I don’t like to spend a lot of time going from store to store to get what I need.  As a busy working wife and mother, I have a lot of hats I wear on a daily basis, and any way I can trim time I spend doing those “must do” activities is a bonus for me. That’s one of the many reasons I love shopping at Kohl’s- whether you shop in stores or online, it’s a one stop shopping experience that you don’t need to spend tons of time and energy on.  Bonus?  The prices are great- you can catch amazing deals, get rewarded just for shopping and buying what you need to (with Kohl’s Cash, good for anything in the store) AND they constantly mail out money saving coupons in the weekly mailers, snail mail, and the best ones come via email when you sign up to receive promotions.  Really, you should- there is not a reason in the world not to.  They only send you deals and updates, Kohl’s is not one of those places that bombard you with useless emails 300 times a week.

While I usually enjoy shopping for me, shopping for my husband and son can be a less then fun experience, and one I prefer to either do alone or online.  My son is OK if he’s with me, but if daddy is also with us, he turns into a whine machine.  I don’t know why that is, but the quickness and ease of shopping at Kohl’s and getting what I need to for everyone in the family with no fuss is VERY appreciated by this mommy, let me tell you.  Maybe it’s a guy thing- but they just don’t make shopping fun, and it’s great to go in with a list, sizes, and be done with it.  Shopping online at 2 am is another great standby.  No one annoys me then, and since they are both dudes?  They don’t care what I buy them as long as it fits, and for the kiddo maybe has an Angry Bird or two involved, haha.

Kohl’s for Mother’s Day

Looking for the perfect place to shop for Mom?  Or maybe your wife- since some of the kids are too small to shop on their own, dad’s or partners will have to help out a little. One of my favorite stores to shop at has always been Kohl’s- while I will shop anywhere that strikes my fancy, there are only a handful of stores that I consider myself a loyal shopper of, and Kohl’s is one of them.  Check out my closet (and those of my husband and son as well) and my housewares if you’d like to verify, haha.  I love Kohl’s because they have everything for everyone in your family, as well as housewares, outdoor supplies and furniture, even travel gear.

They also have awesome sales, you can get Kohl’s cash (free money to spend in the store just for making purchases) to use, and shopping is easy both online and in stores as well. Also, as a bonus, my son often gets to choose a stuffed toy at the end of the register if he’s a good boy the whole trip.  Now, I always expect good behavior from the kiddo, but with the high quality and adorable toys and books that Kohl’s offers for just 5$ (and the net profits going to organizations that benefit children) I never mind spending it and letting him have one.

Tuck In. Turn Off. Tide Sweet Dreams

Tuck in, turn off and sweet dreams sound like three important factors when trying to fall asleep.  And while true Tuck In Turn Off is actually a new pledge by Downy, Tide and Bounce.  You see according to a poll by the National Sleep Foundation approximately 41% of Americans have problems sleeping at least a few nights a week.  The main reason being the inability to ‘turn off’.

Instead of sleeping or winding down before bed, the bed is just another place to get things done.  Some tweet, some text and some updated their Facebook status before bed.  Are any of these really necessary?  Probably not.  So pledge to have a more relaxed bed time ritual.  The key components of your ritual should be:

1) A half hour before bed shut off your phone, your computer, tablet, telegraph machine etc.

2) Give yourself 8 hours to sleep

3) Nothing with a keyboard or touch screen while in bed. Period. No quick games, no quick texts, nothing but a sweet pleasant sleep.

4)  Give yourself a calming soothing environment.  This is where the Tide, Downy and Bounce come in.  With their new Sweet Dreams Collections.  Each component of the collection has some special scent to help lull you to sleep.  The included products are:  Tide plus a touch of Downy Sweet Dreams, Downy Unstopables Dreams, Downy Infusions Sweet Dreams and Bounce Sweet Dreams. All of which have a touch of vanilla and a hing of lavender.  Lavender is a proven sleep promotion agent, helping get those precious Zzzzz ‘s without the side effects or chemicals.

Seventh Generation Toxin Freedom Fighters

Disclosure- I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Seventh Generation. I received a promotional item and product samples as a thank you for participating

Toxins are all around us in our environment but not only outside or near facotries.  There are also quite a few toxins in our homes.  Many of which we brought in from the market.  How is this possible? Well for example 80,000 synthetic chemicals introduced into the market since the Toxic Substances Control Act was passed in 1976, the EPA has required testing on less than 10%.

pic9Scientists have linked exposure to toxic chemicals to quite a few health risks, including: cancer, Alzheimer’s, learning disabilities, asthma, birth defects, and other reproductive problems.  All of which would occur a whole lot less if congress would update one law, The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).  TCA  was passed in 1976, and has never been updated since its inception. As of now there are thousands of potentially harmful chemicals used in the marketplace since the 1970’s without proper testing and without disclosure by the companies that produce them.  The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) was passed in 1976, and  has never been updated since its inception. As of now, thousands of potentially harmful chemicals continue to be used in the marketplace since the 1970’s without proper testing and without disclosure by the companies that produce them.  But what pray tell can you do about it?  Why not check out the Natural Resources Defense Council website.

House Cleaning

house-cleaning

Spring is upon us- or rather, should be upon us soon if these darn snow storms would stop already and mother nature would get the hint and take a break.  Anyway Spring is around the corner, and also around that corner is the first day you can crack open those windows and air out the house finally.  Get out the dust and the funk that has been building for months now.

As Spring comes, so does Spring cleaning and as such there are a 3 places people generally clean

1) The carpet – By either hiring a carpet cleaner or doing it yourself either way going green is in.  So if possible use Earth friendly carpet shampoo or hire a Green Choice Carpet Cleaning company.

2) The windows – inside and out all those wonderful windows used to let in a lot more light so be sure to hit both inside and out.  Inside is easy as long as you can reach them with your cleaner of choice and paper towels or fabric remnants.  Outside is a bit tricky, we tend to go with the garden hose attachment made specifically for outdoor window cleaning.  Just be sure all windows are closed tightly, trust me on this one.

Indow Windows

Many believe windows are only meant to be seen through, but those of us with older houses know that these windows are also places for wind to blow through.  (Where our precious and expensive heat leaks out in a slow steady stream.)  That little breeze you feel by those windows might as well be dollars blowing out the window.  Inefficient windows are one of the top complaints of older homes, right after out houses and corpses in the crawl space.  Yeah, we’ve all seen that movie.  What? Indow Window panels are a great way to combat this issue (the energy efficiency- nothing they can do about the Indian burial mound in the backyard, sorry- call the ghostbusters)  while also helping improve sleeping patterns in children and help those who suffer from migraines with the new Blackout Panels.

Fall into Miracle-Gro

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Scotts Miracle-Gro for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

It’s my favorite time of year- fall! Well, I love fall and spring the same amount, actually. The changing of the seasons, and the fact that we get to leave extreme weather behind us is always a good thing in my mind. I love the colors that come about in the fall- we are in the Northeast, and you know what that means- the leaves change colors in some of the most amazing hues imaginable. It’s easy toFind beauty in the Fall.

Now, while I love my roses, and it’s true that they and most of my other spring and summer garden can’t make it in this weather, not all is lost 🙂 Fall gardening and gardens are some of the prettiest, with their deep colors and rich tones. We love mums here- always have- and we just bought a whole mess of them. My son has quite the green thumb, not something he got from [Read more…]
