Old Orchard Review

I was recently sent some of Old Orchard’s new line of Cranberry Naturals to try out. I was already a fan of Old Orchard, and they have some great juices that I get for the fam already. I like cranberry juice and cranberry juice blends, since they keep curb urinary tract infections and keep your kidneys happy!
They also have great antioxidant powers- but sadly, no cape 🙁 Poor powers!
(Can you tell I am really tired? LOL)
We got to try Classic Cranberry and Cranberry Raspberry.

With Cranberry juice, I like to mix it with seltzer and make a cranberry soda for me. The kids get it as it is (yes, I do mix it with water for healthier teeth, I know!)
But the hubs drinks it with everything. Mixes it with OJ, with “grown up” beverages, drinks it the way it is- he’s a fan. The Cranberry Raspberry is sweet [Read more…]

How is it Sunday already?

What happened to the weekend?
I don’t really have anything to add on this subject- I just don’t know what happened!  It went too fast!

Holiday Gift Guide- Worry Woos- Review and Giveaway!

First of all, I love the concept. Monsters in my head is a really great idea, as are the Worry Woos themselves. Having these great books to read to kids, as well as the sturdy, sweet plush stuffed animals that “match” each book, help kids identify, recognize, and validate their emotions. The message of “Embracing your Emotions” is an important one. Kids that are able to express themselves as well as recognize their own emotions and deal with them are less likely to develop “bad habits” or have low self esteem, and are more likely to succeed academically. The sources I can use to cite this are endless.
The books explore complex emotions that all children have likely felt at sometime or another.
The lovable plush characters bring the stories to life, as well as help the child feel both comforted and comforting. I noticed with Nola, the Monster of Loneliness, that the kids seemed to want to make her feel loved, as well as that they used her to help themselves not feel sad and lonely.

I brought Nola and her book to the school one day with a particular child in mind, who has been miserable since her brother left to go to another school. (He aged out and is in public school now.) She has cried for him endlessly. We all read about Nola’s troubles, and talked about what Nola had to figure out to feel better. This child held on to the stuffed Nola all day long, and tried to make Nola feel better so Nola was not lonly anymore. The child also took a nap with Nola, so Nola wasn’t alone at that time, either. When the time came that Nola had to go home for the day, the child told me it would be OK, because Nola was going to go home with all the other Monsters now, and she was going to go home to her brother in a few hours, and now she was going to play with her friends. !?! It had been months since she played with her friends. MONTHS. I think that just by knowing she was not alone in this sad and awful feeling of being lonely, the child felt validated. I also think that because she was able to “help” Nola, she felt like she could move forward a bit in her own struggle with this feeling.

Besides using these books in the school, where the kids loved them, and we had some really cute discussions, I brought the Worry Woos to our Adopted Families group. The kids there have a wide age range, and come from a variety of backgrounds. There are some emotional issues there. Yep. I wanted to let the kids and parents try the books out and see what they thought of them. Fuddle and Rue were popular monsters there. Only a few of the kids were adopted older and have memories of birth families or birth countries, but almost all of them have identity issues and personal conflicts of one kind or another. I think the simple stories (though the emotions are not simple, the stories are straightforward and easy to follow) and sweet, lovable characters made it easier to talk. Plus, since we are talking only about the monster’s sadness, and not our own (of course), it is easier to talk about, [Read more…]

Whirl a Style Review

This is kind of a cool product. I think it can appeal to so may kinds of people. easy hair management.
I am NOT a girly-girl. Never was. Sorry! I wish I had it in me, but try as I might, I can never get my hair right, do my makeup so I look natural, and I can barely paint my nails. If I bother. Not that I often do. I do like to wear nice clothes and shoes, but that is the extent of it! (and faux jewelry, LOVE it, ha!)
But I digress.
My hair. Is. Always. A mess. ALWAYS. I do try, I just fail. A lot. And since I leave so early for work, I don’t put in any effort on weekdays. It makes me embarrassed sometimes, but I have a job where I am in a constant state of mess. I am always wearing someone’s glitter, paint, yogurt, etc. (And that is the not so bad stuff!) But I wish my hair would just stay looking somewhat decent. I have tried so many things, and nothing ever works.
I have fine hair, and it’s super long. No product can handle that. Whirl a Style was not easy for me to use at first- please remember I am not good with hair- but after a few trys, I got better. It shows and “easy 1,2,3” system, but It was not that easy for me. [Read more…]

Sniffle Buddies Review

Here is something new. I have never heard of something like this before, and honestly I was totally grossed out when I got the email. Ok, before you stop reading this, just give it a chance. It’s kind of strange, but, if you think about it for a second- you will see the point.
Kids wipe their nose on their sleeves. They do, it’s gross, no point denying it. Working at a Pre-K, I see more snot in a day then I think many people see in a lifetime, LOL, and I can tell you 70% of it never makes it to a tissues, no matter how hard I try. And I do try. If we go outside, I bring the tissues with me. If I see them wipe their faces on their sleeve or hand, it’s right to the sink to wash hands. But I don’t see it all. And there is nothing I can really do when it is on their sleeve or coat, just wipe it with a wet wipe.
(Isn’t is great to be a mom? Always talking about body functions, LOL)
Sniffle Buddies was created with this in mind, for scratching a nose and runny noses that end up on your child’s sleeve.
Gross? Yep. But it happens anyway, so you may as well be able to take it off and wash it, rather then just know it’s there. And you can pretend you’ll just wash the coat- no one washes it every time it gets just a little messy. Be honest, momma! Come on, I see all the coats. I know who washes what, when. Hey, I only wash coats every 2 weeks or so, too, I’ll be honest! Lucky for me, Little is clean about his nose. He runs to me for tissues at the slightest thing. Kamikaze- not so much. She is with a filthy coat all the time. I send her with tissues and chap stick- which she promptly loses and then puts boogers and blech all over her coat. So, she [Read more…]

Holiday Gift Guide- Go! Go! Sports Girls Dolls- GIVEAWAY!

Have you ever been disgusted with the dolls on the market today? I know I have. So had been mom Jodi Norgaard when she decided to start up her own line of Go! Go! Sports Girls.
“I realized there was a need for a positive doll for girls that would be age appropriate, proportioned properly and send a positive message about a healthy lifestyle – physically, mentally and emotionally – through sports.”

So many dolls in today’s market have unhealthy body types, are too thin, have super long legs or large chests, wear awful and revealing clothes, have peircigns, etc. Not images I really want for my 6 year old, thanks. She does not need any more pressure on her then she already has. As adults, we are constantly bombarded by images and campaigns to be thin, beautiful, have shiny hair, perfect chest, fashionable clothes, etc. Our daughters feel that, too. Why let thier toys put pressure on them?

My Kamikaze was sent Softball Sam to review. She loved it. Kamikaze was so excited when Sam got here. Sam has a backpack full of softball fun, she is all ready to go play! Best part? She looks like a kid! Nothing unhealthy there! And you can choose a vairety of skin tones and sports to find what fits your daughter the best. That’s aweosme, in my opinion.
I hope you all saw the Go! Go! Sports Doll video posted a few days ago, if not, go HERE and check it out!
This fun and appropritae doll will be finding it’s way into quite a few gift boxes this year, I think. Make sure you check the website for all the varieites avalable- there is something for everyone!
By the way- these dolls just won 3 [Read more…]
