Morey’s Piers in Wildwood, NJ

Growing up stinks. We are forced to leave behind so much in order to mature, playtime ends. Toys and coloring become school and reading, which then become work and and family. But one of the few things we get to keep are memories. What better way to build those wonderful memories and also relive our own then with the boardwalk? One of the most well known of these summer time attractions are Morey’s Piers at Wildwood, NJ. I personally have every single summer vacation there from birth through age 15 (when I started to travel on my own) as well as spending lots of special occasions there, such as homecoming and prom.

KidZania – Give Kids a Chance to be “Grown Up” #Travel

As parents, we all struggle to get our children to understand that money doesn’t grow on
trees. We want them to be responsible, work hard, and learn to save a few bucks. But
these lessons are among the most difficult to teach. Enter KidZania, an internationally
acclaimed—and truly unique–children’s theme park that makes life a little easier for
parents, and learning a whole lot more fun for kids of all ages.

kidzania
KidZania is not a traditional theme park in almost any sense of the word—there are no
roller coasters or merry-go-rounds in sight. There are, however, plenty of attractions and
activities that will keep your children busy, active, engaged, and excited all day.

According to the company, “KidZania provides children and their parents a safe, unique,
and very realistic educational environment that allows kids between the ages of four to
twelve to do what comes naturally to them: role-playing by mimicking traditionally adult
activities.” Unfortunately, that doesn’t come close to capturing the essence of KidZania.
What makes it so much fun is that it’s a kid-sized city—complete with restaurants,
banks, grocery stores, and hospitals—where the kids get to be adults, doing the things
most of us do on any normal day.

They start by picking one of nearly 100 “careers” and learning about it. Then, they put
on their uniform and are ready to work—and to earn KidZania dollars (“Kidzos”).
Most activities are universal (such as firefighters, police, and reporters) but some are
localized to reflect the distinct flavors and personality of the country and region where
the park is located and to keep it real and authentic for the kids.

Kids get paid for every job they do, which helps them explore the mysteries of managing
money. Kidzos in hand, they can spend it save it. If they run short of money, they’ll have
to find a way to earn some. Kids can also create bank accounts (for Kidzoz), file taxes,
and get tax refunds, and even decide how KidZania’s tax revenues are spent. There’s
even a court system, run by KidZanians. If I hadn’t seen it myself, I would never have
believed that it was possible to introduce kids to politics and government without boring
them half to death.

Each KidZania city is planned in amazing detail, even including real world brands that
help sponsor the city and keep it running. I was a little wary of all the popular corporate
logos, but the brands weren’t [Read more…]

Travel Gastronomically the Italian Way

“Buon appetito!” or the more popular “Bon appétit!” are common phrases we never fail to
overhear and say when wishing someone a good meal. But then, have we ever stopped
to think about what these phrases “truly” mean? What truly defines a good appetite? Isn’t
it simply about eating a lot of delicious food? Or is it about eating similar to a
connoisseur, a gourmet or a gourmand?

pestoThis curiosity has led my mind to wander to and my appetite to discover what it is like to
dine in “Bellissimo” Italy. Well if you can’t travel geographically then might as well travel
gastronomically!

To start with here are 7 simple basics to keep in mind:

1.Let your mood do the talking. Italians don’t follow recipes to the detail, instead they
go with the mood of the season or simply whatever mood they are in. Invent versions
of your traditional bolognaise, bruschetta or risottos. Don’t be afraid to make them
spicy, cheesy, savory or even slightly creamy instead!

2.When planning your menu, plan according to what’s in season at the farmers market.
Always stock ingredients fresh. Be they meats, herbs or vegetables.

3.Basic key ingredients in Italian recipes are; Olive oil, Garlic, Tomatoes, Herbs and
Cheese! Experiment with the variety of cheeses and herbs to flavor, season and
tease your palate.

4.Onions and garlic add depth and builds flavor. Most Italian dishes begin by sautéing or roasting them in olive oil
is.

5.To drink, have a glass of wine to complement your taste buds while eating. White
wine is best with seafood and fish while Red wine with meats.

Thermal Strike Luggage – Review and Giveaway

When is luggage actually an instrument of death for arthropods? When that luggage is Thermal Strike. Thermal Strike is a new FAA and TSA compliant luggage line available in 20 inch carry on and 24 inch stow away sizes. On the surface, they look like sleek protective luggage- but inside is hidden an infrared heater, which when plugged in, brings the content of your baggage to 140 degrees. This temperature is then held for 2 1/2 hours, which will kill bed bugs in any part of their disgusting life cycle. After this bug baking party is over, it is safe to open your luggage and put your clothing away without the fear of bringing home unwanted pests.

hard luggageBed bugs might not be in the news every night anymore, but with just one pregnant bug an infestation can take root. An infestation could start with your bed or closet, but quickly spread to your walls, floors, [Read more…]

5 Tips for Selecting a Family Tour Package for Your Next Vacation

IMG_0041A lot goes into planning a family vacation, from ordering airline tickets and booking rooms to arranging for transportation once you’re there. And it all gets more complicated when you’ve got kids in tow. It’s no longer enough to book any old room, you need to find a hotel that is reputable and clean and you have to make sure to get a non-smoking room on a non-smoking floor, not to mention enough beds to accommodate the whole family, or perhaps even adjoining rooms. And all the hassles of travel can definitely be exacerbated by having to keep track of a pack of little ones in addition to yourself. But you probably still want to play the tourist game in order to get the most out of your time away from home and work, and setting up tour packages is a great way to reduce the stress and headaches associated with seeing the sights. Here are a few tips to help you select the right ones for your family.

  1. Kid-friendly accommodations. You’re no doubt familiar with the double-decker tour buses designed to show you the skyscrapers of Times Square or the homes of Hollywood stars. But these types of open-air transport with nary a seatbelt in sight may not appeal to parents who have the safety of their children to consider. [Read more…]
