Legos- Fun for Fall

Ahh, it’s a scary LEGO! Yes, the scariest LEGO of them all- the dreaded small brick sitting sideways in the middle of the carpet at night. This evil beast loves to roll around your floors while everyone is sleeping and wait for an unsuspecting bare foot to trample it, thus giving it it’s sustenance- profanities. The choicest cuts being those spewed at 2:00 am on the way to the bathroom. Up until now there was no one to help you fight these beasts, but fret no longer, the Monster Fighters are here! Just kidding. Sort of. 😛

The Monster Fighters are actually here to fight Lord Vampyre in his quest to collect all the moonstones and block out the sun thus letting the monsters spread across the land. This newest line involved eight Lego construction sets ranging form the colossal Vampyre castle to the Werewolf Ambush. As always Lego has the fun of building with the quirky fun of Lego, sly smiles and gnarly monsters make for a very good Lego set. We had the chance to try out the Werewolf set which included two mini-figs, the werewolf and Major Quinton Steele. Both of which include a ton of accessories like claws and weapons. There is also a special werewolf launching ambush tree and the Major’s hot rod which is a really nice addition. A great set to get you a good feel for the new line of Monster Fighters.

Up next is the something for our younger Lego fans, Duplo. Duplo are the prefect size for little hands, and curious little ones who may want to “taste” the small regular [Read more…]

Dreamworks How To Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular

When I first heard about the live performance of How to Train Your Dragon it sounded interesting, but boy was I in for a surprise. The show is a spectacular combination of music and sights, for both adults and kids to enjoy. The show is filled with wonders, such as the combination of live action and video. One part of the show was created to look like the actor is running along a path- but in reality it was an actor running through projected and real scenery while hanging perpendicular to the screen, then all about the stage (and wall) area. The dragons were amazing, the robotics involved to make these creatures move, roar, shoot fire or lasers is truly fantastic. Shadow dragons flying above or shooting fire completed the effect, along with pyrotechnics that shot flames and tied it all together.

The pre-show Hero’s Welcome package was a great idea. The package included all of us getting dressed up as vikings for a posed picture, then meeting the main human characters (Astrid and Hiccup) for photos and Dragon Training Certifications. After the show, they had an explanation of how things worked. Pretty in Pink had to take her certificate for show and tell in school, so that she could show everyone that she is now a Dragon Trainer (she was so proud). Little Man was absolutely aglow from the idea that he was a viking and he had a chance to hold a sword and a shield. He also wanted to hug all the dragons- so no worries that they will be too scary for your little ones.

Tips on Shopping for Your Teen’s First Car

If you were a teen looking for a new car, you’d likely want something loud, fast,
and flashy. Most teens are trying to impress their peers, and this is exactly the attitude
that gets them into trouble behind the wheel. As a parent it is your job to temper your
teen’s desire to act in a foolhardy manner and it starts with the car you allow him to
drive. Although you’re probably fine with putting him behind the wheel of your old-school
minivan, rife with safety features, the truth is that you probably need that car. As a
result, you might be looking at getting your teen driver his own sets of wheels. So here
are just a few tips to help you go about in in the right way.

  1. New vs. used. There are very few cases in which a teen driver should get a
brand new car. The major exceptions would be advanced safety features, alternative
fuel options, and hands-free technology, all of which are more readily available on newer
vehicles. Still, you could look at certified pre-owned options that are only a year or two
old. The idea here is that your teen is likely to ruin a first car, not only with accidents,
but from the pure wear and tear that a new driver will heap on his vehicle as he hones
his driving skills. This isn’t to say that you should cheap out on a car that barely runs,
but considering how much money you stand to lose, it doesn’t make sense to buy new in
    most cases.
  2. Consider associated costs. Another thing to think about is the additional costs
that come with buying a car. New cars will have higher registration fees and insurance
premiums (especially since you have to hold a full coverage policy while paying a loan),
while used cars may include more maintenance. This is one great reason to check out
certified pre-owned vehicles; their sticker prices are greatly reduced and most come with
a partial or even a full warranty.
  3. Check consumer [Read more…]

Mending Things With Dad

Some dads wish to reconnect with their kids; however, they may not carry the knowledge necessary for taking on such a task. The information below may help a father establish a relationship with his offspring:

Take a Trip

If a father wishes to make a connection with his child, it is a terrific idea to consider going on a trip. The trip does not have to imply spending a lot of money; it is essential to aim for something that is enjoyable for everybody. Some fathers may wish to take to the road. They may wish to go camping or otherwise explore the highway in an RV acquired through Dave Arbogast RVs or any local RV dealer. If a father does not wish to use a car, it is possible to purchase a plane ticket and fly to a suitable destination. It is up to the parent to decide on something appropriate and affordable.

Be There When Necessary

It is not enough to organize a road trip; if a father wishes to make amends, he should be there when his child needs him. If his child calls him on the phone, he should answer it; if he cannot, he should call the child back as soon as possible. It is a poor idea to procrastinate. The child may assume that the father does not care. If a child has a question or problem, the father should attempt to help. The father should also call the child as often as possible.

Listen and Pay Attention

Listening skills are vital for any relationship; a child should feel that he or she [Read more…]

remote services vs sending off

Tech Support comes in many forms and factors including in home tech support and remote support as well bring your computer to a technician. There really are only three ways to go about fixing a royal screw up on your system. And those are:

Bringing your system into a PC repair shop. The drawbacks are it can take a long time to get to your system, plus you don’t really know what is happening to your system as well who is doing it. This can be unnerving for some but the best option considering the drop off pick up convenience.

There is also the option of remote accessing your system, via remote desktop and file transfers as well as downloads. The downside to this is, no system, no help. There must be some way to connect to your system, which can be the main issue to begin with. The positive is, you can see exactly what is going on [Read more…]

Top 5 Tips to Prepare Your Teen for High School

It can be jarring to go from middle school to high school, and your teen might not
always be ready for such a transition. There are all sorts of new students, probably a
larger campus, and a new class structure that your child will have to familiarize him- or
herself with, and such a task can seem daunting, even to you. As a parent, there are
actually a few things to make sure your teen is properly prepared for his or her high
school experience, and most of them don’t actually cost a thing.

  • Time Management

Learning how to balance your time is an important part of being in high school.
Your teen will likely play some sports or join a club of some type, so you want to make
sure you’re instilling habits and practices around the house that will help your teenager
be familiar with good time management and understand its importance — it’ll become
especially vital as your teen starts to take on more and more responsibility.

  • Don’t Let Eighth Grade Get too Easy

One of the biggest problems with the end of middle school is that it gets way too
easy right before the transition to high school takes place. You can help avoid this by
encouraging learning-oriented activities and making sure your teen takes care of regular
responsibilities around the house.

With the end of middle school being as easy as it has a tendency to be, and the
uninterrupted of relative freedom and independence that follows it, the transition to a
