Temporary Closure of New-York Historical Society

In response to heightened concerns relating to the spread of novel coronavirus COVID-19, the New-York Historical Society will close temporarily as of Friday, March 13 at 6 PM until the end of March. All onsite programs will be cancelled through the end of April. These decisions were made to support New York City’s efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 and to prioritize the health of our staff and visitors. Although no case of COVID-19 has been connected to the Museum, we are taking these preventive measures out of an abundance of caution to help ensure everyone’s safety. Visitors who have purchased tickets to a program will be contacted shortly to arrange either a refund or a ticket-to-donation to New-York Historical. In the meantime, New-York Historical is encouraging the public to stay connected online and explore our wealth of digital content at nyhistory.org. The Montclair Art Museum is temporarily closed in the interest of staff and community health

The Montclair Art Museum is committed to the health and safety of our visitors, employees, volunteers, and students. Beginning today, March 13, at 12 p.m., it will be temporarily closing the Museum and all programs, including Yard School classes and outreach programs, through March 31. In the interest of staff and community health, they feel it is best not to remain open.

The Museum will stay apprised of the evolving recommendations of the CDC and Montclair Township for avoidance and containment of COVID-19 and share updates as they become available.

Fish, meat, poultry, and eggs can provide us with protein to help build up muscle. Fruits and vegetables, on the other hand, help give the body with essential vitamins. Vitamin C or citric acid, vitamin B6, and Vitamin E are potent minerals that help the body fight off infections.

 

Eating all the time may sound great, but too much of it can also harm the body. Take note, eating right also means that you eat everything in moderation. Too much meat may build up more protein in your body than your kidneys can handle. It’s also best that you avoid fast food, junk food, and high sugar food that can lead to diabetes and other problems.

Water

Forget the diet soda and high sugar energy drinks you see on the shelf. If you want to become healthy and fit, nothing beats the purest and cleanest drinking water. Again, we’ll say it loud and clear: There is no substitute for water. Aside from food, water is what keeps the human being alive. Here’s a fact: Human beings can live without food for almost three weeks. Without water, though, a human can’t make it past three days. 

 

Water is vital for a lot of functions in the human body, such as regulating temperature, waste disposal, converting food into usable energy, and it also helps in absorbing the nutrients we get from that food. Most people should drink water according to their weight.

 

The recommended amount to drink is around 2-3 liters. Do take note that some food such as fruits and vegetables also provide adequate amounts of water that our body needs. As with food and overeating, drinking excessive amounts of water can also be harmful. Too much water can lead to hyponatremia wherein the body gets rid of essential minerals that the body needs to function.

Living an Active Lifestyle

THE BILLY JOEL CONCERTS SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 19 AND APRIL 10 AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN HAVE BEEN POSTPONED

Please be advised that the upcoming Billy Joel concerts scheduled to take place at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, March 19, 2020 and Friday, April 10, 2020 have been postponed. Tickets for the March 19th show will be valid for the performance on Saturday, September 26, 2020.  Tickets for the April 10th show will be valid for the performance on Sunday, October 11, 2020.

Check on your packing

You can pack clothes on the upper part of your backpack such that if anyone opens it, they will not find any valuable item on the surface. 

Carry a few things

If you are only travelling for a few days, you should try as much as possible to carry only the necessities. Bringing along less valuable items can also reduce the risks of getting robbed. For instance, you could bring along an old phone on your trip rather than your expensive iPad. You don’t have to carry your precious jewelry with you, especially when travelling to a new place. This habit only makes you an easy target to rob.  

Pack any valuable item on a separate bag

Apart from the main backpack, you should always have a small bag where you store any expensive item you cannot leave behind. The small bag should also be with you at all times, even if the main backpack is not. If you have to sleep on the train, ensure that you connect yourself with the small bag physically to prevent theft. For instance, you can intertwine your hands through the bag’s straps or hold the zip area while sleeping. Any movement of the bag as you sleep should wake you up. 

Make use of a money belt

Do you often bring along a bank card to help you with some of the travel expenses? Though this can be quite convenient, you should be careful with how you store it. Consider getting a money belt that can help you secure your cards, money, or even passports quickly. This is a belt that often comes with a secret compartment for easy storing of such items during travelling. 

It can keep your valuables out of sight and reduce the risk of getting robbed. The problem with this is that the money in such a belt cannot always be readily available. When you are public, you would feel quite uncomfortable digging around the crotch area for your cash. To avoid such awkward moments, store only emergency money and cards that you rarely use in the money belt.

If you don’t want a money belt that you have to wear below the waistline, you can choose one that is designed to be worn across the chest. You can always bring this along with you when you don’t feel comfortable leaving some of your valuable items in a hotel room.

Wear a jacket that features some zippered pockets

Not every traveler likes carrying around bags with them throughout. If you can relate, you can still boost the security of your items by wearing a jacket that has a lot of zippered pockets. This can help you keep things such as your phone or cash on you during transit. Some of the jackets that are marketed for travelers even have passport pockets that boost security and make you more organized.
