Is Your Health Safe When You Travel?

Traveling the world can be a wonderful experience. You get to take in new sights, see a ton of history, embed yourself in other cultures, and create lifelong memories. However, while the experience may be fun, traveling to other countries also puts you at risk.

panasonic 07 17 14 402

Not only do you run the risk of getting lost or being taken advantage of in other countries due to your lack of direction and/or inability to speak the language, but you are also exposed to illness and disease that you may not be exposed to back home in the US.

Getting sick in another country is not always ideal. Not only do the doctors likely not have access to your medical records, which could put you at risk if you have an underlying medical condition or allergy to medication they aren’t aware of, but you may not get the best possible treatment either. In order to ensure your safety while traveling to another country, use the following tips.

Get vaccinated.

Different countries have different illnesses and diseases, and in order to travel to certain countries, you may be required to get certain vaccinations. Before you go, check and see what vaccinations you need to travel out of the country, and then set up an appointment with your doctor to get vaccinated. Keep in mind that some vaccinations may require multiple doses, so this isn’t something you can put off until the last minute. Plus, you’ll also need proof that you were vaccinated in order to board the plane, so be sure you keep all records and documentation on hand. Getting these shots done will help eliminate your risk of catching a disease while you’re traveling, which will help to keep you safe.

Research doctors/hospitals.

Arlo – Keep An Eye on Your Home

Disclosure- I received the below in order to facilitate this review.  All opinions are my own and honest.

Have you ever been away from home and got the horrible feeling something bad is happening at home?  Normally this nagging feeling can be written off as paranoia or just nerves but what if?

Well how do you go about making your home safe and sound without paying  monthly fees? The answer comes from one of the biggest names in computer networking- Netgear.  They have created Arlo.  Arlo is a network device which interfaces with your smart phone or any device with internet access.  Arlo is made up of from one to 4 HD wireless video indoor/outdoor cameras and the internet ready device.  After plugging in and setting up Arlo, the fun part is finding the best spot for your cameras.  We picked some great ones and the easiest part is all you have to do is place them around.  There are no wires to figure out how to plug in or communication cable that feed back to the base unit.  All you need to do is power them on and plug in the base.

The part that honestly took the longest was downloading and setting up the app for our smart phones, which was still incredibly quick.  The entire setup took about a total of an hour for both phones and the unit itself.  This home monitoring system gives you peace of mind. The way Arlo works is that once you leave the house or go to sleep, you set it to wake up upon motion,  When the cameras pick up motion, an notification gets sent to your phone where you can easily pick up the video feed and see whats going on.

5 Tips for Safe Traveling for Your Teens This Summer Vacation

This is a post by author David Hall.  All opinions expressed are his own, and not my own.

Summer vacations are right around the corner and just a couple of weeks more to go and then your children would get off from the schools. It’s that time of the year we parents dread! The never-ending sibling fights, sleeping late and getting up well after the noon, binge eating and that constant complaint of getting bored – gear up, parents because you’re about to get your hands pretty full!

My advice: either enroll them into some classes- baking, crafts, swimming, summer camp, or get ready to face the music! Or better still; let them go and explore the world! If you’re thinking I’m being a little too adventurous and not foreseeing the risks involved, be assured that I’m a parent myself and have two teens up my sleeve, too.

I would rather encourage all other parents to let their children explore a new place this summer holiday. They could go anywhere -the place doesn’t matter. The important thing is to let them take care of themselves and survive in totally strange place! This will teach them things that you can’t in a lifetime!

Tip1: Do the math and geography

So, let’s assume that you’ve allowed your teens to go out on their field trip, educational tour or whatever and everything’s decided. Now, sit with your teens and do the math: calculate the costs, estimate the expenses and decide on a bare minimum daily allowance. Then do the geography. Google all the places they’d want to visit, a comfy hotel, nearby hospital, shopping malls, train circuit and adjoining suburbs. Your teens and you will get a good idea what they’re going to do there and it will improve their geography (it’s much better than knowing that K-2 is the 2nd highest mountain in the world!)

Tip2: Ensure their safety

Now that’s tricky and the most crucial part! You can’t just let them go without making it absolutely sure that you can keep in constant touch and monitor them! I am that kind of a person who’d ask Siri to book me cinema tickets. I enjoy tech and I rely heavily on it, too. Therefore, I’ve bought myself this parental monitoring app, FamilyTime, 6 weeks ago. I am getting used to its feature and seeing how it works. I’ve installed it on my children’s iPhones and I must admit it’s pretty fascinating. Here’s a screenshot of the dashboard:

Walmart Huggies Wipes Bet You Didn’t Know

Thank you to Huggies for sponsoring today’s post and inspiring me to try Huggies Wipes at Walmart.  All opinions are my own.

20150502_134155

Because Kids Outgrow Diapers, Not Messes, wipes are a necessity with children.  Notice the word children- not only babies but children of all ages use wipes.  With babies, Huggies wipes are great because they are gentle and clean a baby’s skin with triple clean layers technology.  But that strong triple clean technology is also useful when your little one is a bit bigger.  Case in point- clean up time.  It is always a good idea to have some Huggies wipes within reach during paint or clay time.  To keep those little plops and drops from turning into mop and bucket messes.  The wipes themselves are great because they are moist and sensitive, but easy to grab and wipe stuff down with.  This is not an “end all” way to clean everything but it is a good first step to keep little messes little.  They are also great for on the go- I can’t tell you how many times I have used them in the car, such a lifesaver.

Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh for those Crazy Days

Disclosure- I am being compensated by Kraft for this post for sharing my thoughts.  All opinions are my own.

You know those days when everything seems to be a chore?  The kids are being pests, your stove is on the fritz, the internet is going haywire, and your spouse is running late?  We all have them.  OscarMayer (jokingly) created funny tarot cards to give moms a “peek” into their future to help them prepare for the chaos ahead as part of their new Deli Fresh Sanewich campaign. You can think of it a little like a HORRORscope. Get it?  Kidding.  Life with kids is never a horror, is it?  (Cue corney music.)

What’s up with “Sanewich”?  Oscar Mayer developed this campaign because they noticed so many things in the world are unnecessarily complicated. In these situations, it’s good to know that Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh can keep it simple and provide deli quality lunch meats anytime.  Like, you know, those dinners when you have exactly 11 seconds to get it together?  Perfect for those.
