I am a huge fan of the Cooperative Games that Peaceable Kingdom has to offer. They are a great concept, as well as the fact that they teach your children many great skills.

About the products I received:

Hoot Owl Hoot! Cooperative Board Game:

In this awesome game, you have to move all the owls from start to the nest before the sun rises. This game can be played with 2-4 players. Each of the players take turns, but they are all working together. At the start of the game, you place the sun token in the first space on the sun track and place 3 owls on the start spaces. Give 3 cards to each of the players. All of the players keep their cards face up in front of them so that they can work together to strategize how to move. This game can become more challenging by adding up to 6 tokens in the game. Because Hoot Owl Hoot! is a cooperative game players play any of the owls – no one player has a single owl , she is trying to get back to the nest.

Toasty Totes – Warm and Dry, To Go!

Toasty Totes are an interesting product.  For one, it is multipurpose and not in the way you can use play dough to stop a leak in a pipe.  More along the lines of, “this is actually useful.”   The Toasty Tote is an item which will slowly become a necessity for the back of your car,  much like the re-usable shopping bags are now.  These interesting portable totes are not only a portable blanket, as well as a cushion, but also a blanket, and a handy carrying device.  That’s a lot of uses.

Sure, it’s not big enough to carry a body- but only a steamer chest will do for this purpose.  And what are you up to, carrying bodies around?  What’s wrong with you?  Knock it off, already.  Moving on.

The tote can be easily wrapped around yourself for an extra layer of warmth when it gets too cold or the air is too nippy.  You can also try wrapping it around a folding chair for quick and easy transport.  There possibilities for the Toasty Tote are almost as endless as they are for Lego’s.  Yeah, I said it. With the Velcro straps and various arrangements of organization available, the only thing holding you back is your own ingenuity.  The more often you bring around Toasty Tote, the more often you will realize how useful it is.  My husband is adding it to his “bug out” bag, you should get one for yours as well.  What, no bug out bag?  That’s a problem.  You need a bug out bag.  And you should add to it a Toasty Tote.  Also, it’s useful for baseball games when they just drag ON and ON and never end and it’s freezing and the kids are all whiny because it’s cold….so, double useful.  Zombies, or terrible baseball games that won’t end.  I’ll bet you can come up with some ways as well, but those are the best two, I think.

Free Country Winter Coat

There is a chill to the air, frost on the ground and I know that one day soon I will be greeted by a swirl of snowflakes dancing through the air. With the approach of winter it is time to start considering a winter coat that will keep you warm and looking great. Free Country has an impressive selection of coats for the entire family at great prices that will keep Old Man Winter from chilling you to the bone.

The Women’s Plus Size Snowhaven Power Down Jacket by Free Country is no exception. This coat is machine washable, water and wind resistant, and features a hand gaiter to keep your digits warm and your hands free. I like to stay warm, but I don’t want to wear a jacket that is restricting and I don’t want to feel like the little brother in a Christmas Story when I put my coat on. The Women’s Plus Size Snowhaven Power Down Jacket is perfect for me. I love that it is filled with natural down feathers to keep me toasty without adding bulk.

Elf Magic- Fun Holiday Traditions

My son loves his Elf Magic Elf, Burke.  Burke was hard to get back to Santa last year, and my little dude was NOT a happy camper.  He made an early return this year, with my son finding him inside of his Trick or Treat pumpkin.

Burke, like us, likes to travel. When we sent our letter to Santa last year, we let him know how much we move around, and asked him to send an elf that would like to see the world as well.  We can’t have an elf that gets car-sick or won’t get on an airplane now, can we?  LOL.  Burke, luckily, is a hardy elf, and enjoys all the new places and spaces we tote him to.

With Burke in Philly

Last year he joined us for many trips and daily outings, even really exciting things like the supermarket.  I know.  Mind. Blown. Try to contain yourself.  You are a grown up, act like it.

My son was so taken with his Elf Magic elf that he even took him to our Christmas photo session last year.  Yes, that’s us, and Burke.  I’m not telling my then-5-year-old that the elf isn’t part of the family, that’s just mean.

Holiday Outfits Made Easy with Kohl’s

I have very little in the way of fashion sense.  For this reason,  I try to keep it simple, all the time.  This time of year, I take more photos then usual, which is quite a lot.  I like to do our holiday cards with less posed, cornball “look what a perfect and happy family we are” photos and more real ones (because we are far from perfect- and I readily admit to that!)  I also like to take one nice family photo every year, where we are all looking at the camera at the same time, hopefully with our eyes open.  For this photo, I like us to look decent- and we loved our new shirts ordered just for the occasion from Kohl’s Holiday Collection.

This year, it was easy to look decent in our photos.  I shopped at Kohl’s, where the prices are affordable and the clothing will last as well- even on my husband.  My son wanted us all to wear blue for the photo (which worked out- I loved this Apt 9 crepe shirt), and he wanted us to all sit with Santa.  Why not, right?  We dressed in our new holiday clothes and headed over to Macy’s on Herald Square to check out the holiday window displays and visit Santa Claus.

Turns out, it would be a little harder then you would think to take photos with Santa.  He took the day off, which was sort of uncool since the employee we spoke to gave us his hours for the day, LOL.  But, we had a great time looking at the windows, visiting Santaland, and then took a walk over to FAO Schwarz as well.  Why not?  It’s Christmas time in the city, after all  🙂

Bob Evans – Easy Holiday Meals

With the holiday season in full swing and some of them have even past (Thanksgiving, first night of Hanukkah, etc.)  the chaos is upon us.

How can one person expect to buy presents, clean the house, make stellar meals followed by a huge, mega good, meal AND make sure everyone is having a good time who is staying over the house?  The answer-  It isn’t possible, either you need some helpers or you need some help.  Bob Evans is a great way to get meal help.

Think of their farm fresh dishes as a neighbor throwing in a hand to help out.

bob evans

These dishes go from boneless turkey breast that melts in your mouth to stuffing and mashed potatoes that are, “I have to know how to make these'”  good.  There are lots of options in regard to dishes and they range from sides like mashed potatoes to home fries and buttered sweet corn.  Next are the main courses which include ham, turkey and country fried steak.  Of course there are also breads and desserts.  Desserts are pies of various types including cherry, pumpkin and pecan and even fresh baked chocolate chip cookies.

turkey

We had a pre- thanksgiving turkey meal and I can honestly say all the food was phenomenal.  The turkey was moist, the mashed potatoes were awesome, and the pie didn’t last long at all.  The gravy was smooth and the cranberry sauce tart and full of real cranberries.

The prices are also quite affordable and with pre ordering available and simple reheat instructions enclosed Bob Evens is definitely a useful neighbor to have.
