Homeownership

Hello boys and girls its time to start thinking about home ownership. In this volatile time it is best to learn how to make a sound investment. As of now one of the most common investments in America is home ownership. Classically home ownership has been a sound investment, building equity in your home slowly over time. Currently there is a bit more of a question involved in that line of thinking. Mainly how much is my home worth now, and how much will the home be worth in 30+ years. What is the current mortgage rate? Where can you get a mortgage? Where can we put the swing set? What kind of insurance do I need and what is it for?

There is so much excitement and change associated with buying a home, that it is easy [Read more…]

Having the Menopause 2nd Talk with #PoiseFab5 #Cbias

What business do I have talking about menopause? Too young, you think? Well, maybe- but lucky me- I get to go through a fantastic menopausal journey, courtesy of medically induced hormone treatment. (And NO, I am not trying to get pregnant, please!)

Poise Feminine Wellness Products #PoiseFab5 #Walmart

Are you now super jealous? Try not to be- one day, we all get to go through it, LOL. As for me- I get to do it twice! Once now, and once when I am actually supposed to- YAY ME! Hmmm….well…maybe not, but hey, what can you do, right? You can try the new Poise products to combat the side affects of menopause, take off the edge- at least feel less gross and melt-y, LOL. (Is it hot in here???)

Check out the new Poise Feminine Wellness products, which cover everything from personal hygiene to “intimate” matters. Mom may have talked with you about where babies come from- but did she ever tell you about hot flashes, night sweats, and wild mood swings? No? Well, then ladies, you need to ask!

If you have not had a period for at least 12 months, that is one way of knowing that you are in “the change”. But that’s not all- all those pretty side effects are usually a hefty tip-off. Menopause usually begins around the age of 45-55, but it all depends on your family and personal medical history.

My aunt has been dealing with menopause issues for as long as I can remember- she is always, ALWAYS hot- even walking around in the winter in t-shirts, shorts, and flip flops. The first time I had a hot flash, I felt like someone had “lit me” from the inside- it was sudden, unexpected, and I felt both insane and disgusting. (I sweat…..a lot…and felt really frantic- I had no idea what was happening!) All I wanted to do was peel [Read more…]

Las Vegas, the Perfect Destination for Everyone

You’re not much of a drinker or party-goer, but for some reason, you are ending up in Las Vegas on vacation. Although it may seem like you are a fish out of water, you would be surprised at the number of people, who just like you, accompany others to sin city, but don’t spend their time gambling or drinking and still have a fabulous time.

The Vegas Lights

A must-see for any Vegas visitor is the strip at night. The bright lights, billboards and outdoor shows are excellent. Head over to the Bellagio and take in the spectacular fountain show that is set to go off every 15 minutes. Be sure to take good, strong walking shoes if you plan on walking the strip – it is long and there are lots of things to see. Hop on a bus that makes a giant loop around the strip and really enjoy the night shows and lights.

Walk around and enjoy the street vendors, shows and people. You’ll meet lots of interesting folks that have fun talents.

Visit the Different Hotels During the Day

Go up the Eiffel tower and see the Vegas strip from above. You’ll have fun listening to the staff speak French. The interior of the Lux hotel is spectacular, walk around the pharaohs and enjoy the peace of the falling waterfalls. While there you can enjoy the King Tut museum. Head over to the Venetian to see the sheer beauty of old Venetia and enjoy seeing the gondolas go up and down the water ways.

Walk over to the Excalibur to see the jousters on horses and enjoy the fun game room in the dungeon. [Read more…]

Legos- Fun for Fall

Ahh, it’s a scary LEGO! Yes, the scariest LEGO of them all- the dreaded small brick sitting sideways in the middle of the carpet at night. This evil beast loves to roll around your floors while everyone is sleeping and wait for an unsuspecting bare foot to trample it, thus giving it it’s sustenance- profanities. The choicest cuts being those spewed at 2:00 am on the way to the bathroom. Up until now there was no one to help you fight these beasts, but fret no longer, the Monster Fighters are here! Just kidding. Sort of. 😛

The Monster Fighters are actually here to fight Lord Vampyre in his quest to collect all the moonstones and block out the sun thus letting the monsters spread across the land. This newest line involved eight Lego construction sets ranging form the colossal Vampyre castle to the Werewolf Ambush. As always Lego has the fun of building with the quirky fun of Lego, sly smiles and gnarly monsters make for a very good Lego set. We had the chance to try out the Werewolf set which included two mini-figs, the werewolf and Major Quinton Steele. Both of which include a ton of accessories like claws and weapons. There is also a special werewolf launching ambush tree and the Major’s hot rod which is a really nice addition. A great set to get you a good feel for the new line of Monster Fighters.

