And This Week on #NSNation @Nutrisystem

I have just about nothing to say this week, as I was on travel. I ate only my Nutrisystem breakfast bars, but I ate regular food for the rest of the day, as I had mentioned was the plan in last weeks update. I do though, bring my workout DVDs and resistance bands, and between that and all the walking that travel usually brings, I can usually keep the food-monster in check, LOL. I had a .5 lb gain this week. Cest la vie. I will knock it off by next week, by going back to my regular diet and exercise program. Life is life, and that can get in the way of losing weight sometimes. I’m not going to go nuts about it, since I know that I will get there, and I know I am doing alright (especially considering [Read more…]

Clearwater, Florida- A Great Place to Vacation Year Round!

What’s better then waking up to the smell of the ocean? Not a whole lot.
Sigh.

View from the balcony

Little Man on the beach

We started out our day with a fun Surry Bike ride from Fun Bike Rentals, right here at the Hilton Clearwater Beach Hotel. (Did I tell you this place had everything, or what?) The kids rode up from while daddy and I pedaled. We took the surry up the wide sidewalks, and down the beach a little bit. The kids had a really good time, and it was a fun way to get around and see the area.

Then we were off to Captain Bligh’s Landing Miniature Golf– a cute 18 hole mini-golf adventure that is fun for the whole family. Little Man especially enjoyed the pirate ship- and chasing the ball around. OK, so he didn’t really “get” mini-golf so much, but he had a great time playing, LOL. Bonus? There is a game-room attached to the campus. You can also buy soda, water, and ice cream- and guess what? They won’t even gouge you on the prices. A soda is only a dollar. Gotta love it when places actually keep in mind that families will be attending- and we all have budgets!

How cute is this, by the way? Clearwater is all about dolphins, and Captain Bligh didn’t forget that when decorating- check out the Captain’s very own [Read more…]

THE HELP AND FEEDING AMERICA CAMPAIGN TOGETHER TO FEED AMERICANS IN NEED THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

FEEDING AMERICA, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity, and the DreamWorks Pictures movie THE HELP, are joining forces this holiday season to help feed Americans facing hunger. Coinciding with the DVD/Blu-ray release of THE HELP on December 6, a national donation campaign will run from December 1 to December 11 to generate food and funds to help feed the 1 in 6 people in the United States who do not have enough to eat.

“The economic downturn really hurt American families,” said Feeding America Director of Media Relations Ross Fraser. “As a nation, we need to come together to help our neighbors who are struggling to make ends meet. The collaboration between FEEDING AMERICA and the producers of THE HELP is a great example of how we can come together to make a difference.”

“The film’s hopeful message of creating change along with its home entertainment release during the holidays inspired the team here to reach out and help make a difference in people’s lives,” noted Jeff Small, President and Chief Operating Officer of DreamWorks Studios. “FEEDING AMERICA seemed the perfect fit in that it operates nationally but is focused locally and housed within the communities it serves and will directly benefit those in need. We’re happy THE HELP can help.”

To help put food in the hands of as many people/families in need this holiday season, FEEDING America and THE HELP are asking consumers to please help contribute in one of the following ways.

It’s this simple:

DONATE ONLINE – Every $1.00 donated can help FEEDING AMERICA provide meals eight meals for people in need. People who make online donations at www.feedingamerica.org/thehelp <http://feedingamerica.org/thehelp> between December 1 and 11 will receive a limited-time $5.00 off coupon toward the purchase of the film THE HELP on Blu-ray or DVD. Touchstone Pictures, the affiliate of The Walt Disney Company that distributed THE HELP, will provide a matching [Read more…]

Perricone skincare G!VEAWAY

So it’s pretty clear by now that I strongly dislike the winter nasty. Boots, skinny jeans, and chunky sweaters (as cute as they are) aren’t doing it for me and this dry gray scaly skin; it’s just not my thing.

In my efforts to ward off the dermis mangling stuff I’m always looking for ways to salvage my skin, my beloved peels can only go so far, cause ya need some moisture and a lot of it! Problem with most creams and potions is that they are goopy and pore clogging so the pursuit for something that won’t add to my issues is usually a long one.
Apparently I’ve been living under a rock or something because when I came across Perricone MD I mentioned it to a friend and she was “Oh yeah! I use that stuff too” and my sister apparently uses it too. So why haven’t I tried it? Guess I should come out from under that rock a time or two.

Dr. Perricone is regarded as the Father of the Inflammation Theory of Aging. His holistic approach to aging treats the inflammation that causes aging in three ways: through diet, nutriceutical supplements, and his award-winning line of skin care products and cosmeceuticals. Through his program this type of inflammation can be stopped, which slows down the skin’s aging process and even reverses existing damage. The effects of his program are not only visible externally but will enhance your life with better overall health and increased energy….

Woo Hoo! Sounds good so far! The doc had me at holistic, his blog delves into diet, supplements, and skincare regimens that are all complementary of each other. Makes sense that they would all be related in the battle of aging.

My sister, who is fabulous at a little more than forty years old, reiterated the claims that Perricone md cold plasma and high potency eye lift are the only items she uses…..Adds to the interest, right? I think so.

I personally love the no foundation [Read more…]

Save Zoar- A Historical Settlement in danger in Ohio @zoarohio

Why would anyone want to destroy a historic German settlement in Ohio? Who would do such a thing? Our federal government, that’s who. Zoar was founded in 1817 by German religious separatists to set up a communal society in a new way of life. Zoar is unique in the way it is preserved. A walk around Zoar is like stepping into a time machine. Everything is pristine, and you will be taking a stroll though our history.

Little Man, my grandmother, and I had a great time in historic Zoar– we checked out a metal-working shop, amazing gardens, a bakery, a tin shop where the town’s cups, bowls, etc were made. We saw the actual artifacts that the residents used, and were led on a tour by a descendant of the people of Zoar- her father had lived and worked there all his life. A quiet, hardworking, unassuming people who came to America for a better life and an opportunity for their families, they were often separated from each other for months and years at a time trying to pay back the loan from the land.

Take a look at more of our photos from our trip to Zoar here– and let me tell you, fall is a great time to visit.

These people wasted nothing- and especially not time- and did not have easy lives. These German separatists, mostly farmers, were persecuted in their own [Read more…]

Caring for your Cast Iron Cookware

With hundreds of kitchen new kitchen gadgets launched every year, you might be surprised to hear that one
of the most popular pieces of kitchen hardware is one of the oldest, cast iron cookware. The heat retention
properties, coupled with their adaptability and longevity (some brands even offer a lifetime guarantee). To
ensure that you get the best out of your frying pan, casserole or any other cast iron kitchenware you might
have then follow these simple dos and don’ts.

Remove all labels and bathe your lovely new Le Creuset in hot soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly.
If non-stick, rub with cooking oil to condition.
Unless boiling water or cooking a stock or sauce, use medium and low heats, even when frying or
searing. Once the pan’s hot, turn down to a lower setting, as cast-iron retains heat.
You can put your cast-iron cookware in the oven at any temperature, if the handles are cast-iron or
you have stainless steel knobs. Just make sure you use oven mitts or a thick, dry cloth when touching
the handles or lids, as they’ll be super hot.

Use wooden, heat resistant plastic or silicone stirrers and cooking utensils. You can occasionally use
metal, but don’t knock on the rim as this damages the enamel.
Allow pots or pans to cool before washing and make [Read more…]
