Puss In Boots for Xbox 360 Kinect- Daddy’s Corner

Puss in Boots is the newest Shrek based film by Dreamworks. As with most current movies there is a game tie in. This tie in was developed by THQ for the Xbox 360 Kinect. The Kinect is a very cool piece of hardware which reads where you are and as the commercials say, ‘you are the controller’. It’s really neat and there is alot of potential. Puss in Boots introduces us to some of this potential in a kid friendly game about the swashbuckling feline Puss in Boots. This has some good moments and some tedious moments but overall is quite good. One must keep in mind this is a movie tie in and classically they are not of the highest quality, but Puss in Boots breaks this mold with a fun Kinect game. The meat and potatoes of the game are Adventure and Challenge. Adventure is the story of the game while Challenge is made up of various 1-2 player mini games involving game mechanics learned in the game. Challenge is unlocked throughout the game and is best played after the Adventure mode is beaten.

Adventure mode is very fun it follows Puss in his various adventures including sword fighting, sneaking, dancing, and playing guitar. All of which are controlled by intuitive easy body movements. An example is sword fighting is started by first gesturing as if pull out a sword then swinging up and down to swing [Read more…]

HexBugs Review and Get Yours Here!

I am positive you have all heard of HexBugs. Those odd little bug-like robots that are brightly colored and seem to be kid magnets. The HexBugs line up is constantly, well evolving, and one of their most recent additions are the larva. These are very creepy crawly insects that look like brightly colored maggots. These larva react to objects in their path. That means if you happen to get in front of it as it is crawling along the table, it backs up and goes tin the opposite direction.

On the surface, it doesn’t seem like much- but when it is part of the crawling tail wiggling etc., it makes for a very odd and creepy creature. HexBugs are very interesting as single creatures but you definitely get more of the Bug activities when you have more then one reacting to one another. It gets to the point where you get weird-ed out they are so realistic. The movement and reactions of the Bugs are so alien and bug like they really creep out the kids, to the point where they didn’t want to touch them. But after some prodding they were laughing and playing with them too.

HexBugs are fun for both kids and adults. Kids think they are cool and weird. Adults are curious and interested.
I know this sounds, bad but HexBugs shine in swarms. If you ever get a chance check out a big set up of the Nano Habitat. It is mesmerizing how ant/swarm/bug like they all move/interact and in general move about.

Getting Through the Holidays without Gaining a Pound

There’s a reason why losing weight is the most common New Year’s resolution; it’s because the holiday
season is fraught with opportunities to overeat. And we’ve become so accustomed to this cultural
feasting that it can be extremely hard to break the habit. Couple that with the fact that emotions run
high at this time of year (and many families feel that food equals love) and you can not only be fighting
your own desire to eat everything, but also the guilt that comes with turning down food that your family
members have worked hard to prepare. It’s a double whammy of weight-gain temptation. But there
are ways you can manage your caloric intake and make it through the holidays without gaining a pound.
Here are just a few tips and tricks that might help.

1. Practice portion control. Whatever you’re thinking of putting on your plate, consider cutting it
in half. If you’re like most people, you’ll load up your plate with food and then make yourself
sick trying to eat it all. Consider that during a regular meal you might have on main dish, a side,
and a veggie. During the holidays, you could be facing a table full of entrees and sides, plus
vegetables loaded with calorie-laden sauces. By cutting each serving size in half (half a piece of
meat, half a scoop of potatoes or stuffing, etc.) and eating slowly to savor your food, you’ll find
you get full before your plate is empty and you’ll stop yourself from seriously overeating.

2. Walk it off. There’s no reason you can’t sample all the foods you love this holiday season, and
you’ll have a much easier time maintaining your weight if [Read more…]

Keeping Your Children Safe In and Around Cars

It is estimated that an automobile accident occurs in the United States every sixty seconds, and of the
millions of crashes that occur each year, approximately 40,000 will result in fatality (according to the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA). If you don’t find these statistics alarming,
perhaps it is because you are a recluse or you prefer public transportation. But anyone who drives a car
regularly is probably keen to check the safety features on their vehicle right about now. And if you have
kids, safety in and around cars becomes even more imperative. So here are just a few tips for parents
out there looking for some peace of mind.

1. Child seats. This is the first and most important tool in your arsenal when it comes to protecting
your child from harm while in a vehicle. You might think that at a certain age it is okay to let
your child ride without a seat, but in fact, most specifications are based on weight, not age. And
while your state has regulations that will tell you when it is legally safe to allow your child out of
a car seat, you should check standards for other states and follow the strictest rules in order to
ensure the best protection for your child.

2. Trunk release. While it is not terribly common for kids to become trapped in a trunk, it’s not
entirely unheard of, either. So warn your kids about the perils of getting into the trunk while
you’re not looking and make sure that they know where the trunk release latch is in case they
do become trapped. If your car has no release from the inside, show your kids how to get
through the back seat or simply check the trunk before you close it.

3. Child-lock doors and windows. [Read more…]

Shopping for Tyson Chicken #TysonGoodness and #CBias

We decided to try our new Tyson products after Little Man’s new dance class- he is always super hungry afterward. Kids are usually hungry after sports, did you notice that? As a former athlete, I can personally attest to that, haha.

Can you find him? Yep! ONLY boy, haha.

Our shop this time was not so smooth- even though we called ahead to make sure that our Wal-Mart carried the new Tyson Mini Chicken Sandwiches, they did not once we got there. So we decided to make our own with the Tyson Chicken patties and Tyson Chicken strips. Never say never, right? 😛

We were super bummed out- they were also all out of the mini “Joker” figurine and the ZhuZhu “Chunk”- so this was just not our day, haha. Cest La Vie, yes? Moving on!!!

My son loved his chicken patty [Read more…]
