Armstrong Ceilings

How many home improvement projects have you done in the last year?  I mean in total?  And how many do you wish you could have done?  Maybe a new bathroom faucet, a leaky bathtub, or maybe just a pipe snaking for a pesky drain?

What if instead of fixing that problem after it occurred you could update before it happens?  In the last year there have been quite a few projects which have been completed in our home.  These include some masonry work and leveling of the patio in the back yard.   There is also the issue of the ceiling in the dining room which needs some updating.  It isn’t falling down, but a refresh would be nice.

Travel In Style

I believe that traveling is good for the soul. The chance to explore new places, to meet new people and to experience the view from another angle offers a person the chance to grow, to improve and to create memories. Travel gives a true appreciation of other cultures, and when you are away from home you learn to appreciate the place you hang your hat. I like to think that I leave a piece of myself in every city that I visit and that I take a little bit of my journey home with me.

I have been fortunate to travel often, to see the sights, to experience the thrill of the unknown and to develop an appreciation of exceptional accommodations. I enjoy seeing the personality of the decorator shine through in different hotel rooms, bed and breakfasts, and inns. Attention to detail with my comfort in mind places these amazing and stylish people that can make a hotel room seem better than home at the top of my list of things to applaud when I am on the road.

While I have spent many nights in a hotel, among the most memorable nights in my adventures I have had the privilege of staying in was a hotel that was in a building that was once a bank. The hotel was unique, cozy, and it will forever stand out in my memory of being the perfect blend of luxury accommodations with a hint of the rustic style of the Wild West.  The bathroom was amazing. The vanity was made a rich dark wood, the mirrors were strategically placed and the lighting was perfect. The jacuzzi was nothing short of heavenly.

The Girls Scouts are an American institution.  Since March 12, 1912 with 18 girls assembled by Juliette Gordon Low to today’s 3.2 million members (2.3 million girls, 890,000 adults) the Girls Scouts have always helped girls build courage, confidence, and character while making the world a better place.  One of the added benefits of Girls Scouts is the cookies.

Girls Scouts cookies are something of an institution in our house.  Every year, at least 5 boxes appear and disappear within a week of them appearing.  It is almost as if a little gremlin, called SweetTooth, comes and snatches up as many of them as possible.  With twelve varieties including Thin Mints, Samoas, and Lemonades you are almost guaranteed to find a favorite.

There are so many puppies in need of a loving home.  Every day, new puppies arrive on the doorsteps of the growing number of No-Kill shelters throughout the city. Even though the city just built a new $5 million dollar shelter for abandoned pets, there still isn’t enough room to house the overwhelming population.

So why not share the true meaning of Valentines Day with your significant other or, if you’re single like me, share it with yourself.  Go out today and save a life and give yourself the greatest companion there is to humans- A Dog.

Planning a trip through the Highlands of Scotland

There are many destinations within the UK that make great holiday destinations, but none are greater than the Scottish Highlands. Rolling hills, a rich cultural history and a diverse range of activities on offer make it not only one of the greatest destinations in the UK, but also the wider world.

pic 1

There’s no better way to see Scotland than by car. The roads are in fantastic condition and many of them are thrilling driving roots snaking through the untouched and awe-inspiring country side. The country will also be opened up to you on the road meaning you can see vast quantities of the country within a reasonably short space of time.

Plan your trip around a central theme

When looking to explore an entire country, it’s important to have a focus around which you plan the journey. There are plenty of ways to do this in Scotland though one of the most popular is taking a tour around the world-famous distilleries.

Working out while away from home can be tough.  When dealing with nagging husbands, clingy kids and a yappy dog,(all of which can’t make their own breakfast?) where does the relaxing yoga come in?
