The Family Activity Packet and Educators Guild can both be easily downloaded from the official MONKEY KINGDOM website.

Life is an adventure for Maya, the clever and resourceful blonde-bobbed monkey in “Monkey Kingdom,” Disneynature’s new feature film set among ancient ruins in the storied jungles of South Asia. Maya’s world is forever changed when she welcomes her son, Kip, into her complicated extended family. Like all families, Maya’s has more than its share of colorful personalities—and she’s determined to give her son a leg up in the world. When their longtime home at Castle Rock is taken over by powerful neighboring monkeys, Maya’s whole family retreats, and she uses her street smarts and ingenuity to uncover untapped resources amidst strange new creatures and unsettling surroundings. Ultimately, they will all have to work together to reclaim Castle Rock, where Maya can hopefully realize her dreams for her son’s future.

Family Easter Outfits at Kohl’s

Spring is the perfect time to refresh your wardrobe, and with Easter looming, it’s a great reason to drag even the most resistant men in your life out for at least a small upgrade, true?  We recently headed to Kohl’s to see what we could find for both of the men in my life to wear for the holiday this year.  The smaller one is usually pretty compliant, it’s the bigger one that can be somewhat of a fighter, lol. They both agreed, however, on getting new pants and nice shirts.  We got them things they could wear not only on Easter, but for future events.

20150314_135829Now that I look at it, it seems they are almost matching, though not intentionally- one blue on top and beige on the bottom, the other reversed, ha. My son decided he wanted to go in shorts (can you tell we’ve had it with winter and he’s looking forward to warm weather?) and my husband decided to get new jeans, which he could use. They both picked out their outfits without the other one seeing- my son was with me, and the husband was in the men’s department all by himself- I was amused when I saw how similar their selections were when we met in the boy’s department 😉

Peace, Bugs and Understanding – Cute New Kids Book

My son loves to be read to, and will hopefully be a big reader like his mom.  He likes pretty much anything, from the classics, to comic books, to “cute” books, and more. I’m glad he likes diversity in reading, hopefully it means he’s open minded. One of the latest books we have read is “Peace, Bugs and Understanding,” the newest children’s book by Gail Silver in her illustrated series beginning with Anh’s Anger.

This books is about finding peace instead of anger, and encourages children to look inward and be calm when they feel anger. It deals with meditation on a child’s level- which I think is pretty cool, and timely for us since my son is about to start kids classes next month.  We both do yoga already, and I meditate, and feel this would be good for him as well.  Like his mother, he has some tendencies that this could help.  (Don’t we all, right?)  Maybe starting younger would be helpful.

This is a cute book, easy to follow, with relatable characters and problems.  We are going to find the first two books of the series as well so that we can read them all.

More About the Book

The newest (and final) installment in the series is “Peace, Bugs, and Understanding: An Adventure in Sibling Harmony.” Emotionally charged siblings experience harmony in lieu of rivalry when they discover Metta, a practice that has helped people transform anger into loving kindness for thousands of years. In addition to being an author, Gail is the founder of Yoga Child, a Philadelphia business that teaches children about yoga and inner peace.

PetSmart Loves Happy Pets #CrateHappyPets @PetSmart

Disclosure- This post is sponsored by PetSmart, and the BlogPaws Professional Pet Blogger Network. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about Containment Products and Education for your pet, but Have Sippy Will Travel only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. When you are getting a new furry buddy for the house, there are many things to think about. Everyone thinks of food, toys, treats, a leash, etc. Something important to remember is a crate or carry container for your new fur buddy. Crates are a great investment because they can keep your dog safe, keep them from getting too anxious when you are away, and keep your destructive little buddy from getting at those new speakers.  Or spite pooping on the bed.  You know.  Fun stuff.

Sometimes mistakes happen, and they are unavoidable. Maybe you dropped a glass, which of course flew everywhere- so how do you keep your dog out of the room while cleaning up and trying not to cut yourself at the same time? That would be another good reason for a crate. Contain your little buddy and clean away.   You can also use a carrier for trips to the vet, the groomer, and road trips.  (For bigger dogs, you will need a seat belt vest or the like, unless you have room for a very large crate.)

Family Fun in Chattanooga

With Spring Break looming, and spring weather finally reaching the frozen tundra that is the Northern United States, many people are looking forward to a change of pace and scenery.  While it has been warmer recently, it’s not quite “spring” north of most of the Mason-Dixon. This year, why not head to the “Scenic City” of Chattanooga?  This fun and funky metropolis located in Southeastern Tennessee is known as such for it’s bevvy of outdoor activities and natural beauty.

It’s easy to get to, and to get around in. Long considered “The Gateway to the South”, this little city is also a short distance to Georgia (you may find yourself driving into and out of GA repeatedly as you travel Chattanooga), Alabama, and North Carolina boarders.  Slightly further away are Kentucky, South Carolina, and Virginia. All of these are a few hours drive or less.

Each year, Chattanooga has it’s Spring Break Safari for families to enjoy fun and adventurous learning experiences.  Head to any participating venue to receive a “passport” booklet full of the year’s Spring Break Safari activities.  Kids can participate in scavenger hunt questions and receive a prize at each location for completing their quest. There are also free interactive apps at some of the locations, such as the Tennessee Aquarium.  Visit http://www.chattanoogafun.com/spring for a full list of participating locations.

P1020809If you’d like to see an amazing view while experiencing some beautiful surroundings, head to Rock City Gardens.  This 13 acre outdoor garden first opened in 1932, when Frieda and Garnet Carter developed the property into one large “rock garden”.  The motto of Rock City is “Created by God and enhanced by man”. The site is “natural” in that it is set in nature and is quite scenic, with amazing geological formations, waterfalls, and lovely gardens, but has been cultivated to be what it is today.  You and your family can walk the paths around the ancient rock formations, view the botanical delights of the gardens with more then 400 species of plants, visit the gnomes and fairies that inhabit Rock city, read the legend of the tragic Native American “Lover’s Leap”, gaze at a waterfall you won’t even  know is there until you turn the right corner, and stare into the aforementioned 7 states at once from panoramic mountaintop scenery.

P1020806

You will see signs on barns, birdhouses, and more as you get closer to the gardens-  the souvenir “See Rock City” birdhouses are some of the most popular sellers in the destination’s shop.

If you haven’t had your fill of rocky scenery, head to Ruby Falls. While you may have been on cave tours before, this one is fairly unique in that it holds an underground waterfall.  Your tour begins with an elevator ride into the caverns of Lookout Mountian that Leo Lambert discovered in 1928.  As you are guided through the cave, you are given not only the story of the cave and of those who discovered it, but shown various formations as you head toward the waterfall. Sadly, and strangely, pieces of the cave were broken off  as  “souvenirs” for some time, and you are able to see that as well.  One interesting formation is hollow, and when you thump on it (yes, you are told where it is, and are allowed to do so) it sounds like a drum.  This is extremely unusual, and very unique.  Of course, you also see the “cave chips” and “bacon” and get “cave kisses” as you walk along.
