Planning the Perfect Party Food

pic4

Food brings people together in a very special way, so having the right foods at your next gathering could be the make or break point at your party. Take this advice and be sure to be prepared the next time you’re playing host and want to make a good impression.

  1. Know your Audience
It’s important to remember, when you’re planning the menu for your party, the food is for your guests first and foremost -not you. Know what kind of crowd will show up, and be sure to take note of the occasion. For instance, it’s probably not wise to serve escargo at a superbowl party, likewise hot wings probably wouldn’t go over tremendously well at a dinner party.
  2. Have the Right Tools
Party supplies are a big part of any gathering. You may have prepared the most terrific dish that suits your party guests perfectly, and has everyone’s mouth watering, however if you have no forks, plates, napkins, and other utensils there’s no point really, as no one will be able to enjoy the food eating with their hands.
  3. Try New Things
Yes, your fudge brownies are amazing; yes, your guests do like eating them; but no, they do not want to eat fudge brownies every single time that they’re over. There’s nothing wrong with having favorites, but it’s important to mix things up and bring something fresh to your party to keep your guests on their toes and coming back for more.
  4. Variety
Going back to the Superbowl party scenario covered previously, hot wings are probably a good fit for that type of party -however, if there’s nothing else but hot wings there, your guests may become a little bored. It may also be a problem if you serve nothing but hot wings, only to learn that your guests don’t actually like hot wings. Mix up your menu, and offer dishes that compliment one another.
  5. Keep It Simple
It can be easy to get caught up planning your menu and wanting to impress your guests, there’s nothing wrong with that. However, if your dishes take an entire day to prepare, are complicated to serve to a large number of people, or are difficult to eat, maybe think about taking it down a notch. Your menu doesn’t need to be a 5 star restaurant’s caliber to be impressive, keep it simple and allow your guests to enjoy the food without working too hard.
  6. Have a Back-Up Plan
There are always things that you can’t plan for, there is never a “perfect” party. This rule applies to food as well, unexpected things such as allergies, or spilled dishes can occur and as a good hostess, you should be prepared for them. Have a backup dish ready in case of emergency, always.

Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival for the Wii U

Disclosure- We received the below in order to facilitate this review.  All opinions are out own and honest. For more, see “I Disclose”.

pic4

Animal Crossing has been a fan favorite series of games where players try to make their character as happy as possible through a regular routine.  This includes helping friends, making friends, fishing, gardening, and even home designing.  The most recent entry in the series is Amiibo Festival which is described by Director Aya Kyogoku, ” we just wanted Animal Crossing Amiibo [toys]”. We wanted the company to make Animal Crossing Amiibo, so that’s why we made a game that works with them.”

In this regard it is a success- there are eight character amiibos in the Animal Crossing line so far, they include Isabelle, KK, Tom Nook, Mabel, Digby, Lottie, Reese, and Cyrus.  In addition to amiibo compatibility, you can also use the amiibo Animal Crossing cards as well to unlock more game modes and characters in the game.

pic6

This game is similar to Mario Party, but it has a much slower pace so little ones can keep up and follow the action on screen without getting lost in game play.  What we really like about the game is you can save your “happy points” to your amiibo and use them to unlock more costumes.  Also, if you happen to have designed your amiibo’s home using the Happy Home Designer for the Nintendo 3DS, your home design shows up in game as well.

My son loves this game because of the cute animal designs and the ability to carry over your game data from Happy Home Designer into this game.  It has become one of his favorite games- it’s up there with Pokemon if you can believe that. There is precious little he enjoys more then animals, and in this game, it’s all about making them happy and being cute.  What’s better then that?

Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival is available now for the Nintendo Wii U. It is sold everywhere games are sold for $59.99 and includes 2 amiibo Animal Crossing characters bundled with the game itself.

The Buccaneer Resort in St. Croix

pic4

Modern hotels that have a historical background are always a treat to visit. The Buccaneer St. Croix  is an amazing hotel in a beautiful, perfect paradise. From sugar, to cotton and cattle, the Buccaneer has pretty much seen it all. It officially opened for business in 1947 and had only eleven guest rooms at that time.  It was the first hotel in St. Croix and was a major achievement for the family who founded it.

The guests were known as “continentals” and would enjoy their stay with drinks, visits to the beach, painting furniture, and of course with great meals. Nightly cocktails were a must. Things have not changed all that much, and you can now enjoy music and great food along with the cocktails. There are several restaurants to choose from, and some must try cocktails  include the Cruzan Confusion, Raising Cane, Caribbean Sunset, and Jump-Up-and-Kiss-Me.  The food is amazing, and no matter if you choose to eat in the restaurant or beach-side.

It’s amazing to think that the Buccaneer has been around for 70 years and three generations that have made the St. Croix community that much more lively and enriching. The Buccaneer is proud to be a supporter of the National Park service with the three month turtle watch program. They are also very committed to community services around the area and to funding scholarships for students to attend college.

There are lots of fun things to do while you stay at the Buccaneer, and you can be sure that you are being environmentally friendly while you stay. The hotel has tons of environmental practices in place to make sure that they are not creating excess waste, are conserving energy, and also that the wildlife is able to live around the hotel freely as it should on the 340 acres.  You will see iguanas roaming about fairly regularly, for instance.

The Buccaneer has been named as One of the Best Family Resorts and with great reason! They have lots of activities and amazing accommodations when it comes to family fun, as well as relaxing time with your spouse and kids. There are three beaches where your family can enjoy snorkeling, kayaking, and just plain lounging around. Children have lots of room to explore, splash, and play without being overrun by a lot of people.  The waters are calm, clear, and warm- perfect for anyone.

beachsunset

The waters are warm even at night, and the sun sets over the water. Boats can come pick you up for a day trip right off that dock- ask the front desk for some information. (Big Beard is great!)

If you were looking to learn something new on your trip, there are classes to learn how to play golf, tennis, and even scuba diving that teens and adults can participate in. For the younger crowd (4-12) there is a complimentary Kids’ Camp. Fantastic. There are also activities for the whole family to enjoy together such as soccer, basketball, and volleyball. You can sail and snorkel. If horseback riding is more your style, then you can have that arranged as well.

resturaunt

The restaurant by the main lobby has amazing views from every angle, and the staff is friendly and courteous. It’s a hard place to leave. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all served here, and live music is often played.

The Kids’ Camp has all sorts of activities for the younger of the clan to enjoy. These include activities on the beach, treasure hunts, nature walks, games, and crafts. These are all available to you during your stay year round. The kids are allowed to stay for the entire day or they can stay for just a little while to give parents the time to explore and enjoy activities on their own.

St. Croix is more than just the Buccaneer, however and you will want to explore the town and it’s monuments. There is also a rainforest, rum factories, historical sites, and botanical gardens to cross off your list to see while you are visiting. (I’ll tell you about my favorites in the next post.)  Try something new or see something that you have never seen during your stay, this place is amazing.  Easily one of my favorite places, and that’s saying something.  If I were you, I’d look into a stay in St. Croix as soon as possible. The people, the food, the music, the history- it’s a place that stays with you long after you land home.
