U-Verse Review: Will AT&T survive the changing field of telecommunications?

AT&T has been the leading network provider since the telephone networks were established. Not
without good reason though. AT&T is the pioneer when it comes to telecommunications. The nature of
the company is rooted to the invention of the telephone itself. After Alexander Graham Bell invented
the telephone, Bell tried to sell the patent to Western Union. The telegraph and mailing giant refused
the offer. Bell was then forced to sell the patent to his financial backers. These two backers had later
found the company that grew to be AT&T.

Due to its head start in the telephone industry, AT&T has always been in the lead. Perhaps no one would
argue about this as AT&T still currently has the most number of subscribers among all the network
carriers in the USA. It also ranks as the 14th wealthiest country in the world, second only to petrol
companies.

Currently, AT&T is planning to use its lead on wireless communications to dominate another market;
specifically, the TV industry. Because of advancements in IT technology, almost all forms of data can
now be sent as a computer file. Because of this and the switch of the TV to digital signals, AT&T, who is
already well versed in the field of wireless (and wired) communications and data transmission, had seen
TV as a viable investment.

This latest set of services that is offered by AT&T is called the U-Verse. U-verse is the newest brand for
AT&T’s TV, internet, and telephone services. The big question is: “Will U-Verse be enough for AT&T to
completely dominate the communications industry?”

We will be answering this question by observing the key criteria for customer subscription namely
internet speed, TV package, telephone services, data reception, customer support, and bundle price.
You can always skip to the summary if you do not want to view the nitty-gritty of it. But if you want
informed opinion and some explanation regarding the scores, then I encourage you to read through.

INTERNET SPEED
AT&T U-verse offers a basic internet package for $38 at 3 Mbps. Its premium package is offered at $63
per month with the speed of up to 24 Mbps. Sure it’s not as fast as Verizon FiOS but it sure makes up for
it. However, there are other more competitive internet providers, such as Verizon and Comcast, that are
providing faster traffic at the same affordable rate. According to a study made By FCC, verizon Ranked
number 1 in terms of speed, Cox and Comcast battles it out for number 2 and AT&T is in a tight battle
with everybody else in the middle. In terms of internet speed and reliability, AT&T U-Verse has much to
prove; hence an 8 out of 10.

TV PACKAGES
Like its internet service, AT&T’s TV packages are affordable and competitive. U-Verse offers only local
channels with its basic package, but starts to shine at the higher tiers as it can offer up to 430 channels
(with access to 145 High Definition Channels). However, it is not enough to topple down leading TV
providers such as DirecTV and Comcast Xfinity as these two have better HD channel selection and
more channels to offer (DirecTV). Verizon FiOS also have a better DVR than AT&T. AT&T’s TV package is
competitive, but not the best. We will be giving AT&T 8 out of 10 because of this.

TheFind.com Catalogue App

Every Sunday there is a ritual in our house, as usually kids get up early and wake up daddy- who for some insane reason likes waking up early. Daddy makes breakfast and then gets the newspaper from outside. Now the real fun begins- the toy flyers. Little goes nuts because he gets to see all the new toys and all that jazz. What if this weekly ritual had a new twist?

Instead of waiting for Sunday and the newspaper to be delivered, what if those very same catalogs could be read through (with 100’s more as well) from your tablet or smart phone? Sounds like fun? I think so. Check out TheFind.com.

The Find brings just about every catalog you could imagine to your finger tips through their website, Iphone/Ipad App, Android [Read more…]

DACRON Memorelle Pillows Review and Giveaway

How long has it been since you upgraded your pillows?

When they do a good job, you don’t think about them one bit, but when they don’t that is another story completely. I am sure a lot of you have seen memory foam pillows and mattresses and thought they are top of the line. One of the chief problems with memory foam bedding is they are solid bricks of memory foam, you can’t really fold a memory foam pillow in half and prop yourself up when you are sick. And for me- they are too hard. Another issue is they absorb heat quickly, if you are a warm/hot sleeper, these beddings will get uncomfortable quickly. The ideal material would be something in between a regular cotton pillow that is malleable but also give and supports like memory foam.

Dacron has come up with just such a fiberfill with their newest Memorelle pillows. [Read more…]

Grocery Shopping for a Huge Family on a Tiny Budget

If you have a huge family chances are your most hated chore, and the one you do the most often, is grocery
shopping. The larger your family, the steeper your shopping bill. It may have gotten to the point where
it’s half your monthly budget, and you don’t see a way out. It’s a numbers game. The more happy people
housed under your roof, the more hungry mouths you need to fill. But not all meals or shopping trips are
created equal. There are a ton of ways you can cut your grocery shopping bill without sacrificing the health
and happiness of your family. Here is a quick peek at a couple ideas you can use right away to slash this
month’s shopping bill and rescue a budget on life support.

Try to do the bulk of your grocery shopping at one store, and familiarize yourself with their sale schedule.
Grocery store circulars come out every week, with a new string of promotions roughly every three weeks.
So make note of when your staples hit the sales circular, and buy in bulk your most common household
purchases. If you can pick up all the cereal, meat, juice and fruit your family goes through in three-week
chunks, you’ll realize the highest discounts. Get to know the people that work in the meat department in
your supermarket, and find out when they mark down their short date stock. Each store will have a certain
time of day when they switch out the marked down meats, and by waiting until then to purchase, you’ll be
able to save huge on the best cuts of meat.

Consider what you purchase a bit more carefully. Coupons are fantastic, and can save big on your
monthly food budget. So take the time to clip them, and buy what’s on sale if it is something you need.
The important [Read more…]

Whitney Farms

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Whitney Farms for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
Spring is…springing supposedly. This evening in the north east we actually had to put the heat on for a bit, but anyway. Spring is here. Time to till the soil and get the ground ready for that gorgeous garden that is sprouting in the back of your mind. The soil in our neighborhood is ok, but needs a lot of work. We compost and fertilize etc etc, this year we are going to give organic a shot. One of the most difficult parts of this is plant food.