Up next is the something for our younger Lego fans, Duplo. Duplo are the prefect size for little hands, and curious little ones who may want to “taste” the small regular [Read more…]

Dreamworks How To Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular

When I first heard about the live performance of How to Train Your Dragon it sounded interesting, but boy was I in for a surprise. The show is a spectacular combination of music and sights, for both adults and kids to enjoy. The show is filled with wonders, such as the combination of live action and video. One part of the show was created to look like the actor is running along a path- but in reality it was an actor running through projected and real scenery while hanging perpendicular to the screen, then all about the stage (and wall) area. The dragons were amazing, the robotics involved to make these creatures move, roar, shoot fire or lasers is truly fantastic. Shadow dragons flying above or shooting fire completed the effect, along with pyrotechnics that shot flames and tied it all together.

The pre-show Hero’s Welcome package was a great idea. The package included all of us getting dressed up as vikings for a posed picture, then meeting the main human characters (Astrid and Hiccup) for photos and Dragon Training Certifications. After the show, they had an explanation of how things worked. Pretty in Pink had to take her certificate for show and tell in school, so that she could show everyone that she is now a Dragon Trainer (she was so proud). Little Man was absolutely aglow from the idea that he was a viking and he had a chance to hold a sword and a shield. He also wanted to hug all the dragons- so no worries that they will be too scary for your little ones.

Tips on Shopping for Your Teen’s First Car

If you were a teen looking for a new car, you’d likely want something loud, fast,
and flashy. Most teens are trying to impress their peers, and this is exactly the attitude
that gets them into trouble behind the wheel. As a parent it is your job to temper your
teen’s desire to act in a foolhardy manner and it starts with the car you allow him to
drive. Although you’re probably fine with putting him behind the wheel of your old-school
minivan, rife with safety features, the truth is that you probably need that car. As a
result, you might be looking at getting your teen driver his own sets of wheels. So here
are just a few tips to help you go about in in the right way.

  1. New vs. used. There are very few cases in which a teen driver should get a
brand new car. The major exceptions would be advanced safety features, alternative
fuel options, and hands-free technology, all of which are more readily available on newer
vehicles. Still, you could look at certified pre-owned options that are only a year or two
old. The idea here is that your teen is likely to ruin a first car, not only with accidents,
but from the pure wear and tear that a new driver will heap on his vehicle as he hones
his driving skills. This isn’t to say that you should cheap out on a car that barely runs,
but considering how much money you stand to lose, it doesn’t make sense to buy new in
    most cases.
  2. Consider associated costs. Another thing to think about is the additional costs
that come with buying a car. New cars will have higher registration fees and insurance
premiums (especially since you have to hold a full coverage policy while paying a loan),
while used cars may include more maintenance. This is one great reason to check out
certified pre-owned vehicles; their sticker prices are greatly reduced and most come with
a partial or even a full warranty.
  3. Check consumer [Read more…]

Mending Things With Dad

Some dads wish to reconnect with their kids; however, they may not carry the knowledge necessary for taking on such a task. The information below may help a father establish a relationship with his offspring:

Take a Trip

If a father wishes to make a connection with his child, it is a terrific idea to consider going on a trip. The trip does not have to imply spending a lot of money; it is essential to aim for something that is enjoyable for everybody. Some fathers may wish to take to the road. They may wish to go camping or otherwise explore the highway in an RV acquired through Dave Arbogast RVs or any local RV dealer. If a father does not wish to use a car, it is possible to purchase a plane ticket and fly to a suitable destination. It is up to the parent to decide on something appropriate and affordable.

Be There When Necessary

It is not enough to organize a road trip; if a father wishes to make amends, he should be there when his child needs him. If his child calls him on the phone, he should answer it; if he cannot, he should call the child back as soon as possible. It is a poor idea to procrastinate. The child may assume that the father does not care. If a child has a question or problem, the father should attempt to help. The father should also call the child as often as possible.

Listen and Pay Attention

Listening skills are vital for any relationship; a child should feel that he or she [Read more…]
