling to the Sahara is riding camelback. Admittedly, getting on a camel’s back can be a frightening experience among children (and some adults). Most people only get to see a real-life camel in pictures and videos. When they finally see the huge beast up close, they panic and opt out. On the contrary, riding a camel is one of the most thrilling experiences you can have. It get your adrenaline pumping, allowing you to get in the shoes of the nomadic people who inhabit the Sahara desert – albeit for a few hours.

The desert is a pretty windy place, so carry your scarf along to protect you from the flying silt that hovers around. Also wear sunscreen and carry a hat if you’re uncomfortable with the glaring rays of the sun. You’ll also need to hydrate – carry a bottle of water if you can.

  • Don’t forget your camera

You are bound to see lots of eye-catching landscapes and gorgeous sites while travelling through the Sahara Desert. There’s also rich culture and traditions from local communities. You’ll want to capture every moment of your stay – and what better way to do this than by carrying your camera with you? Get to view the beauty of the Nile in its entirety. The pictures you take will forever remain a shining memento that you can show your friends. Better yet, your kids will have something to talk about when they get back home.

10 Signs of Alzheimer’s You Shouldn’t Ignore

Alzheimer’s disease is known to disrupt life but can gradually develop over time. Each person is different with the signs and symptoms that they experience as they age. If you’re concerned about your health, there are a few signs of Alzheimer’s that you shouldn’t ignore.

1. Difficulty Speaking or Writing

You may begin to have problems speaking or writing, which can make it difficult to maintain your responsibilities in the workplace. It can also become more challenging to join in on the conversation with your family members or friends due to a lack of finding the right words to say while communicating.

2. Changes in Mood

Although you may be a happy and joyful person, it’s common for many people to become anxious, fearful, or depressed once they develop Alzheimer’s. You may also find yourself becoming more confused and have difficulty thinking clearly. Mood changes are more common when you’re out of your comfort zone, which is often in public settings that are new or unfamiliar.

3. Losing Items

From your keys to a book you’re reading, it’s common to begin misplacing and losing items that are frequently used. Many people have difficulty remembering their last steps, which can cause the individual to accuse other people of stealing the personal belongings.

4. Poor Judgment

Responsible adults who begin to suffer from Alzheimer’s can start to have poor judgment with their decisions that they make each day. Family members may notice that the individual gives large amounts of money away to a salesman or overspends at the grocery store. It’s also common for the adult to have a lack of grooming, which can include forgetting to bathe or not brushing their hair.

5. A Lack of Social Activities

Adults who once had an active social life and enjoyed a long list of hobbies can become more reserved and spend most of their time in isolation. Alzheimer’s is known for causing adults to have difficulty maintaining hobbies or sports that they once enjoyed. Due to their lack of mental clarity, it can also make it challenging for them to maintain their relationships and spend time with loved ones.

The isolation or a lack of activity can make it easy to become more depressed and have less enthusiasm for life.

6. Daily Tasks Become a Challenge

Familiar tasks that are performed routinely can become more challenging, which can include cooking in the kitchen or exercising. Some people may begin to forget how to drive to work while others forget the rules to a game that they often play. You may begin to feel like simple tasks are no longer easy and that you need help completing specific projects.

Some individuals begin to feel like they’re losing their independence due to their new reliance on other people.

7. Financial Issues

Due to the challenges that come with thinking clearly and having a good memory, those who have Alzheimer’s can begin to have financial difficulties due to their lack of cognitive function. You may start to have missed payments on your bills, which can result in late fees. Maintaining a budget can also be difficult, which often leads to over-drafting your bank account and acquiring debt. It’s essential that a family member steps in to assist with the finances and get them back in order.

8. Confusion with the Time or Place

Disorientation is considered to be an early sign of the disease that can make it easy to forget where you are and what time of day it is while you’re at home or are in public. Some people begin to get lost while others lose track of the season or the time of year. The person’s perception of time can change, which can cause five minutes to feel like five hours. You may notice that the individual tells you that they haven’t seen you in several months even if you see each other on a weekly basis.

9. Forgetting Familiar Faces

Those who have Alzheimer’s are known for having difficulty recognizing loved ones, which can include family members and close friends. As the disease progresses, they can forget who their spouse or children are, making it necessary to discuss old memories and stories to help refresh their memory. Many individuals are prescribed medication or supplements to increase their cognitive function over time.

10. Changes in Vision

Although many of the symptoms that are associated with Alzheimer’s are cognitive, some people also begin to have issues with their vision. It can become increasingly difficult to read the words in a book or on a computer screen. Colors can also begin to look more similar to one another and can be difficult to differentiate. You may begin to have difficulty driving due to the poor vision, which can lead to accidents that begin to occur more frequently.
