This section of the city is well known for its shopping and nightlife. It’s the perfect match for the younger crowd, as well as the seasoned veterans of the city. There are enough music clubs to fill your nights, and enough places to shop to fill your days. Ever heard of Santa Monica Boulevard? If you want to visit this hot spot, come with an appetite. This strip of road is lined with restaurants for those who want to see and be seen, such as Sunset Beach or Katana.

West Hollywood is also well known as the home of Sunset Strip, where you can visit great music clubs like the Viper Room or stop by The Comedy Store. If you want to sit at a café and watch for celebrities, you want to stop by Sunset Plaza on the strip. Some of the best, most luxurious hotels in west hollywood are along this stretch of road.

2)Studio City

If you like walking and moving at a leisurely pace, Studio City is the place to visit. This was once the mecca of homes for the actors working for studios. Now it boasts some of the most upscale dining and shopping in all of LA. Do you love sushi? You want to take a walk down Ventura Boulevard’s famous “sushi alley” to get a wide variety of great rolls.

Studio City is the perfect section of LA for the foodie. Just stay close to Ventura Boulevard and enjoy a wide variety of high-end cuisine.

3) Universal City

Want to take a studio tour and enjoy great shopping? Visit Universal City. This section of LA became famous for its studio backlot tours, drawing in a large crowd of tourists. You can Ride the Movies, visit Universal Studios Hollywood, and shop. Heard of CityWalk? It’s a stretch of shopping that inspired the modern version of malls. It’s full of restaurants, novelty shops, street performers, and more.

During your trip, you may want to plan for a few extra days on the side to visit Santa Barbara. You can enjoy wineries, the beach, and the mountains all in one laid-back location. And it’s only 90 minutes from LA.

3 Simple Tips for Cleaning Your Home After Water Damage

Water damage in your home or basement can wreak havoc on your property and your wallet. Not only can water damage ruin your most prized possessions, but it can also leave behind mold, mildew and structural damage. Luckily, if you act quickly, you may be able to minimize the damage to your possessions. Depending on how recently the water damage occurred, you may be able to save some furniture or carpeting. To get you started, here are some tips for cleaning your home after water damage:

1. Never ignore sitting water. If you detect flood water in any part of your home, it needs to be addressed immediately. Whether you are dealing with a damp basement or an inch of standing water, this can quickly develop into a mold problem. Not only can mold grow in walls, carpets, and furniture, but it can also cause poor indoor air quality. This can lead to respiratory problems such as asthma or other severe illnesses.  The best way to avoid these issues is to prevent the growth of mold by protecting your home from water damage.

2. Assess the damage. In the event that water does find its way into your home, the first thing you will need to do is assess the damage. When possible, try to dry the affected area and clean it with products that are designed to destroy mildew. Use fans in wet areas to help them dry faster and more efficiently. Likewise, a heater can help dry wet areas by removing moisture from the air. Depending on the size of the wet area, you may be able to use a hair dryer instead of a fan or heater.

3. Enlist the help of a professional. When left untreated, water-damaged areas can quickly become a breeding ground for dangerous mold. Even if you think you managed to dry up all the water, it is still a good idea to have the area examined by a professional.  Companies like DKI Services are specially trained to handle a wide-range of water damage related issues. This includes everything from mold remediation to hoarder cleaning services.  These professionals are highly-trained and can help ensure that the water damage does not further impact your home or air quality.

Dealing with water damage can be stressful, but it does not have to be. Follow these simple tips for cleaning your home after water damage and you will be well on your way to a clean and mold-free house.

What’s New at Dollar Shave Club

Disclosure- The following was sent for review in order to facilitate this post. The items were reviewed by my husband, who wrote (much of) this post. For more, see “I Disclose”.

As a man, there are fewer things more mindbogglingly annoying as buying a razor.  Many of them are locked up behind a counter, as well as being astronomically priced- but they are necessary evils.

Or so we thought- with the internet, there is now a way to get blades for an entire month for as little as $3.  Dollar Shave Club is here with a great deal for anyone who shaves.  As an introduction, prices are reduced so getting into the swing of using the club saves you money as well.  Once up and running, it is possible to get refill blades every month then after delivered to you for as little as $3.  But razors and handles aren’t the only shaving items available.

There are also components for every portion of your shave, such as a pre shave oil to rub into your skin,  shaving special lathers, and/or a post shave balm to help keep that sensitive skin moisturized and healthy.  One of the best parts is that there is no heavy scent.  No flowers, no herbal scents, just a light clean scent that leaves you smelling fresh and well groomed.

A shave and a shower becomes much more of a cleansing event with your new shaving rituals.  The oil worked nicely and I suggest it.  Makes shaving a bit easier and less damaging to your skin.  We also tried out the post shave balm, which smells nice and is a thin, quick absorbing skin cream.  You may be asking yourself, well what if I don’t use that many razors a month?  Well, for you there is the option to have a refill of blades delivered every other month as well as pausing and canceling the subscription at any point in time.

Dollar Shave Club is surprisingly easy for a good product, so be sure to check them out soon.

