Get Outdoors And Play This Summer

It’s beautiful outside these days, and we are spending as much time outdoors as humanly possible. If you are looking to get outside and play, here are some fun options.

A fun twist on the tire tree swing, the Super Spinner® is a “UFO shaped” (according to my 10 year old) disk swing that lets one or more kids (and even a parent) take a ride. Intex makes a really fantastic assortment of floats your family is sure to love- my kids love the Intex Inflatable Mega Unicorn this year- they are, in fact, mildly obsessed. They have brought it to friends’ houses, and all the kids have had a fun time floating about the pool on the very colorful, very magical, large floating unicorn. You’d think this is mostly girls, right? Wrong. The boys love it as well, and so do mom and dad. My partner and I like to have our turn as well- although in all honesty, that rarely happens.Intex’s mega-sized, oversized pool floats are a lot of fun, more durable then many, and worth the price at $29.99.  Mega Unicorn and also the new Peacock design are newly available this year. Want to run away? Do it in the Brooks PureFlow 7. These sneakers didn’t need any “wearing in” or breaking in, they were good to go right out of the gate, which you know is rare. They are comfortable, great for running or long walks (even trails) and molded right to my feet. Super comfortable with lots of cushioning. Not only that, but the shoes are lightwight, agile, and moved with me. I love the way these feel on my feet. Brooks refers to the fit as “sock like, the stretch-woven upper and soft internal bootie allow your feet to feel comfortable and unrestricted”. Cover up from all that sun while you run! Or run about. Or laze. Whatever. You will need to keep your skin safe from the sun’s harmful rays while you are outside, and Seirus Innovation has Summer Protection Covered no matter what your personal tastes and style. Spring into Fitness with this Gear

Now that the weather is starting to warm up, we are excited to be headed back outside more often. Here are some of our favorites for ready-for-Spring fitness wear.

Ready to hit the trails? Us too! This has been a long winter (thanks, Phil) and we are more then enthusiastic about warmer weather and more outside time. If you are a runner, walker, or hiker, you will love these new sneakers from Brooks Running. The Launch 5 is a lightweight shoe with a mesh outer layer that keeps things airy. It has a “BioMoGo DNA midsole cushioning and rebounding rubber create a springy feel underfoot”. (What does that mean? It’s basically providing adaptive cushioning throughout the midsole as well instead of just the usual support only in the heel and forefoot. The more you know.) It’s a truly comfortable shoe for everyday wear as well as for running. Another option is the Adrenaline GTS 18, which is extremely supportive and well cushioned. These shoes are known and trusted for their amazing fit, and we completely agree.  One of their features that helps with this is an “asymmetrical 3D Fit Print and TPU saddle pulls from the heel and wraps around your midfoot for a secure fit”.  It also has the BioMoGo DNA midsole cushioning that we had mentioned above, as well as an integrated Segmented Crash Pad that cushions your feet as they land.  If you are all about support and soft landings, this is the shoe for you. For ladies’ support without the underwire, check out the Fiona Bra. This bra is easy to get on and off, comes in a multitude of colors, and is easy to wear for a long day. It has molded cups, velcro adjustable straps (which actually stay in place, surprisingly) and a padded back hook-and-loop closure. The sides come up high enough so there is no leakage, and it will hold you in place as you move about. The compression is excellent.  The Insect Shield Albany Pant by Craghoppers are great for year round travel and outdoor activities, and now that the weather is more agreeable to more time outdoors, we are making the most of them.  These  chino-looking pants are easy to wear to any occasion, they they are a true trail pant. Ready for the Great Outdoors

Walking In A Winter Wonderland

The weather has been all over the place this winter, and that means so has your wardrobe been. Shoes are the hardest part to figure out- no one likes wet, cold, uncomfortable feet- that makes for a long day. We are loving this footwear, and we thing you will, too.

Perfect for this time of year, but great year round (because when is mud not a thing, after all) the Detour BUGrip GTX are the perfect hiking or running sneaker- no slipping, super supportive, and no laces.  Instead of laces, these tighten up with a Boa® Closure System, which “provides custom comfort with smooth, even closure and no pressure points”. It’s actually pretty cool- you turn the little knob like circle on the tongue of the shoe, and it clicks until you reach the setting you like. Pull it up to release. Very neat. 5 Types of Wrinkle Free Fabrics

Fabrics that do not need ironing can be a lifesaver for anyone. Whether you are a mom who wants to skip the ironing or a savvy traveler who wants unwrinkled clothes wherever you go, wrinkle free fabric will be an essential thing for you.

  • Polyester. A very popular type of fabric, polyester is extremely strong and very durable. It can resistant to stretching, shrinking, abrasion, mildew, wrinkles, and most chemicals. Polyester fibers and fabrics have a wide range of uses such as in car tire reinforcements, conveyor belts, seat belts, upholstery padding, pillows, and comforters. It is also used for clothing, usually for activewear and performance-wear. It is also used as faux leather and imitation silk. It is a synthetic material and some people avoid wearing polyester because some of its components are said to may cause cancer.
  • Lycra. Another synthetic fiber, Lycra is very light, exceptionally elastic, and sheer, making it a great for clothing such as costume wear, dancewear, activewear, and swimwear. It is also the material used for dance belts, orthopaedic braces, socks, tights, wetsuits, triathlon suits, compression garments, bras, surgical hose, and microbead pillows.
  • Cotton. This is the most popular type of fabric used for clothing and although it is not exactly known for being wrinkle free, there are two ways to make cotton fabric that is wrinkle free. The first one is by treating the cotton with substances or chemicals that lock the bonds in the cotton material in place. However, this process makes the fabric brittle. Aside from this, the substance used produces amounts of formaldehyde, making it a not so health-friendly option. The other way of making wrinkle free cotton fabrics is to blend cotton with another material. The usual cotton blends used for this poly-cotton blends and nylon-cotton blends. Some of the best wrinkle free sheets are made of cotton blended with either polyester or sometimes, Lycra.
  • Microfiber. This synthetic fiber contains a blend of different materials which includes polyester. In fact, some would say that microfiber IS polyester, but when it comes to fabric, they have a big difference. Microfiber, as the name suggests, have fibers that are much, much smaller than that of polyester. This helps it become soft, tough, and good at absorbing. Some uses of microfiber are for clothing such as athletic wear, undergarments, skirts, jackets, and swimwear. It is also used for bathrobes, towels, wallets, coin purses, bags, and shoes. They are also used for bedsheets, tablecloths, and other household textile.
