Peter Som For Kohl’s And WIN $100

It is finally spring! The chance to bust out my spring and summer wardrobe is here. I have been admiring the 2014 spring line of several designers, plotting my new additions and I have fallen in love with a few items in Kohl’s Spring Collection from Peter Som for Design Nation. I love that each piece was designed with the confident and elegant woman in mind.

Peter Som’s sketches are no nonsense and can be made into a stunning yet simple dress. I love that he mixes classic lines and feminine colors for a fresh look that reminds me of a sunny carefree day.

I have had my eye on this fit and flare dress. It is elegant, classy and modest. I am a sucker for stripes… if you didn’t catch that already, and I love that I could wear sandals or heels with this dress depending upon the occasion.  Yes, I totally bought it at the presale.  If you check out my last post, you can see some photos of me in my new, fun, colorful dress.  (It’s now available, buy it online or in stores.)

Hanging Out With Peter Som

WP_20140402_18_14_01_ProAs you know, Kohl’s is now working with Peter Som to bring the fashion of the islands to you.  With all of Peter’s pieces under $88, it is more affordable then some other brands.  As a frequent traveler, I was looking forward to the event and checking out the new styles.  I love this time of year- you know, when winter bites the big one?  Spring and summer fashions are a breath of fresh air to most of us, especially after this especially brutal winter.

WP_20140402_18_54_15_ProIt was fun talking with Peter Som and stylist Mary Alice Stephenson (a friend of Peter’s, who supported him by wearing his clothes from head to toe).  He explained to us his inspiration, and that he wanted to make fashion that made all women look beautiful.  Mary Alice took the time to swap out pieces of outfits that ladies in the room created to show how they can better show off certain aspects of the clothing or the body, or even just brighten up the outfit.  They both told everyone in the room not to be so “matchy-matchy” with colors and prints- they don’t need to be exact matches, and to try to have more fun with clothing.

2 Dresses, 6 Looks

Spring is here, and with it comes the promise of warm weather and getting to (finally) put the horrible winter coats and clunky, awful snow boots away.  Like much of the country (and Canada), we have had a terrible winter, exceptionally cold and snowy, and I am ready for pretty colors, light fabrics, and open toed sandals.

Recently, I headed over to Kohl’s for some Spring shopping.  I picked out two dresses that I could use for a few different occasions.  Kohl’s is a great place to find dresses for women.

scooby and kohls 037Everything here is from Apt 9.   I thought this would be a nice, easy to wear outfit for spring, good for going out to dinner, a show, or a night on the town.  The coin necklace in silver and gold paired with the larger coin bracelet was fun, and I love the gold metallic flat.

Open Hearts Jewelry by Jane Seymour

It can be hard to find the perfect piece of jewelry, one that will go with just about any outfit and matches with many things easily.  Statement pieces are one thing- they are big and bold, and go with just a few outfits, but some people like to have a special something they can wear every day.

One necklace that can fit the bill is from the Open Hearts collection by Jane Seymour, from Kay Jewelers.  I know Jane Seymour best from the late 90’s show “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” that I loved.  I know, but it was the 90’s.  And it was a good show, shut your faces.   I’m not the only one, there were 2 movies made after the show was off the air- take that, Sex and the City!  Yeah, that’s right.  OK, moving on.  Back to the subject at hand.

Any meow.  The collection includes necklaces, rings, bracelets, charms, pendants, earrings, and more. It was created by Jane Seymour herself, and discovered by Kay accidentally.  Want to know more?  Mmmmk, never say I didn’t tell you anything good.

Going on a shopping trip for The Dress is like treasure hunting – it’s fun, but it can also bring you a lot of stress if you go overboard. It’s important to know what style works best for you that still goes well with the theme you have in mind. Bridal store specialists and sales consultants will know the style that would fit your body type and suits your preferences, and designers like Isabelle Armstrong have exquisite collections you can choose your dress from.

If you’re all set to sail to find that perfect wedding dress, here are seven tips to get you going!

Do your research.Browse through magazines and websites so you can have an idea of what you’re drawn to, especially the feel, shape, and overall style. Save the photos on your phone or print them out so you can show these to the bridal salon on your appointment. Shop around, but visit no more than three stores in a day or you’ll have a difficult time remembering—and eventually deciding on—which dress you’ve tried on.

Bring a friend. One or two friends, or your mom and your maid of honor, are the best companions on a wedding dress shopping trip. Your trusty companions must be able to look at dresses objectively and have your best interests at heart. A couple of honest, level-headed people is better than a whole entourage making you try on a whole slew of dresses you don’t really like.

LUV Shoes? Check Out This Giveaway

On the set of the TV show “The Middle” in my LUV shoes- and catching a flight in just a few hours, which made the on and off easy. Not a perfect match to the shirt, but what can you do in a pinch? Haha.

Find a Bargian at TMart (And Giveaway!)

pic7If you are like me, you are always on the lookout for a cute bag at a good bargain.  When I shop, I don’t like to pay an arm and a leg for something I can find for less elsewhere.  Tmart.com has some great sales and prices on items that we use everyday.  One thing I was recently looking for was a new purse- mine was going to pieces, and needed a replacement.  Tmart Shoulder Bags & Handbags come in many varieties and prices to fit all sorts of budgets.  I ended up getting the “Newest Sweet Time Fine Lines Tottenham Women Leather Shoulder Messenger Bag Pink” which is a really, really long name for a bag- for sure the longest I have ever seen, LOL.  It’s cute though, and I love the color.

Shoes You Were Born To Love

3 disneyI love shoes- I think that might not be a secret.  My husband is certainly aware.  For me, the shoes make or break the outfit, and I adore my latest pair from Born Shoes.  They are not only super cute, but so comfortable (I swear) you can wear them all day long without getting sore feet or a blister.  I have worn them 4 times since getting them a few weeks ago (it’s still winter weather here, but I have been on a few trips to warm-weather locations!)  and and not one time did my feet hurt afterward, and every time I wore them I got compliments.