Cream of Tartar, Recipes and More

If you ever bought a can labeled cream of tartar and got a powdery stuff inside, don’t worry, there is nothing wrong with either your eyesight, or the product. That’s the way it is supposed to be. Cream of tartar is an acidic substance that also goes by the names of potassium bitartrate and potassium hydrogen tartrate.

This powdery substance is actually, a by-product of the process of making wine. Who would have thought, right? Well, I wouldn’t be so keen on writing about cream of tartar and its many uses if it hadn’t been for an article I read the other day. It contains everything there is to know about cream of tartar, from culinary uses to those that go beyond the kitchen.

Prepare the Perfect Dessert with Cream of Tartar

When preparing a dessert like cakes, cookies and meringue pies. Because, let’s face it. Preparing a delicious meringue pie is not enough if it doesn’t look inviting. And to look inviting the topping should be fluffy. The answer to achieving this fluffiness lies in whipping the egg whites. More precisely, you should add a 1/8 teaspoon for each egg white while you are whipping. So if the recipe calls for 3 egg whites you add 1/8 teaspoon x 3. This will help the formation of air bubbles and you can rest assure your topping won’t be flat. What’s more, cream of tartar when added to eggs will increase their tolerance to high temperatures.

Say you need whipped cream to top your cupcakes with. A recipe as simple as this one will call for a pinch of cream of tartar to be added to a cup of heavy whipping cream, two tablespoons of powdered sugar, and a teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Uses of Cream of Tartar Beyond Cooking

There are plenty of helpful uses cream of tartar can be the star of. They are all pretty much connected to the kitchen in that cream of tartar can help you clean your burner pans and give your old copper kitchenware its shine back. An even simpler mixture, that of water and cream of tartar will be a great aid in cleaning steel appliances and removing scratches from them.

If this is not enough, cream of tartar can be used in the bathroom as well. A teaspoon of cream of tartar and a cup of white vinegar will make the magical solution that will help you remove mildew and mold in your toilet.

This incredible powder can even help you save your stained clothes. Only a pinch of it mixed with some lemon juice will do wonders with stained clothes.

If you are flabbergasted by all these uses of cream of tartar too, then go ahead and buy a can next time you go grocery shopping. It will be handy at any time since you will only need a pinch, be it for recipes or other uses, and its shelf life is pretty long (of course, provided that you keep it in an airtight container in a cold and dark place).

How to Avoid the Creepiest Spring Pests with Natural Pest Repellant

Spring is finally here! By now you may have started to see the first signs of winter coming to an end such as warmer weather, flowers blooming and even the return of a few unwanted guests that have been hiding away all winter long. Spring brings out the pests, which makes the beginning of this season the perfect time to prevent an infestation before it begins, and doing so doesn’t have to mean exposing your household to dangerous toxins. Fortunately, Stay Away® by EarthKind® offers natural pest repellants that are both safe and effective.

If you are afraid of spiders, here’s a creepy thought- during the spring is when the spider population multiplies! Spiders mate in the fall and their baby eggs hatch in the spring. To prevent spiders and their babies from infesting your home, Kari Warberg Block, pest prevention expert and founder of EarthKind® , recommends the following:

  • Use a spray made of half a cup of water, half a cup of vinegar, two tablespoons of liquid dish soap and 20 drops of thyme oil. The scented mixture has been used to prevent them from attaching their silk to sprayed surfaces.
  • Invest in a natural spider repellent, like Stay Away® Spiders. Made with Citronella, Lemongrass and Rosemary, Stay Away® Spiders disrupts a spider’s sophisticated senses, keeping them out of treated areas with a scent pleasant to people, but offensive to the insects  that spiders eat. No food, no spiders! Use one pouch anywhere webs or spiders are noticed, such as basements, closets and attics, increasing the number of pouches until desired results are obtained.

A recent entomological survey of North Carolina homes found spiders in 100 percent of them, including 68 percent of bathrooms and more than three-quarters of bedrooms. If you live in an area with a warmer climate, chances are you have at least one creepy crawler lurking around your home.

Not afraid of spiders? Finding a moving box of rice inside your pantry might be enough to make your skin crawl. The pantry moth is considered to be the true definition of the word pest. These pests can affect everyone no matter where you live or how clean your home may be. Pantry moths live in dry food products throughout the United States such as cereal, flour, grains and even pet food. It only takes one female to enter your home and she can quickly cause an infestation with her ability to lay 300 eggs at a time. Once the eggs hatch, they will feed on and infest all the dry food in your pantry. Kari has the following tips to prevent pantry moths from making themselves home in your food this spring:

  • Check all packages inside and out for small holes, cocoon webbing, or off-white moth larvae.
  • Store foods in airtight glass, metal, or plastic containers.
  • Place a non-toxic Stay Away ® Moths pouch in your pantry to prevent any moths you may have brought home from reproducing. Stay Away® Moths works by using a unique blend of essential oils that smell offensive to moths, but pleasant to people. It’s safe for your family, the environment and your food.

Stay Away® products are available for purchase online and at your local Lowe’s and  in select ACE locations nationwide.
