Training My New Dog with #CBias #iLoveMyK9

I think you all know we have a new dog in the house- Leela, AKA “Houdini”. She is 3 years old, and boy…does she need some work! LOL
Leela is a very smart dog- and I’m not sure that is a good thing! She gets into everything, and is very, very sneaky, haha. She keeps managing to bust out of our backyard (even after we rebuilt the fence- really- and padlocked the gate) and runs the town like she is training for the Olympics. NOT COOL.

Ways to Motivate Your Child to do Homework

Some kids tend to be accommodating while others are willful, but regardless of your child’s
temperament, there are bound to be times (even extended phases) when getting him to do his
homework is like pulling teeth. For parents, this can be a difficult situation to deal with. Whether or
not you agree with the amount and type of homework schools are handing out these days (have you
seen all the busy work?), the truth is that your child must keep up if he wants to succeed in school,
and you certainly want him to do his best, benefit from education, and learn to respect the discipline
and work ethic that he will need in his adult life. But how can you motivate him to do his homework
without turning your house into a battle zone? Here are a just a few ways to get your kid on track with
homework, and maybe even make it fun.

1. Offer rewards. Since you know your child pretty well, you probably have a good idea of what
motivates him already. For most kids, added rewards are a good place to start. You can
definitely try to explain the rewards that come with a job well done (good grades, for example),
but most kids want something a little more substantial. So consider offering outings to the park,
the museum, sporting events, concerts, or even theme parks at the end of the semester if your
child brings in good grades. Just be careful not to offer food or monetary rewards, as this can
color the way your child views these types of commodities.

2. Threaten punishment. While many kids will work for rewards, others are far more motivated
by the prospect of avoiding punishment. This is simply a matter of temperament – we can’t all
be go-getters. Punishing your child for bad grades may seem harsh, but his time spent [Read more…]

Crayola Model Magic Jewelry C0NTEST

Every time we go to the board walk or even the flea market for that matter, there is a mandatory look at the cheap jewelry table/shop. These stores specialize in unique and interesting bead based jewelry. Why not make these at home? With the right bead material, the right tools and a creative person these fun pieces can be made at home. Crayola makes just a set for this, the Crayola Model Magic Jewelry Boutique, well minus the creative person. Well, even the creativity is supplemented with a good instruction manual. 😛

This set includes a workstation and enough accessories and model magic to make hundreds of beads, charms, necklaces and bracelets. The workstation is super easy to use and Kamikaze loves it. She loved painting and clay to being with but now she can play with it and make something to wear. She [Read more…]

Walgreens/ Express Scripts Debacle

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

In recent news there has been some discussion about the Walgreens/Express Scripts dispute. The dispute was this: Express Scripts is a prescription drug middle man between medical insurance companies and the pharmacies which dispense medications. The issues was Express Scripts wanted complete control over the definition of the contract terms. These terms include the reimbursement rates, what is or is not a brand or generic drug and other factors. Walgreens refused and because of this Express Scripts is no longer working with Walgreens or Duane Reede. This is a huge problem for those who use Walgreens for prescription drugs because this means those individuals have to find a different pharmacy which could be further away or even just go to a different pharmacy that just doesn’t know them as well as their previous [Read more…]

Champions for Kids – Make A Simple Snack Pack #Cbias #AbbottCFK

We all know times are tough, and though we would like to pretend the recession is over (and getting better, or getting worse, or getting better, or getting worse? Bah, who knows!) It’s important to remember how many families are still struggling every day. There are lots of people who help others during Thanksgiving or Christmas- but what happens for the rest of the year?

Did you know that 17 Million Kids right here in the USA struggle with hunger? Here are a few more facts on hunger in the USA-

  • More than 17 million children are at risk for hunger
  • More than 700,000 children were reported abused or neglected in 2009. The numbers are suspected to be much higher—these reflect actual reports.
  • A child is abused or neglected every 41 seconds; 71 percent of them are victims of neglect. Infants are the most likely to suffer from maltreatment. Almost 40 percent of child victims receive no post-investigation services and many more receive far less than they need.
  • 1,200 children enter foster care each day remaining there on average more than two years. Thirty-one percent of the children in foster care are Black, double the percent of all children who are Black.
  • About two-thirds of public school 4th graders cannot read at grade level; 6 out of 10 cannot do math at grade level.
  • Well over 500,000 children remain in foster care each year.
  • More than one in eight preschool children live with a parent who abuses alcohol or other drugs or is dependent on them.

Great news, yeah? Not so much. SO- what can YOU do to help? Lots of things. You can go big, or go small- how big is your commitment to change? In the words of a famous musician- “If you want to make the world a better place, you better look at yourself, and make a change”. So get moving, shake and bake! What will you’re legacy be? One of love, of caring? I don’t just mean when it is right in front of you, calling your name and being obvious- I mean when it isn’t convenient. Lets make 2012 the Golden Age of Men- for real- and let it begin with me.

“First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out because I was not a
communist.
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the labor leaders, but I did not speak out because I was not a unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.
As one day became another and others disappeared, gypsies, mentally retarded,
homosexuals, Jehovah’s Witnesses, criminals, anti-socials and emigrants, I remained
silent because I was not one of them. Then it was they came for me,
but no one spoke [Read more…]

Branding 101 for Work-at-Home Moms

While most work-at-home moms are necessarily go-getters, you’ll be hard-pressed to find one that’s
looking to add even one more thing to her very full plate. And yet, many women who opt to wear the
dual hats of mother and breadwinner do so because they get fulfillment out of raising their children
even as they continue to pursue a rewarding career. Although many do this for practical reasons (a
supplemental income, for example, or because the cost of daycare is too high for them to effectively
work outside the home), these are the women that want to have it all. A big part of that means realizing
success in both arenas. But if you haven’t yet thought about branding your home-based business, you
could be missing out on a major opportunity to see your professional life really soar. So here are a few
basics that will help you understand the concept of branding, the inception, and what it could do for
your business.

First of all, you may be unclear about what branding is. There’s a lot more to it than designing a
logo and a snappy slogan. Creating a brand image is about considering the way your clients and the
consumer public see and recognize your business. You might not think that this is important for your
small slice of the market, but think again. Even on a small scale you probably face stiff competition
for jobs. This is your livelihood! You need to do everything you can to ensure that consumers choose
you over the next guy (or gal)! And this is where branding can make a difference. Even if you’re just
offering freelance writing services or local tutoring, you rely on [Read more…]
